The George Clooney and Steve Wynn argument
I thought we had a story about how he fought with Steve Wynn....here is another version of what happened:

Wynn, Clooney exchange barbs over heated dinner conversation
By NORM CLARKE
LAS VEGAS REVIEW-JOURNAL
Hotel-casino developer Steve Wynn and actor George Clooney offered vastly different accounts Tuesday of a dinner that ended in verbal fireworks.
Wynn said Clooney “got drunk” from downing tequila shots and stormed off after delivering an F-bomb.
The two-time Oscar winner issued the following statement in an email sent through his publicist: “There were nine people at that table ... so you can ask them. ... Steve likes to go on rants.
“He called the president an asshole ... that is a fact ... I said the President was my longtime friend and then he said ‘your friend is an asshole.’ ... At that point I told Steve that HE was an asshole and I wasn’t going to sit at his table while he was being such a jackass.
“And I walked out. There were obviously quite a few more adjectives and adverbs used by both of us. Those are all the facts. It had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with character.”
The incident occurred two weeks ago at Botero restaurant, inside Wynn’s Encore hotel.
Clooney was in Las Vegas to promote his Casamigos tequila during the Wine &Spirits Wholesalers of America convention.
Clooney and his Casamigos business partners Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman had joined Wynn and a group that included Wynn’s wife, Andrea Hissom, Larry Ruvo, founder of Southern Wine &Spirits, and two executives with celebrity powerhouse Creative Artists Agency.
Dinner had ended, and “the place was empty,” Wynn said.
Clooney took exception, Wynn said, when one of the CAA execs told a joke about former Soviet Union President Mikhail Gorbachev.
“He stood up and threw a hissy fit” at the CAA guy, Wynn said in a telephone interview, his first comments on the dust-up.
“Then he sat down and started talking about the Affordable Care Act, and that’s when I spoke up,” said Wynn, a frequent critic of Obamacare. “He didn’t like that either. I think my discussion about the Affordable Care Act was the straw that broke the camel’s back.
“When he’s drinking, he considers himself a close personal buddy of the president.
“He got up and said, ‘I don’t have to listen to this (expletive) stuff. The only person who got excited at the table was George, and he ran off to another bar.”
Clooney’s partners were “mortified,” Wynn said.
“Clooney’s fun to be with when he’s sober,” Wynn added. “If you have a chance to drink with him, you want to get there early, and don’t stay late.
“Everybody who’s in my business, the casino business, knows to take actors with a grain of salt.”

Wow! That's one of the very few attributable criticisms I've ever read of George. Whatever really happened, Wynn certainly got his dander up!

Re: The George Clooney and Steve Wynn argument
I think that George and President Obama have been friends for a few years from when he was a Senator.
In my opinion George did the right thing by not staying around someone who was calling the President an asshole.
Loyalty to one's friends, causes or beliefs is a commendable thing in anyone and something that George learned from his father Nick at a very early age.
"Well done George" I say.

Re: The George Clooney and Steve Wynn argument
I've heard Wynn speak. He's a fundamentalist conservative and not-so-closeted racist. I'm surprised George has anything to do with him. I think it was the lowest of moves to twist George's well-known enjoyment of alcohol into an insinuation that George is a mean drunk and everyone knows it. I would have called him worse than an asshole.

Morally speaking, I would find it very difficult to be employed by a man who would seek to influence in an employee handbook (!) how I might or might not vote.......I would certainly be wondering how far up the ladder I might be able to get depending upon my personal political views, and I'd definitely be questioning whether I was living in a democracy. Tho I'm sure he's covered his tracks with his lawyers, it would just leave a nasty taste in my mouth

Re: The George Clooney and Steve Wynn argument
Vote intimidation by employers is not uncommon, unfortunately. It's right out of the Tea Party/Koch Brothers playbook. Papa John's Pizza and WalMart are two of the biggest companies known to have done it.
In addition to being a complete neocon dick, Wynn has shown himself to be a petty, jealous, backstabbing businessman. He could still be carrying a grudge about the development deal George backed out of years ago. Or the 8 million people who now have insurance through the ACA just bugs the shit out of him. Or maybe he hates the success of the tequila brand. You never know with narrow minded conservative dumbasses.

Re: The George Clooney and Steve Wynn argument
This is venturing into 'off topic' territory, but...
'Neocon' is, of course, short for 'neoconservative,' and refers to the group of people -- by and large Republican -- who advocate the aggressive spread of 'American' democracy internationally, whether any country's citizens want it or not; and the pursuit of 'traditional' positions on domestic issues. In other words, they want to "take the country" back to when it was run only by rich white men.
Wynn is one of those.
And George Clooney cursed him out.
There. Took it back to topic.

Most assuredly but his comment

Rule of human nature- the first person talking is usually the one with the ax to grind and most to hide. Only one talking seems to be Wynn.
Let's see, anyone in Wynn's business knows to take actors with a grain of salt. You mean the mafia Bugsby Seigal crime created Las Vegas gambling business. Let's listen to this guy, he should know. Seems we have elected an actor as President of the US. I am sure Wynn's hero too. (President Reagan- all conservative Republicans love him.) Did he take him with a grain of salt also. Any casino owners/mafia members yet as President- don't think so.
George should have called him something worse- hope he did. Hate hypocrites!!

