Mundial Guerra II + Clooney + facts = good combination.
The truth is that "Monuments Men" is getting bad reviews, and the truth is that I am with people like Javier Sierra, I don't understand why. Of course it's not perfect and it suffers from some bugs, but I believe that, in general, the tape works pretty well and achieves its objective. Let's go by parts.
The film tells the story of a group of historians, Museum Directors and experts in art of various nationalities who is trained for the Mission of protecting and recovering the stolen works of art and cultural heritage by the nazis during the second world war. Mission complicated, since Hitler, through the Nero Decree, gave the order that, in case of fall, everything would be destroyed. These men are risked their lives to prevent the disappearance of thousands of years of humanity reflected in the various manifestations of art. And they not only tried to save them, but also to return them to their places of origin, something that has not always happened throughout history.

Not everyone understood the above mission, because they argued worry before the deaths and the drama of epic proportions that was living, this heritage was rather secondary. But it wasn't. It can be finished with a nation destroyed their culture, their identity, their past.
The film navigates between drama and comedy, but stays on the side of both genders, in such a way that you smile at times, but don't get to laugh (or I think it's the intended) and you estremeces elsewhere, because even though you do not cry, I believe that it reflects well the hard moments that lived this group of men. There are some sequences in particular who invite to reflect and to think, at least to me.

Bugs? I imagine that this dance between both genres makes it something warm and why they are putting it as they're getting it. It is not my case. My only drawbacks are the script, which isn't bad, but I expected more and American patriotism, especially at the end, that tired me already in the film.

Moreover, have found me a very amusing, endearing, film with a great soundtrack, a well-told story and a cast of actors and good performances (George Clooney and Bill Murray my favorites). Yes, I recommend it (do not speak of the book is based on because I have not read it, and I can not compare).

That's an interesting review.
I haven't seen it yet but don't think that including humour in the story is wrong.
My father went over to France on D Day 2 and survived all that went on in Europe for the rest of WW2.
He only talked about the funny things that happened.
A soldier's sense of humour is unique in a war zone don't forget !

Re: The Monuments Men, George Clooney.
The only weapon a soldier has to keep himself sane in the face of all the death around them is a very good sense of humor!
I seriously don't know what these critics are complaining about. This is a well told, well crafted story, which gives the audience a glimpse of what a harrowing experience these curators and artists endured to save art/culture...which is what makes us human's unique in the first place! Otherwise we're not much different than the animals and would pass into oblivion without much notice, except the bones and rubbish we left behind!

Re: The Monuments Men, George Clooney.
A lot of critics are reviewing the movie they expected to see, and not the one they saw. Of course 'MM' comes up short against the movie they would have made... if they could make movies instead of being relegated to watching and giving their opinions of them.

@Way2...I said that very same thing from the first group of reviews. They would have done the film and the producers a big favor if they had reviewed the film George and Grant made, instead of whining about the one they expected or wanted to see.

In all the reading I also find that a lot of critics seem to have formed an opinion back when the opening date was pushed back. They get something stuck in their head and then look at the movie that way. Then also you got your smart asses that just like to put George down, jealousy is a terrible thing.

This is 20th Century Fox Official Weibo(like Twitter here) account.Got some new Chinese version posters of MM. The guy who runs the account is really funny! He or she posts daily funny pics about George,Damon and Cate, even including some fantasy stories with Brad and Ben! I remember when Gravity hit theaters last fall, the official accounts of IMAX and WB always tried to sell "Handsome George" as one of the must-see reasons.
However, I'm still waiting for the exact release date. Hope I could make it in a month. As my birthday gift by the end of next month.
I realize the international gross isn't so impressive so far. So hope Monuments Men could make more money in world's second largest market. At least 20M? That's my guess.
