Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Christian Bale has blasted former “Batman” George Clooney for “whining” about being hounded by paparazzi.
In a WSJ. Magazine cover story, Bale calls Clooney’s complaints “boring,” adding, “It doesn’t matter that he talks about it. It’s like, ‘Come on, guys, just shut up. Just get on with it and live your lives and stop whining about it.’ I prefer not to whine about it.”
Bale — who manages to keep his personal life with wife Sibi Blazic out of the spotlight — has a reputation for being hot-headed, but avoids confrontations with photographers.
“I was in Italy with my wife,” he recalls in the Q&A with Andrew Goldman.
“I would go to work; she would leave the hotel. There would be a man who stood outside . . . and say the most obscene things imaginable to my wife . . . I know what he’s after; he has a strategy there. Am I able to say I’m not gonna give him that satisfaction of angry Christian Bale coming after this man? But equally, he’s killing my humanity and my dignity as a husband if I do not, and he knows this. So you’ve got a choice.”

I agree with Christian that the media / paps can say the most disgusting things trying to get a rise out of the celebrity so that they can get the "money shot" of the celeb going off on them.
Celebs should fight back and when they go out wear those discrete body cams WITH microphones and then post the disgusting things the paps say to them.
Or just grit your teeth, smile and keep walking.

Whine? Wasn't His Nibs correcting several really bad inaccuracies? And supported by others in the profession?
You can score quite a few column inches if you use the name Clooney, can't you? (said a cynic)
Does Bale get the same degree of attention? And is the interview to do with a new film promotion?

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Is Bale referring to George's lashing of The Daily Mail last summer? Or something else. I'Ve never though George whines about the press. He always makes the point in interviews that he chose the life he leads and has been very lucky to have been so successful and having to deal with the press is a byproduct of that and he feels he can't complain.
I know Bale is a very talented actor but I've never been a fan of his. A few years ago hehad that tantrum on set and chewed out a stage hand for making too much noise while Bale was doing a scene. And I've heard in general he is a hothead.

Christian who? He must have a movie coming out, otherwise why poke the bear? I hope George ignores this idiot and doesn't give him the satisfaction of added publicity on George's coattails.

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Bale is playing Moses in 'Exodus.' Not an Egyptian or Middle East actor in the lead or primary supporting cast. Huge, huge budget and not a lot of positive early buzz. He has to get his name and the movie out there. Mentioning George Clooney is always good for clicks on pages.

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Never been a huge Bale fan and now he's dropped even further down on my list. From what I've seen, the casting of "Exodus" is getting panned for not being more ethnically "accurate" and diverse. If they were trying for accuracy - not a big Hollywood priority - Bale would never have gotten the part.
I don't see how dragging George into it would get anyone to see the movie. IMO a remake was a bad idea to begin with.

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Here's a thing about movie marketing. Somebody makes a comment that grabs media attention. That leads to readers clicking on the actor, and then on the movie. The internet interest (searches) for the movie are used by the marketers to say the movie has 'buzz,' and the buzz is then used to encourage people to go see this movie 'that everybody is talking about.'
When an actor has a movie coming out, mentioning another actor, especially a high-news-quotient one, and in particular one who isn't even in the movie being promoted, is done by design.

Way2Old- I get the whole marketing thing, but I still think they're stretching the connection. Is anyone even interested in seeing this movie? Does anyone even know that Christian Bale is in it? I don't think they even mentioned it in the article, so how does this help publicize anything other than Bale being an ass?

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
If Bale made these remarks by design to throw more light on himself well I've pretty much lost any respect I have had for him as an actor. He's good at what he does (acting) but this out of nowhere attack on George makes no sense. I love LizzyNY's remark "why poke the bear".
Tho I hope George just ignores this. Maybe he scratching his head wondering where out of left field these comment came from. I assume these two have met before. Seems like George's knows everyone in tinsel town.

Yeah, that's kind of the point. There is no connection. Nobody is talking about Bale or the movie, except for the fact that a bunch of white actors got paid millions to remake a movie that is as ethnically inaccurate as the one that was made decades ago. But now 'Christian Bale' will get searched, and so will 'Exodus.' And it's because Bale mentioned 'George Clooney.'

