From Dusk Till Dawn Series Gets Premiere Date, Plus Info on Robert Orci's Soccer Star/Spy Drama
January 12, 2014
The El Rey Network announced Sunday at the Television Critics Association winter press tour that its first original scripted drama, From Dusk Till Dawn: The Series, will premiere on Tuesday, March 11 at 9/8c.
Network founder and filmmaker Robert Rodriguez will direct the first, second and fourth of Season 1′s 10 total episodes, while Emmy winner Greg Nicotero (The Walking Dead) will oversee make-up effects. Nikita executive producer Carlos Coto will serve as showrunner.
Described by Rodriguez as “a complete retelling of the original story” featured in his and Quentin Tarantino’s 1996 movie of the same name, the series’ cast includes D.J. Cotrona (Detroit 1-8-7) and Zane Holtz (Make It or Break It) as brothers Seth and “Richie” Gecko, Robert Patrick (The X-Files) as former pastor Jacob Fuller, Wilmer Valderrama (That ’70s Show) and Don Johnson (Nash Bridges) as Texas Rangers, Eiza González (Lola: Érase Una Vez) as Santánico Pandemonium, Jesse Garcia (Sons of Anarchy), Adrianne Palicki (Friday Night Lights), Jake Busey (Good Vibes) and Lane Garrison (Prison Break).
In success, the plan is for each season to take place — wait for it — from dusk till dawn of one day.
El Rey also revealed details on Matador, a new action series being produced by Sleepy Hollow‘s Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman and set to premiere in summer 2014. Loosely inspired by the life of Major League Baseball catcher Morris “Moe” Berg, it will revolve around Antonio “Matador” Bravo, a popular soccer star whose sports career is but a cover. In truth, he is a skilled covert operative executing missions for a little known branch of the CIA.
It was also announced that Emmy-winning reality-TV uberprodcer Mark Burnett has signed with El Rey to create a new sports business in the U.S. featuring lucha libre wrestling, beginning in the second half of 2014 with a weekly series featuring a new lucha libre league.

It's quite a cast, but I can't begin to imagine anyone but George and Quentin playing the Gecko brothers. It might be a good series, but it won't be the real thing.
By the way, what is the El Rey Network? I've never heard of it before. Is it something new on cable or on the web like Netflix or Hulu?

Thanks, Mel but I'm still confused. Where will we be able to see this? Is it on the web or on tv? He doesn't say.

I couldn't tell either Lizzy, but since I don't like Rodriguez I wouldn't be interested in any of that crap...

Fair enough, Mel. I was just thinking I might take a look at the FDTD series to see what it was like. Can't watch it if I can't find it, though.

Re: A New Series from "From Dusk to Dawn"
i watched the first episode a couple of nights ago and its starts the same as the film, the guy who plays Seth (George's character) actually has allot of mannerisms the same as George, its good, worth watching if you liked the film. The series goes in to more detail off the story as obviously they have more time than trying to squeeze it all in to a film

It wasn't available on my list of TV shows I can order, but haven't tried all the apps on my TV yet - hoping I will find it so I can see what its all about.

Re: A New Series from "From Dusk to Dawn"
As it is a NETFLIX original series, I would think it is only available to NETFLIX subscribers. They have a couple of series that are only NETFLIX available.
