Love in the fast lane! George Clooney takes fiancée Amal Alamuddin for a romantic ride on the back of his motorcycle after his mom confirms engagement news

George Clooney celebrated his engagement by taking fiancée Amal Alamuddin for a ride around Los Angeles on the back of his motorcycle on Sunday.

It seems that while the Lebanese-born British barrister has tamed the her man's notorious bachelor lifestyle, she's yet to tame his wild ways when it comes to his preferred choice of transportation.

Though far from disapproving of the dangerous mode of transport, the 36-year-old willingly hopped aboard the chopper for a cosy ride with her husband-to-be, clinging on to him tightly around the waist as they whizzed through the streets on the sunny spring day.

Easy riders: George Clooney took new fiancée Amal Alamuddin for an exhilarating ride around Los Angeles on the back of his motorcycle on Sunday, as the couple celebrated their recent engagement

The brunette was even dressed appropriately for the outing in dark blue jeans, black motorcycle boots, a green-brown leather jacket and black helmet with visor.

Two-time Oscar-winner George also looked the part in jeans, similar chunky black lace-up boots,
a black leather jacket and matching helmet, while both also donned black gloves.

The star, who turns 53 on May 6, was no doubt being extra careful with his new fiancée riding on
the back, after he famously got into a nasty accident back in 2007 while riding with then-girlfriend Sarah Larson.

Both were hospitalised when the actor's bike was hit by a car in New Jersey, with George suffering from a hairline fracture on his rib and road rash, while his passenger broke her foot and had lacerations to her face.

While the couple of just seven months are yet to personally confirm the status of their relationship, the star's mother, Nina Clooney, has happily opened up about the engagement to the MailOnline.

'You can say I'm extremely happy, Amal's a lovely girl,' she said from her home in Augusta, Kentucky on Monday. 'I like her very much.

'We weren’t at all surprised when they told us they were engaged, and we couldn’t be happier for them,' she added of her and husband Nick's reaction to the news.

The lawyer's firm also sent their wellwishes to the couple as they publicly congratulated them on their engagement.

A statement released to Reuters read: 'The barristers and staff of Doughty Street Chambers offer their best wishes and congratulations to Ms. Amal Alamuddin, a member of Chambers, and Mr. George Clooney on their engagement to be married.'

The rumour mill went into overdrive after Amal was reportedly spotted wearing a conspicuous ring
on THAT finger during a dinner date with Edward Norton, Cindy Crawford and Rande Gerber at Nobu in Malibu last Thursday, which was first reported by Entertainment Tonight.

The blushing bride-to-be is said to have excitedly shown off her stunning bauble to the supermodel as the pair shared their surprise news with their pals.

Another witness also reported seeing the ring as the couple dined at Craig's in West Hollywood the previous evening.

On Sunday, People reported a source 'with knowledge of the situation' as saying the pair are indeed engaged and that the proposal happened 'not that long ago'.

'George and Amal are trying to keep things very low-key but they also aren't really trying to hide this, it doesn't seem,' the insider said. 'I think it's like they want the people they love to know that this is real, that they plan on being together forever.'

Meanwhile, the actor's mom couldn't be happier at the pairing, following the revolving door of waitresses, models and aspiring actresses he's dated over the years.

'On an intellectual level, they are equals,' Nina tells the MailOnline. 'That is very important to him. Amal's world couldn’t be more different from the Hollywood lifestyle.'

Asked if Amal, whom George first introduced to his family 'about a year ago' before taking their relationship public last October, is anything like their son's previous girlfriends, Mrs Clooney exclaims: 'Heavens, no! She's a lawyer, she is brilliant, she is a very bright woman and at the very top of her career.'

Indeed, the well-respected human rights lawyer, who is currently representing Wikileaks founder Julian Assange, appears to be the perfect match for her betrothed, who is also known for his tireless activism work.

'They also share a sense of fun, a sense of humour and they are both very caring people,' Nina adds.

Hubby and I had the same set up so we could chit/chat on long rides, he preferred that to me thumping him on the back trying to gesticulate that Id had quite enough and wanted off the damn bike already!. We could also talk to other friends on their motorcycles.

These are normal helmets with microphone I find nothing fantastic I found obscene and dangerous helmet that was used before, I am twenty years that do not ride in bike but I swear to you that twenty years ago I used a helmet with a microphone!

Do you know what I always wonder with these sort of photos? Where are the rest of them?

Or was it really that George whizzed past a handily stationed paparazzo who was on a skateboard and therefore couldn't follow him. Because at some point in their journey they had to have got on/got off the bike but there aren't any other photos other than these three it seems.

I think it was one of those staged type photos, the news is out about the engagement, maybe lets give them a taste of us together on a bike, so they know to believe it!! Otherwise you are right Katiedot, did they happen to just drive by a conveniently located pap, or were the paps told we will be riding past this area at 11.00am lol

Let me try to be a little clearer - I called her a genius in comparison to the other women George has dated because she was smart enough to dress appropriately for the activity in which she was engaged. The last few ladies have always prioritized fashion over safety, and have ridden that bike wearing little more than a sundress and flip flops. I would call them dum-dums to their faces for not protecting themselves on something as dangerous as a motorcycle just so they can show off their legs to the cameras.

And apparently from other poster's information, that particular type of helmet has been around for a while. I was simply pointing out that had George wanted to converse with any of his other girlfriends while riding the bike, he could have. It wasn't until Amal that he actively looked for a way to make that possible. There is very little there that isn't simply a statement of fact.

You'll note that I made absolutely no speculation as to George's motivation for marrying Amal. That only happened in your head. I'm sorry you're insulted, but I learned long ago that there are many people in this world who live to be indignant, and there's nothing I can do to change that.

I have never seen any of the girlfriends dressed in flip flops and sun dresses, not in L.A anyway. they are dressed in helmets jeans and boots. In Italy when they are on scooters or those three wheeled bikes they dress like that.
