I'm glad Rande finally spoke up.The info he added about the dinner show that Wynn was looking for a fight, and wasn't going to be happy until he got one. - I bet it took days for Wynn to come up with that crack about George being a nasty drunk, and he wasn't going to let it go to waste. It's been all over the media. Maybe now someone will call Wynn out on why he lied. He's such a jerk!

Because it is all over the media...I mean really all over....do you think the media will ask Obama about this incident as his name is involved? Or not....

Maybe they will ask him something like how he feels to be called an asswhole or how he feels that George stood up for him....

Not sure how many changes the media gets to ask those question to the President while he maybe does a press conference for other things....Maybe this would not come up...but it makes me think.....

But I guess this would make the incident even bigger if Obama would comment  Razz

Nicky - I don't think the media will get a chance to ask the President anything about this. He's in Japan, and by the time he gets back this will probably have blown over. Besides, I don't think any reporter has the nerve to ask him "How does it feel to be called an asshole?" to his face - although he's probably been called a lot worse by Republicans in private. - Anyway, what Steve Wynn thinks of him really doesn't matter to anyone with a brain.

What happens in Vegas . . . doesn’t stay in Vegas when you are George Clooney and get in an argument with a hotel tycoon over President Obama. Strangely, both the Oscar-winning actor and the hotel tycoon, Steve Wynn, have commented to the Las Vegas Review-Journal about an incident that took place two weeks ago at Botero restaurant, located inside Wynn’s Encore hotel—even though it does not seem that the exchange had been reported in past few weeks.

Clooney, who was in town to promote his Casamigos tequila during the Wine & Spirits Wholesalers of America convention, issued a statement via his publicist, claiming that he did indeed take issue with Wynn when the hotelier dissed President Obama, his longtime friend. Clooney’s recollection of the events:

“There were 9 people at that table. . .So you can ask them. . .Steve likes to go on rants. . .HE called the president an asshole. . . that is a fact. . .I said the President was my longtime friend and then he said ‘your friend is an asshole.’ . . .At that point I told Steve that HE was an asshole and I wasn’t going to sit at his table while he was being such a jackass.
And I walked out. There were obviously quite a few more adjectives and adverbs used by both of us. Those are all the facts. It had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with character.”

Wynn, meanwhile, offered a different account of the events when speaking to the paper, suggesting that it was a remark about former Soviet Union president Mikhail Gorbachev that riled Clooney.

Wynn remembers that after a C.A.A. agent in their company made a Gorbachev joke, Clooney “stood up and threw a hissy fit” at the agent. “Then he sat down and started talking about the Affordable Care Act, and that’s when I spoke up,” said Wynn, whom the paper notes is a frequent critic of Obamacare. “He didn’t like that either. I think my discussion about the Affordable Care Act was the straw that broke the camel’s back.”

Wynn was critical of Clooney, a longtime supporter of Obama who has shared so many dinner and fund-raiser dates with the president over the years that we assembled a timeline of their bromance two years ago. “When [Clooney’s] drinking, he considers himself a close personal buddy of the president . . . He got up and said, ‘I don’t have to listen to this (expletive) stuff.’ The only person who got excited at the table was George, and he ran off to another bar.”

“Clooney’s fun to be with when he’s sober,” Wynn said, before issuing one final burn. “If you have a chance to drink with him, you want to get there early, and don’t stay late.”

Ouch, bro. We’ve all seen Ocean’s Eleven and can’t imagine a world in which Danny Ocean overreacts to a Gorbachev joke before storming off to the bar. (Heisting a casino, sure, but not this.) Knowing Clooney’s history of revenge pranks, though, we are guessing that Wynn will not have the last metaphorical word on this Vegas throw down for long.

One must wonder how this made news in the first place? Business dinner went public.

To my experience people who are talking about how much other people drink, counting the drinks, have a drinking problem themselves. They pay attention to such a thing.

Odd promotion if someone is using it as one for anything. Well the names are out, two big ones and then this Wynn.

LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Las Vegas celebrity feuds don’t get much bigger than this.

When billionaire hotel developer Steve Wynn and Hollywood’s leading man, George Clooney, sat down for dinner with friends two weeks ago, no one expected it would end with the two heavyweights trading verbal shots over President Barack Obama.

In an interview this week with the Review-Journal, Wynn hit hard, suggesting Clooney’s problem was downing too many tequila shots.

