Clooney Wanted: Cardboard or Alive

An Enderby businessman has decided to have some fun with all the attention a movie, staring George Clooney, is bringing to town.

“Everyone is asking where’s George? Have you seen George? We are getting calls from Alberta, Saskatchewan you know,” explains Mark McMahon, owner of Empire Re:Productions.
“The truth is I’m sitting in the back of the shop at the end of the day having a rum and coke and I thought to myself, 'I am going to make a life-size George and I am going to put it in front of the building here and then people really could say, ‘..I saw George'.”
So he did just that. With his printing company, McMahon created a life size George Clooney cut-out, which immediately was a huge hit. After another rum and coke, he decided to try and involve local other businesses to provide gift certificates as prizes for those who could find ‘George’ in his cut-out adventures around the small town; and thus the ‘Wanted’ posters were born.
“Some businesses in town aren’t doing so well and everyone needs the buzz, so I was excited when we went from five or 10 businesses involved to 78 business who wanted to join in. Everyone I asked said, ‘I’m in, I’m in', they just wanted to be involved in the community you know. They’ve all kicked in gift certificates and this thing really snowballed,” added McMahon.
In fact, even Hollywood is interested. Clooney’s own movie set staff have now got involved and have dropped by McMahon's business to grab posters for the main man himself to sign, of which McMahon might get one. He says he will donate it to the Lions Club to use to help less fortunate kids get into hockey.

Three life-size ‘Georges’ can now be found throughout the North Okanagan town, if you find him you get to enter for $2,000+ worth of gift certificates and prizes, but remember George moves to a new location every day!
Enderby is one hundred per cent behind the project and the local Lions Club and Legion are throwing a community BBQ at the local Gazebo at the Ball diamond on Saturday September 28. The BBQ will start at noon and then the grand prize draws will be at 4 p.m.
Businesses will set up booths; there will a DJ and an open mic. After it’s all said and done there will be a draw to take home a George cut-out.
“These ladies, they love it, take George home tonight!,” laughed McMahon.
“No insult to George, it's celebrating Enderby, and how excited we are he is in our town,” added McMahon.
Now wouldn’t it be nice if Mr.Clooney himself made a short, very much appreciated, appearance at the community BBQ celebrating his presence?

Have you seen George Clooney? Shuswap businesses jump on Tomorrowland fever with star's cut-outs
Have you seen George Clooney? Shuswap businesses jump on Tomorrowland fever with star's cut-outs

George Clooney has been spotted in several towns in Shuswap Country.
Clooney and his crew are filming sci-fi movie Tomorrowland around Enderby, Grindrod and Salmon Arm and fans have been calling local businesses to inquire about the star.
“We’ve all been getting calls from all over and people keep on asking, ‘Have you seen George?,’” said Mark MacMahon, owner of the graphic company Empire Re:production.
Clooney has so far been elusive.
“Then I thought, ‘Why not make a cut-out of him and place it all over so people could really say they spotted George?’” McMahon said.
And so he did.
For the past two weeks, three 5-foot-11 life-size Clooney cut-outs have been circulating in the area and residents have been taking photos with the star’s cardboard doppelgänger every chance they get.
The cut-outs drew so much attention that McMahon and 79 other businesses turned them into a marketing strategy.
Each business contributed gift cheques of $20 or more to a raffle that people can enter by signing up at shops where the cut-outs are stationed.
Since the cut-outs move around every day, people have many opportunities to participate.
But the catch is, you can only enter your name once in an establishment. You must sign up at other locations if you want to increase your chances of winning.
“It’s been so successful,” MacMahon said. “People have been going to stores that they sometimes won’t visit. It’s been fun, but also good for business.”
The raffle is scheduled during a barbecue at the Riverside Ball Park gazebo at 4 p.m. on Sept. 28 in Enderby.
Around $2,500 worth of gift certificates will be shared among five lucky winners and the barbecue’s proceeds will go to the Lions Club and the Enderby Legion Branch 98.
After the raffle, three lucky fans will also go home with a Clooney cut-out.
MacMahon is unsure whether the Hollywood star is aware of the initiative, but he said Clooney’s presence at the barbecue would be the cherry on top of an already successful campaign.
“Imagine if he comes, kisses a baby and draws five names, everyone’s going to go crazy,” MacMahon said. “Wouldn’t that just be the greatest?”

Didn't we have someone awhile back looking for a cardboard cutout of George? We never heard back how he made out.