Re: The George Clooney and Steve Wynn argument
“Everybody who’s in my business, the casino business, knows to take actors with a grain of salt.”
Everybody who is in business, is thankfully not in the casino business.... who is this guy?
All small men like to think their business IS of major importance to the world, a business that will prosper and elevate the world and it’s inhabitants, sadly for him, the casino business is not one of them.
The upside is that his beloved business is located in the “Ancient City of Las Vegas”, and thus surrounded by as much sand as he may need to replace the grains of salt he “liberally” throws around.
Mr “Casino” reminds me of a line by the great Oscar Wilde
“What is a cynic? A man who knows the price of everything and the value of nothing.”
On the side....
I don’t mean to be catty, but his wife certainly did not marry the millionaire Mr Casino because of his striking resemblance to George Clooney, thats for sure.
Must hurt a little...
@Lorna
my animosity is due to this story ... I have the unfortunate ability to smell an "asshole" coming ...ahem...

I'm sure George had a good reason to leave the table. Also, it's honorable to be loyal to a friend.
Furthermore, George is 1000% more charming than Steve Wynn, what may also be the source of jealousy.

Casino mogul brands George Clooney a drunk after actor called him an a**hole and stormed away from dinner for insulting President Obama
The verbal assault between the actor and Steve Wynn occurred two weeks ago when Clooney was in Las Vegas promoting his Casamigos tequila. He was invited to dine with Wynn and his wife, Andrea Hissom, at the fancy Botero restaurant inside the 72-year-old's Encore hotel. But when dinner was finished, the conversation turned to Obama's Affordable Care Act, of which Wynn is a vocal opponent. Clooney immediately took exception to how the billionaire chairman and CEO spoke of his 'longtime friend'. He allegedly declared that he didn't have to listen to 'this f***ing stuff' before exiting to another bar

George Clooney has confessed to calling Las Vegas gambling mogul Steve Wynn an 'a**hole' and storming off at a recent dinner because the casino-owner insulted President Barack Obama. The verbal assault occurred two weeks ago when the two-time Oscar winner was in Vegas promoting his Casamigos tequila, and was invited to dine with Wynn and his wife, Andrea Hissom, at the fancy Botero restaurant inside the 72-year-old's Encore hotel.
But when dinner was finished, the conversation turned to Obama's Affordable Care Act, of which Wynn is a vocal opponent. That's when sparks began to fly.
Falling out: George Clooney, pictured right in January with Steve Wynn and his wife Andrea, allegedly said the F-word at a recent dinner with the couple
Clooney immediately took exception to how the billionaire chairman and CEO spoke of his 'longtime friend.'
He allegedly declared that he didn't have to listen to 'this f***ing stuff' before exiting to another bar.
Wynn told the Las Vegas Review-Journal that Clooney likes his alcohol and 'got drunk' after drinking tequila shots.
'When he's drinking, he considers himself a close personal buddy of the president,' the said. 'Clooney's fun to be with when he's sober. If you have a chance to drink with him, you want to get there early, and don't stay late.
'Everybody who's in my business, the casino business, knows to take actors with a grain of salt.'
Wynn added Clooney's partners were 'mortified.'
Fancy: The row took place two weeks ago at the posh Botero Restaurant, pictured, which is located inside Wynn's Encore Hotel
Stories: Wynn, left, said Clooney had been downing tequila shots and was 'drunk' but Clooney, right, claims Wynn insulted his 'longtime friend' President Obama
However, in a statement sent to the newspaper, Clooney said: 'There were nine people at that table ... so you can ask them. ... Steve likes to go on rants.
'He called the president an a**hole ... that is a fact ... I said the President was my longtime friend and then he said "your friend is an a**hole."
'...At that point I told Steve that HE was an asshole and I wasn't going to sit at his table while he was being such a jackass.
'And I walked out. There were obviously quite a few more adjectives and adverbs used by both of us.
He added: 'It had nothing to do with politics and everything to do with character.'
Clooney was joined by his Casamigos business partners Rande Gerber and Michael Meldman at the table, as well as a few others.

Also, George Clooney is human. You remember back to the Fabio fight? Everyone gets upset about something. George Clooney gets upset sometimes too. I just hope its never about his fan kt_sue2002.

Agreed Melbert. Let's get back on topic.
I think Wynn isn't used to not getting his own way in conversations. You've got to wonder who ever thought that he and George at a dinner table together would be a good idea!

According to Page Six SW's bodyguards apparently were ready to pounce on GC~oh it amazes how this story has gone viral....