Clooney, via an email to the R-J, called Wynn a “jackass” — and worse — for slamming the president, and he added an f-bomb while exiting Botero restaurant at Wynn’s Encore.

According to Clooney, Wynn called the president an a-hole. Clooney said he responded by calling Wynn an a-hole, among other things.

The New York Daily News’ lead on the altercation: “Good night, and Good Riddance,” playing off legendary newsman Edward R. Murrow’s sign off. Clooney directed the film “Good night, and Good Luck.”

There was no winner in this one. The only surprise is that sparks didn’t fly sooner. Clooney is a steadfast supporter of Obama. Wynn has frequently bashed Obamacare.

Wynn told me he pointed out to Clooney “how insurance has skyrocketed” because of Obamacare and its “disastrous impact.”

“I was explaining how upset the union is with the heath care act, and George didn’t like hearing it,” Wynn said.

Wynn’s longtime friend and former business partner Larry Ruvo, who distributes the tequila Clooney was pitching, had a ringside seat, but “I guess I left 30 minutes before the fireworks started,” Ruvo said.

“The whole time I was there, it was a social, fun evening,” Ruvo said. “It was 2½ to three hours of jokes and fun.”

The next day he ran into Rande Gerber, Clooney’s partner in Casamigos tequila, and Gerber told Ruvo, “You left at the right time.”

Gerber took issue with Wynn’s claim that Clooney was intoxicated, telling TMZ.com, “We weren’t drunk.”

Wynn insisted in my Monday interview with him that Clooney had 16 tequila shots before the fiery outburst.

“No shots were had,” Gerber told TMZ.com.

While Gerber was defending Clooney, telling TMZ, “This wasn’t about politics. It was about George standing up for a friend,” Ruvo made it clear where he stood.

“My loyalty is with Steve,” Ruvo said. “He’s my brother, first and foremost. He’s a consummate professional.”

Where does it rank among Vegas’ most famous feuds?

I’d put it right below Frank Sinatra’s epic falling-out with the Sands that came to a head on Sept. 11, 1967. Irate that Sands’ owner Howard Hughes had cut off his credit, Sinatra confronted casino manager Carl Cohen and went ballistic. Cohen punched him, knocking out two front teeth, or caps, according to some reports. Sinatra severed his ties with the Sands and moved to Caesars Palace.

Other infamous clashes:

■ Mobster Frank “Lefty” Rosenthal’s legal battle with Harry Reid, head of the Nevada Gaming Commission. When Reid and fellow commissioners unanimously rejected Rosenthal’s bid for a gaming license in 1978, Rosenthal, represented by Oscar Goodman, made a scene at the hearing by hurling taunts at Reid.

■ Wayne Newton vs. Johnny Carson. When Carson’s bid to purchase the Aladdin fell through in the early 1980s, Newton bought it with partners. Carson began jabbing at Newton with on-air suggestions that he was gay. Newton said he showed up in Carson’s dressing room one night and said, “These jokes about me will stop, and they will stop now, or I will kick your ass.”

Sorry to say not even close.  Wynn and his holdings are in the billions while the GerberGroup are in the hundreds of millions. I have to be honest I always thought the Terry Benedict character in Oceans was based a bit off of Wynn- without the Andy Garcia humor.

Wynn's power and money may be a bit of why George may have been trying to do business with him.  More power to George that he may have realized it just isn't worth it to have to deal with that type of asshole.  Since George does work in Hollywood, I know he has dealt with assholes before, and you have to sometimes just to get things done, but some are so not worth it and he may have realized that with Wynn.    Could be why Wynn is putting his drunken version story out there.

Doesn't this remind you of a more verbally violent version of what Nick Clooney did when he and the family would eat out and someone would refer to "those people." I am proud of George for standing up for his friend!

I would also bet money that Wynn used the N word and the verbal fireworks were worse than what is being said by either!

If GC had 16 Tequila shots I don't think he'd be able to say a$$hole much less storm out of anywhere.

I do find it interesting that GC just explains what happened but Wynn makes it personal by taking jabs at GC. Maybe that's the 'character' GC was referring to - or lack there of.

George is loyal to his friends. Forget the fact that Obama is President. If Steve was bashing George's friend "Barry" he would have done the same thing. It appears George asked him to stop by stating that "Barry" was his friend. I once walked out on a dinner when someone wouldn't drop a topic I told him three times I wanted no part of.