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Here is the full interview. Thanks to someone who commented on Celebitchy. It sounds different when you read the whole interview. And it is two separate answers to two separate questions that page six put together. It was the reporter who brought up George's name after Christian had already talked about the incident with his wife in Italy. I would say that the reporter baited Christian (starting with Batman) and he took the bait. I wonder why, Christian should have known better. He mentioned David O Russel. I wonder if he is a friend of Christian's. David sure isn't a friend of George's. Maybee that is why he took the bait. Maybee he already disliked George? I like W2O4D's explaination but there must be easier ways to get attention then poking George, who is known to be bad handling criticism and is vindictive
Personally I like Christian. I like a lot of British actors. He has such intensity when he acts and if Ridley Scott is directing, then I am going to watch it.

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
OK the DM reports it much harder..... I'm sure Christian Bale didn't mean it the way the DM titles it...but I guess the DM has an open bill with George
'Get on with it and stop whining': Christian Bale tells George Clooney to 'shut up' and stop complaining about fame
Christian Bale has told George Clooney he should 'stop whining' about the paparazzi.
The tempestuous actor says Clooney's complaints about the pitfalls of fame are 'boring' insisting people in the public eye should get on with their lives and ignore the extra attention.
'It doesn't matter that he talks about it,' the British star told the Wall Street Journal magazine. 'It's like, "Come on, guys, just shut up. Just get on with it and live your lives and stop whining about it." I prefer not to whine about it.'
The actor was responding to a comment by interviewer Andrew Goldman that he has 'heard Clooney railing about tabloids and privacy.'
Indeed, Clooney once told Parade magazine that he stays off social media to help keep his private life private.
'I don't tweet, I don't go on Facebook. I think there's too much information about all of us out there. I'm liking the idea of privacy more and more,' he said.
And in an interview with Esquire UK last year, he claimed he needed to maintain a sense of calm to deal with being a household name.
'Not that I'm comparing myself to Clark Gable or whoever but they couldn't survive in this environment,' he said. 'They’d punch the s*** out of some people. It requires a kind of Zen quality.
'There’s a funny thing about fame,' he added. 'The truth is you run as fast as you can towards it because it’s everything you want. Not just the fame but what it represents, meaning work, meaning opportunity.
'And then you get there and it’s shocking how immediately you become enveloped in this world that is incredibly restricting.'
Bale - who has a nine-year-old daughter and three-month-old son with wife Sibi Blazic also discussed the paparazzi in the interview given to promote his new film Exodus in which he plays Moses.
While the 40-year-old is renowned for his hot temper, he maintains he tries to stay away from confrontations with photographers, although finds it difficult when provoked.
'I was in Italy with my wife. I would go to work; she would leave the hotel ' he recalled to the magazine. 'There would be a man who stood outside... and say the most obscene things imaginable to my wife.
'I know what he's after; he has a strategy there. Am I able to say I'm not gonna give him that satisfaction of angry Christian Bale coming after this man?
'But equally, he's killing my humanity and my dignity as a husband if I do not, and he knows this. So you've got a choice. 'I don’t really give a s*** what he says about me,
However, the star admitted he actually did 'go after' the man in question.
'One day I walk out and I see him,' he remembered. 'I go after him, and he gets all these shots of me coming after him. Bingo, he’s hit gold. He gets exactly what he wants, smiles and walks off. I feel like an ass because I've given him what he wanted.
'But in my mind, I had no other choice. How could I sit back and accept somebody talking that way to my wife? I couldn't. I just couldn't do it.'
Bale and his wife welcomed a son in August and they are also parents to a nine-year-old daughter.
But the star, who first found fame, aged 13 when he starred as Jamie Graham in Steven Spielberg coming of age war film Empire Of The Sun, says he does not wish for the same fate for his own children when asked if he was 'damaged' by this early fame.
'Everyone’s a bit damaged, aren't they, by something?' he mused. 'You’re not really an adult until you've been damaged by something. Would I ever let my own children go through that? No way in hell, because I would say they’re a victim. You want your childhood.'