Bodyguards ‘loomed up behind’ Clooney in boozey blowup
George Clooney had an epic blowup over President Obama with Steve Wynn in Las Vegas that ended with the actor calling Wynn “an a - - hole” and storming off as the casino mogul’s security guards got ready to pounce on him.
Clooney came to verbal blows with the famously tough Wynn while dining at his Encore hotel with Rande Gerber.
A source told Page Six, “George and Rande were in Vegas for a party for their Casamigos tequila and had an early dinner with Wynn and other associates.
“Things turned nasty as Wynn was provoking George, talking about politics. At first George just wasn’t responding. He just sat there politely listening,” our source said. But “Steve kept pushing and pushing, then started raising his voice. George still didn’t respond, he really didn’t want to get into it.”
But finally, Wynn figured out how to push the “Gravity” star’s buttons. “Discussing Obamacare, Steve called Obama ‘an a - - hole,’ ” said our source. “George responded, ‘President Obama is my friend, don’t talk about him like that.’ ” Wynn then shot back, ‘Your friend is an a - - hole!’
“George glared at Steve and said, ‘No! You are an a - - hole, and I’m not going to sit here any more and listen to this!’ ”
The sources said while Clooney stuck up for the president, he pointed his finger at Steve, and “Wynn’s three goon-like bodyguards immediately loomed up behind Rande and George.” But “before Wynn’s bodyguards could touch them, George and Rande got up and walked out.”
Reps for Clooney and Wynn didn’t comment. But Wynn had claimed Clooney was downing tequila shots and told the Las Vegas Review Journal of the dust-up with the star two weeks ago, “When he’s drinking, he considers himself a close personal buddy of the president.”
Wynn added Clooney “threw a hissy fit” after a guest made a joke about Mikhail Gorbachev. And, “Clooney’s fun to be with when he’s sober. If you have a chance to drink with him, you want to get there early, and don’t stay late.”

Steve Wynn has bodyguards???
Sounds like he was looking for a fight. Good on George (and Rande) for walking out on him.

By the way, is he still going blind? ** Karma certainly IS a bitch!
Funny you use that phrase ** Lorna.
This came my way recently.....and I know of one or two people
where it applies, unfortunately.
"Treat people as you would like to treated.
Karma's only a bitch if you are"
Joanna you're entitled to your opinion and I'm entitled to mine.
That you took my post and turned it around into some insult of you and your friends is amazing to me.
And I'm not a bitch I'm allowed to express myself. I don't appreciate your judgements so why don't you take your own advice lest someone start thinking you're the bitch.
Thanks.
Hey Lorna.....Sorry ? ......I think some wires are crossed here ?
I didn't use your post as an insult at all. I never called you a bitch nor think of you in that way. You're too funny and your posts often put a smile on my face in the early hours.
I just thought it a coincidence when I read your last sentence "Karma certainly IS a bitch"
as I'd never heard that expression before and coming after finding those warning words I've quoted just made me think "strange, twice in one day" the karma/ bitch thoughts had come into my life.
(Actually this often happens in our house when something comes along say in the news etc and then it keeps reoccurring in other areas. My hubby is the one who notices it more than me.)
I'm sure, just like me, you can think of someone you've known that you'd like to have said that quote to on occasion, as a put down or final word in an argument.
I can think of some in my past !
Hope I've clarified myself ?
Maybe I didn't express myself clearly enough ? OK ?
I'm on a cocktail of meds at the moment and sometimes my brain feels a bit addled.

I think George did the right thing. He didn't punch anybody so I don't think the bodyguards have a good reason to touch them.

Clooney's Biz Partner:
George Wasn't Drunk When He Blasted Wynn
4/24/2014 12:20 AM PDT BY TMZ STAFF
George Clooney's biz partner insists the actor was NOT pounding shots before his nuclear blowout with casino mogul Steve Wynn -- and tells TMZ, "We weren't drunk."
As we reported, Clooney and Wynn (left) locked horns earlier this month at a fancy dinner in Vegas after Wynn called Obama an a-hole. Clooney shot back, calling Wynn the a-hole ... then stormed out.
Wynn claims things exploded because Clooney was slamming tequila -- but Rande Gerber, who was at the dinner -- insists, "No shots were had" ... and it was NOT a heated political debate.
Gerber says, "This wasn't about politics. It was about George standing up for a friend."
FYI, Clooney and Gerber (Cindy Crawford's husband) are partners in a tequila company called Casamigos. They were meeting with Wynn to discuss future business at Wynn's hotels, which already serves the brand.
Funny, we're told Wynn's hotels continue to stock Casamigos ... despite the blowout.

"It was about George standing up for a friend."
That's the catch-all response to other stories of George getting into fights. Remember the dust-up he supposedly had in London (can't remember the premiere of which film he was at) where he almost came to blows with paparazzi over the honour of a friend?

Yes true....I remember also his fight with director Russell while making Three Kings over Russell's bad treatment of someone on set.
He's also stood up for others when he felt an injustice had been done to them.
For intance, Eric Lasalle being discriminated against, because he's a black actor,
during the ER days.
I'm sure he does it a lot because his father Nick brought him up that way.
I love that about George and if more were like him, with that attitude, then maybe
some of the problems in our world might be resolved.