I agree with the above comment that after 16 shots of tequila George wouldn't be doing any talking much less walking out of a room.

Chayo says adios to Clooney’s tequila

By Norm Clarke
Las Vegas Review-Journal

A Las Vegas restaurant is dropping a George Clooney-backed tequila brand and siding with casino mogul Steve Wynn in the aftermath of a booze-fueled shouting match about Obamacare.
Chayo Mexican Kitchen &Tequila Bar, newly opened at The Linq, will pull Casamigos tequila, according to the Florida-based ownership group.
“Steve Wynn has done a lot of good and provided tens of thousands of jobs for the city of Las Vegas, unlike the millions of jobs the Affordable Care Act will destroy,” said Tom Kelly, one of the owners of Chayo and its sister restaurant, Tequila Ranch in Hollywood, Fla. “We agree with Steve Wynn’s take on the Affordable Care Act and would like to show our support for him and the many other business owners it is hurting across the country.
“We don’t want to be associated with that brand due to Mr. Clooney’s disrespect for Mr. Wynn at his own property.”
A business dinner this month at Wynn’s Botero restaurant at Encore ended with Clooney exploding after jawing with Wynn over Obamacare.
In a telephone interview, Wynn said Clooney got intoxicated and stormed out when he took issue with Wynn’s comments.
Clooney, responding to a request for comment, sent a statement through his publicist, saying he took issue when Wynn called President Barack Obama an A-hole and called Wynn the same.
The two-time Oscar winner said he called Wynn a “jackass” for slamming the president, with whom Clooney is friends.
Clooney and his partners were dining with Wynn to solidify the Casamigos relationship. Wynn started carrying the tequila in early 2013.
Sources I’ve known for years tell me it was not the first time Las Vegans have seen Clooney turn combative while partying.
One source, who said he was at Clooney’s table while the actor was dating cocktail server Sarah Larson during 2007-08, said he erupted one night at Nove Italiano at the Palms.
“He thought a woman at the table said, ‘I hate Obama’ and he went off. She actually said, ‘I hate drama,’ ” the source said.
Another source who was in the company of Clooney and his Casamigos business partner, Rande Gerber, said they each had at least 10 tequila shots and, a few hours later, Clooney’s mood turned sour.
Clooney was back in the headlines on Saturday when reports surfaced that he recently got engaged to humanitarian attorney Amal Alamuddin.
According to the New York Post’s Page Six column, Alamuddin, 36, was wearing an engagement ring Thursday at Nobu in Malibu, where she and Clooney were dining with Gerber and his wife, Cindy Crawford.
They have been dating for less than a year, according to reports.

This is one reason our economy is so fucked up! People using their money to influence politics, and making business decisions based on who supports their political interests. Steve Wynn is a jerk. Maybe people who don't agree with his politics should boycott his hotels. I wonder how he'd like that.

Steve Wynn: Clooney is ‘money coddled’

Casino mogul Steve Wynn has fired back at George Clooney after the Hollywood star reportedly called Wynn an “a—hole” and stormed off in a huff during a Las Vegas dinner.

Page Six previously reported that Clooney and Wynn got into an argument over politics at a glitzy Las Vegas dinner — during which Wynn was pushing liberal Clooney’s political buttons and ultimately called President Obama “an a—hole.” Clooney then called Wynn the same and stormed off.

Wynn has addressed the spat in an interview with Stephanie Ruhle on Bloomberg TV’s  “Market Makers, denying he ever insulted Obama and saying Hollywood celebrities “live in a very strange bubble of their own.”
“They’re money coddled, they’re highly privileged,” Wynn said of stars like Clooney. “We are talking about successful artists like George, Barbra Streisand … they live in a relatively small world, the people around them are very solicitous and caring of them.”

He added, “They have a worldview that is therefore ‘Everything should be given to everybody’ because everything has been given to them.”

Wynn also said that as a billionaire businessman, he has a broader perspective than Clooney. “You have to protect the enterprise in order to take care of the employees. So therefore, you can’t be wasteful, you can’t squander things or you jeopardize people,” Wynn said. “Running a business gives you a sense of compassion that is defined in different terms than someone who just thinks of themselves as generous.”

