She may have dressed countless celebrities including Christina Hendricks and Kim Kardashian, but Australian designer Johanna Johnson was nevertheless humbled when her expertise was recently called upon for another A-list event.

The Sydney-based designer is behind the stunning gown worn by Amal Alamuddin's best friend when she attended the barrister's Venice wedding to George Clooney at the weekend.

Johnson was invited by fashion bible Vogue to create the black, backless dress for human rights and Australian media lawyer Jennifer Robinson and says she was 'honoured' by the request.

Expressing her gratitude and pleasure at having been involved in the nuptials of the Hollywood heavyweights, the couture designer shared a photo of Robinson in her design on Sunday.





'It has been my great honour to have been requested by Vogue to work on the wedding of Mr George Clooney and his bride, Ms Amal Alamuddin, to dress Ms Jennifer Robinson, best friend and confidante of the Bride,' she wrote alongside the image uploaded to Instagram.

'I thank both Ms Robinson, Amal Alamuddin, the team at Vogue for their support, my very talented team, and all those who have privately and confidentially assisted me with this wonderful project. 

'We wish Mr and Mrs Clooney every joy as they commence married life together.'

Star-studded wedding: Clooney and his British-Lebanese love tied the knot in a private ceremony at the Aman hotel on Saturday

The breath-taking design featured a conservative neckline and delicate capped sleeves that were both embellished with black beading.

It is strikingly similar to the Johanna Johnson gown worn by Australian television personality Sarah Harris earlier this year when she wed her beau Tom Ward.

Harris' dress also featured a plunging back and capped sleeves but was finished in ivory lace and included a long train. 

Clooney and his British-Lebanese love tied the knot in a private ceremony at the Aman hotel in Venice on Saturday.

Robinson, 33, was photographed being ferried across one of the floating city's many canals alongside veteran actor Bill Murray and the mother of the bride Baria Alamuddin.

She complimented the cut of the dress by pulling her hair up into a low chignon and wore simple black studded earrings that matched the beading across her bust.

It is not known as yet what role the lawyer, who defended Australian journalist Julian Assange alongside Alamuddin, played in the wedding.

Remember my post here about my dream of seeing Amal and George at their wedding? The dress is very very similar to the photo of the blond girl above. I think the sleeves were a little different but everything else was the same.

We will have to wait for the actual photos to see if my dream was a vision !
