Stacy Keibler has had one of the healthiest pregnancies in Hollywood.
She said she eats only organic and 'clean' food, exercises and stretches daily, and focuses on maintaining a happy and positive attitude.
And according to UsWeekly, the 34-year-old June/July cover girl of Fit Pregnancy magazine will also be consuming her own placenta following the birth of her daughter in August.

According to NBC, the practice began as an ancient Chinese medicine and is quickly picking up popularity in the 21st century.
A source recently revealed to UsWeekly Stacy's plans to consume hers through placenta encapsulation, in which the placenta is first dehydrated in a machine for at least 16 hours and then blended into a powder form and poured into capsules.
NBC says 'Advocates for the pills contend that retrieving those nutrients and hormones speeds up recovery time, helps with iron levels and milk supply, and can fight against postpartum depression.'
As it turns out, Keibler isn't the only one in Hollywood with an interest in placentophagy.
Man Men actress January Jones also ingested her placenta after giving birth to her almost three-year-old son, Xander.
The 36-year-old told Glamour magazine that she 'highly recommends' it.
She originally felt 'very hesitant about it' but then realized 'it is very civilized' and 'not gross or witchcrafty'.
Alternatively, Catherine Collins, principal dietician at St. George's hospital in London, has come out and said, 'Nutritionally, there's nothing to be gained from eating your placenta.'

However, eating a placenta...isn't that something what happens normally in Scientology? I remember that same rumor when Tom Cruise and his wife were expecting a child. And the media referred it back to the Scientology sect.

Oh Good God Im going to vomit - I watched my dogs eat their puppies placenta too, but seriously what do you do with your own, fry it, sautee or chop it up and put in a stew - Ive just lost my own appetite - you couldn't pay me enough

as long as the baby is healthy, that is all that matters... I don't know who said that first, but that is what mattered to me.
I did everything "right" but all of my pregnanies were different. And the best laid plans were out the door the second each child was born.

Animals have an inborn instinct to dispose of the by-products of birth in the wild in order to protect their babies from predators.

Eating placenta has to do with getting the fetus's stem cells back into the mother's body. It's a health thing.
I don't know if anyone has heard of this, but if a pregnant woman in someway gets organ damage, the fetus will actually send out stem cells to the mother to help her heal the organ. The fetus is then actively working to make sure the mother stays healthy enough for the fetus to be born.
Me, I take a supplement that actually reactivates dormant stem cells in the body and then your own body's stem cells go out and heal your body.
Some fascinating stuff out there in the health field. You just have to wade through the medical community bullshit as they try to block anything that would actually PREVENT a disease before it happens.
Doctors treat AFTER you're sick. Me, I prefer not to get sick in the first place.

Okay, first, I need to know more about this stem cell supplement thing, so expect a PM from me.
Second, I'm going to harken back (how old am I, anyway?) to my previous professional life and throw in a comment about the placenta eating.
Cord blood preservation has been a godsend to stem cell research. No denying that. The umbilical cord contains the two veins and single artery that provide the delivery of nutrients and oxygen to the baby from the mother, and carries waste and toxins from the baby to the mother for elimination. The placenta is one end of the delivery system (the amniotic sac being the other, with the cord in between), and it also produces three major hormones to support the pregnancy. It's a great set-up. But the two (mom's and baby's) blood supplies don't mix in the placenta. That's why stem cell scientists go for the cord blood.
So, logically, in order to get stem cell healing post-pregnancy, the mom should eat the umbilical cord, not the placenta. Or, I guess she could eat the baby.
Mind you, I've done no research on this. But I know the anatomy and physiology.
Anyway, LD, about those stem cell stimulation supplements...

I heard about people buring placenta in their backyard but I didn't know that people ate it. Yuck!
I watched Practical Magic the other night with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman. I think the aunts used placenta to stay young. Of course I imagined that used it as a face cream.

I saved part of the umbilical cord after each of my 3 were born, cost a fortune to have it stored etc but figure it was worth it if (god forbid) my children ever need to use it. What convinced me was a friend of mines 6 month old baby was diagnosed with a form of leukaemia so as well as the usual treatment they did something with the blood/stem cells from the umbilical cord and put it back into her son, its been 12 years since that day (and touch wood) he is still in remission. Sorry not really knowledgeable about medical jargon.