Clooney has previously commented of the alleged argument, “I said that the president was my longtime friend and then [Wynn] said ‘your friend is an a—hole’ … I told Steve that he was an a—hole and that I wasn’t going to sit at his table while he was being such a jackass. And I walked out.”

Hey Steve Asshole Wynn, don't be dissing my Barbra!

And about that deficit - could you talk to your cronies - you know old millionaire farts like you -- who are in the oil business and who get unbelievably huge government subsidies (despite record profits) to maybe give some of that back so that we can work on reducing that deficit you're so concerned about?

Think you could do that?

No?

Yea, that's what I thought.

George Clooney Unloads on Casino Owner Steve Wynn

The actor, who got into a heated argument with Steve Wynn in Las Vegas last month, has released a statement to PEOPLE responding to the casino mogul's latest comments to Bloomberg news this week.

The war of words dates back to April 23, when Wynn allegedly called President Obama an "a------" at a group dinner attended by Clooney. It was amped up Friday when Wynn, among other things, denied doing so and then ripped stars like Clooney as "molly coddled" and suggested Clooney had been drinking too much at the dinner.

Here's Clooney's detailed response:

"Steve Wynn and I have met three times, two times for dinner. That is the extent of our knowledge of one another, so I will refrain from trying to categorize him based on the little time we've spent together, but I will not let his version of the truth go unchallenged.

"He now says he didn't call the president an 'a------.' That is false. He bellowed 'I voted for the a------,' and then called him the same thing several more times as the dinner came to an abrupt end."

"Again there were eight people at the table, eight witnesses. I did in turn, call him the same body part, and walked out. Again he can make up whatever story he wants, but these are the facts. He said I drank 16 shots of tequila. I didn't drink one shot of tequila, not one. We were drinking but it was early and we still had two events to attend."

"He said I live in a bubble. More of a bubble than Las Vegas? Honestly? He says I'm 'molly coddled,' that I'm surrounded by people who coddle me. I would suggest that Mr. Wynn look to his left and right and find anyone in his sphere that says anything but 'yes' to him. Emphatically. I did not attend a private boys' school, I worked in tobacco fields and in stock rooms, and construction sites. I've been broke more of my life than I have been successful, and I understand the meaning of being an employee and how difficult it is to make ends meet.

"Steve is one of the richest men in the world and he should be congratulated for it, but he needs to take off his red sparkly dinner jacket and roll up his sleeves every once in a while and understand what most of the country is actually dealing with ... or at least start with the fact that you can't make up stories when eight people who are not on your payroll are sitting around you as witnesses."

RED. SPARKLY. DINNER. JACKET.

George basically sums up everything you need to know about Steve Wynn in four words. Damn, he's good.

While it is true what he says, it is annoying to me when GC brings up his poor roots....while he was poorish at one time he no longer is. I would have taken this rebuttal better if I hadn't heard how much he spent on the engagement ring....sorry he cannot understand what it is like anymore...this tit for tat over something like this is childish....

@Silly girl - The thing is that even though George is no longer "working class" he hasn't forgotten what it was like and that people who are are having a tough time. Wynn thinks that if he gives them minimum wage jobs, he's done enough. I'm glad George called him on his arrogance.

"Red sparkly dinner jacket"

Oh god, is it possible to love George any more for this?

Agreed, Sillygirl, this whole "I've been poor" schtick isn't that compelling. Yes, he has been poor but not for all that long in his life - he was the one who said in his 20s he was the 'highest paid actor nobody had heard of'. Having said that, his point is that he remembers what it's like to be poor and appreciates that his wealth is something he worked for, but didn't 'deserve' unlike the 1% who think that being rich makes them something special and above those who don't have money.

OMG and now it up with OBAMA. Joke about George at 10:45 minutes

"On the President's health: "Every year, the White House doctor checks the President's colon for polyps -- and George Clooney's head."

Joel McHale at the 2014 WHCD jokes about the George Clooney's recent fight with Steve Wynn

To be honest I don't get the joke and don't know the connections about the joke and the Wynn argument. Guess it is a language barrier. Can somebody explain?

OK I think "colon for polyps" refers to asswhole?? And what about George head?

Cancerous polyps can be found during a rectal examination. The President is checked for that during his exam. The "joke" about George refers back to his being friends with the President (as was brought out in the Wynn confrontation). When people make comments about people who may or may not influence other people, it's a common saying that "he's got his head up your ass", or an ass-kisser, or a brown-noser.