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
Silje, George said a couple of years ago he saw O'Russell at one of the awards shows and went up to him and they made amends over the big falling out they had during Three Kings. Think Bale's remarks were really out of line and uncalled for. And stupid. He certainly sounds like he has a problem with G. And again I have no clue what specifically he is referring to when he says George is whining. George makes lots of comments about the press and the role they play in a celebrity's life and how his own private life has been compromised by the media. It comes up in many interviews but he always seems reconciled to it. Maybe Bale was just having a bad day and George got the brunt of it.

Re: Christian Bale tells George Clooney to ‘stop whining’
The interview does read differently than the reports. But Bale sure took the bait, didn't he? Amateur move from a seasoned pro, IMO. He had an opportunity say in his answer that he was not singling out Clooney. In fact, he should have specified that Clooney is one of the guys who handles it and doesn't whine. But he didn't, which makes me skeptical that his quote is far out of context.
Could be wrong. Probably am. It happens a lot.

BTW, I don't see Bale as a great actor. He was good in The Fighter. He almost sucked in American Hustle; but then, I thought that whole movie was poorly done except for the women's performances.

Doesn't matter, Way2, the message was the right one. Exactly what I thought when I wrote 'said a cynic' in my post.
Pays to mention the name 'Clooney'. It seems to have worked and got the coverage he wanted, unfortunately.
But it may have been halved by the Downton Abbey coverage and some reporters' comments like Lainey

Christian Bale "Meant No Disrespect" to George Clooney With Jab About Handling Paparazzi: Watch Him Explain!

eonline has his explanation
Christian Bale "Meant No Disrespect" to George Clooney With Jab About Handling Paparazzi: Watch Him Explain!
If Christian Bale never said anything untoward, then we wouldn't have the pleasure of hearing him so charmingly explain himself!
At last night's premiere of Exodus: Gods and Kings at the Brooklyn Museum, the star explained to E! News on the red carpet that he certainly meant no disrespect to George Clooney when he advised his fellow actor—while talking about him during an interview with WSJ Magazine—to "stop whining" about the ever-present paparazzi.
Apparently even Bale was left wondering what Bale was thinking.
"I was scratching my head when I heard that," the bearded thesp admitted, referring to the headlines he unwittingly made.
"I said, ‘When on earth would I had said that?'" Bale, who along with wife Sibi Blazic was wearing Dolce & Gabbana for the occasion, recalled.
"I've got immense respect for him," he insisted, "and I can't even begin to imagine the invasion of his privacy. Our lives don't even begin to compare. He's a true movie star. I'm just somebody who was lucky to get a job."
And in case you thought that Bale—who like Clooney has won an Oscar and played Batman—couldn't get any more humble, he even sympathized with the magazine for perhaps taking the quotes out of context.
"So, yeah, it was possibly just a well-intentioned edit," he continued. "But certainly, I never meant any disrespect whatsoever."
And we believe him! Clooney, also a classy type, never issued any comment in response to Bale's perceived jab.

I like the comparisons he makes between himself and George - and the realization that they're not of the same stature professionally. I'm guessing he got an earful from somebody (if not from a lot of people) that calling George out on this issue was a bad move. Considering what George puts up with, he hardly complains and everyone knows it.

Empire of the Sun was 30 years ago. Great actors aren't "amazing" when they're kids, and hit-or-miss when they're seasoned pros as adults.
I'm not saying he hasn't done fine work. Just that it's not exemplary all the time, and lots of actors do much better more consistently. I'm not a Bale fan. But he has tons of fans, so my opinion amounts to nothing.

I have a question for Way2Old4Dis : do you ever say anything nice about anybody?????
Wellllll... let's see. There's my daughter and granddaughter, who are both beautiful, and smart, and talented. And, ummm... oh, I have an 80-year-old neighbor who walks a mile and a half every day. And Salma Hayak, who's gorgeous. Other than that, nah. I'm just a mean sourpuss about everybody else.
Because yes, child actors can be amazing actors.
Didn't, and don't, dispute this point. There are some amazing child actors. But they shouldn't have to point to their childhood roles as their peak performances.
You must be narrow-minded. Just sayin'
Must be. You couldn't wedge a pencil in my mind. And thank you. Somebody had to say it.
