George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's wedding weekend had its share of A-list guests.
From John Krasinski and Cindy Crawford to Bono and Anna Wintour, several recognizable faces made the trip to Venice, Italy to witness the couple say "I Do."
But despite a star-studded affair, two of Clooney's closest friends were nowhere to be found. Where in the world were Brad Pitt and Ben Affleck?
Turns out they had to work!
According to a source, Pitt and wife, Angelina Jolie, were participating in international movie shoots that required long hours in order to keep production costs down. As a result, missing three days for the festivities wasn't possible.

"Both of them have worked on movies where this sort of issue has come up and so has George so of course he'll completely understand and not feel snubbed by them or anything like that," a source told E! News. "This movie is such a great project for Brad and Angie and they have to stay focused and in the zone."
In comparison, Affleck was hard at work in New York City promoting the release of his new movie, Gone Girl. While walking the red carpet at the film's premiere, the actor couldn't help but share his well wishes for the couple.
"You know, some of us have to work," Affleck joked to E! News. "But yes, I congratulate him. It's very exciting."
To nobody's surprise, Clooney's close friends are head over heels in love with Alamuddin. In addition to being impressed with her career as a human rights lawyer, friends also believe Clooney has finally met the love of his life.

"Brad and Angie are so excited for George and Amal," a source told E! News. "They are getting a staffer to send [them] a case of their own Chateau Miraval wine so they can toast the wedding once they get home."
The source added, "Brad knows that George and Amal will be talking about the wedding and remembering it all excitedly non-stop for weeks and weeks—just like they have been doing as well."
Love is certainly in the Hollywood air! Congrats once again to the happy couple!

"I call BS on this story. It was a weekend and even movie shoots can fit in a couple of days off, especially when Pitt and Jolie are the producers. Either Clooney didn't want the brand trying to steal the limelight or he didn't want to have to choose between Pitt and Aniston or have their drama overshadow the festivities. Clooney has known Aniston longer than Pitt and actually socializes with her so the best gift any of them could give Clooney was to stay away."
I think this comment is absolutely right...and that's just what happened. I just feel like Goerge should've invited Jen no matter what.
Maybe if Ben wasn't busy, he and his wife would like to come and join Matt.

I'm not sure Ben was invited, don't think they are that close. Maybe he was joking, meaning that the majorHollywood  actor are in Venice, partying and having fun, and the others have to work.

Like he wanted to say "somebody must work, after all"

I do agree, of they really wanted to get away, they could have. they do not work every weekend and it could have waited. well, they can celebrate out here in hlwd, but george get married only once in venice and you cannot look back. matt made the trip, no excues. just my opinion. love you george, bg

Yeah Matt and Emily&John all got their kids to look after but they made the trip. They must know how important this is for George and just want to be there to witness the big day and celebrate with him.

I don't know if the story is true or not, George and Pitt have said that are not that close, but I do know about the film. "By the Sea" is an indie film that they both produced, Angelina wrote and is directing and they both acting on it, they're the main characters.

The film has a very tight schedule and budget.

Pitt has to take a few days or 1 week  in 2 weeks time to do promotion for Fury. He'll be in NY October 14 and after in Washington for the premier. He will also be in London that same week for the London premier.

I doubt that they could take any more days without messing the schedule and adding to the budget.

Re Jennifer George socialises with Jen and I believe she was at Cabo with George and Amal over New Year's. He doesn't socialise with Brad anymore - Angelina put a stop to that. So in theory he should have invited Jen NOT Brad.

However George NEEDS Brad more than Jennifer professionally. He couldn't invite all of them given how Angelina lured Brad away from Jen and the resulting scandal. So he invited none of them. I bet he called them all up and said I want to invite all of you, I like you all but that would be a huge distraction from Amal given everything that's happened between you guys.

Jennifer is more popular in Hollywood than Brad, But Brad still has a lot of power and clout. So George didn't invite Jen. That's what I think.

Brad is in Malta only 1 hour's flight away so there was no reason why he couldn't have been there for the wedding day.

Whoever wanted to be there, and could be there, and was invited, was there. That's it. Speculating about people you don't know and for whom you are not privy to any personal information is just dumb, and makes it much too obvious how much you have to find some shit to stir in every corner.

And that Awards thing happened before their first public appearance. When George was doing the October red carpets for Gravity, he was clearly pretending to be single. not quite sure how their relationship went last year at VIFF by the end of August.

Ask globalchick, she knows the exact dates and times of all their meetings.  

He hadn't met her yet! They met a a high level meeting in Rome about the possibilities of SSP and Digital Globe monitoring Assad's behaviour in Syria...have a feeling it might have been to do with the movement of chemicals in the area at the time..........might be wrong

PAN, where did you read that G&A met in Rome at a meeting? I've never heard that. The media keeps saying that they met at a charity event, obviously in Italy.

And Brad and Ben still missed the wedding despite all the musing about how George and Amal met. Hmm.

round about this time last year wouldn't you? I just googled a few key words and the name Kerry came up a lot, but it was all about the time that the US and others were making sure all the chemical warfare technology Syria had was being shipped out. Possibly independent monitoring was considered

Must have been very important cos of Tomorrowland filming. But it honestly wouldn't surprise me, SSP has so much potential and clearly something similar took place

Maybe another reason why Brad and Angelina didn't show was that they just got married? It would be the first appearance of some sorts of them as married couple. The photographers would probably go after them than the actual couple . That is ruining somebody's wedding day, they wanted their wedding to be about them not Brad and Angelina. In my opinion I don't see the big appeal of Brad and Angelina, but some people are nuts about those two

There are a slew of famous people George knows who probably didn't get invited. Why do people think that Brad and Angie were even invited? I'm not surprised they weren't there. George was probably not invited to their wedding. What about Don Cheadle? He and George are close too and they work together on Not On Our Watch non profit. As is Jerry Weintraub. Most of George's close, close friends aren't even in show biz. I'm sure he didn't want a celeb fest either.

Renee was missing, too.

Again, we don't know who may have been invited and just couldn't go. Don Cheadle is finally filming the Miles Davis movie, a passion project that he's been trying to get made for years. Weintraub is almost 80 years old, I think, and may not travel that much.

We just can't know.

I completely agree. For example, Julia Roberts was not one of the participants, even tho she always Implies That She and George are very close.
