We had a kind of miracle in my neck of the woods. They actually started plowing about 8 last evening and plowed through our street every 2 hrs. or so, all night long. Never in the 54 yrs. I've lived in this house, has our street been cleaned so well, so soon.
Glad you're safe patty....same thing happened with me when we had snow the other week....our hill was gritted for the first time in the ten years we've lived here. Think it was for the refuse collection wagon....but it never came anyway ! But we all benefitted.

Lessons from Sandy perhaps?

Ahhh, so you build the snowperson around the clothing! Thanks! I could see how a bikini top would go on, but for the life of me couldn't figure out how you'd get the bottom half onto the snowwoman!

Joanna, the plowing is done by our Sanitation Dept. (refuse collectors), always has been. That's why it usually takes so long to get it done.
Lorna, if it's a lesson from Sandy, it's one of the few good lessons learned. It's unbelieveable how much devastation still exists and the chaos that still exists. Latest brainstorm - people whose homes were desimated (sic) now have to elevate their homes when they rebuild them. They don't have enough headaches, now they have athe additional expense of extending their foundations.

Ok, it makes sense that if you live in a flood-prone area then you should rebuild a more flood-proof home (if there is such a thing) but the additional expenses need to be covered by someone, not just the homeowner.

I think the point is that the way it has been done in the past (without the flood stilts as I'll call them) was that huge tax payer money went to rebuilding these homes. That's what's happening now with the billions approved by Congress/Senate.
I think by requiring them to build on stilts now they hope to save more homes in the future which in the long run will also help the homeowners by hopefully maintaining their homes and also reducing their own insurance costs.
The taxpayer hopefully will also win with less government aide needed if less homes are damaged or destroyed.

Thanks Jo for the beautiful winter scenes. We got less than a foot of snow here but I read on the internet that Rochester, New York got over 2 feet. Some folks there can't get ot of their driveway to get to work. See, there are some benefits to snow.
I've been kind of out of it the past few days. I think I have the neurovirus that's going around. I have stomach cramps that are an unwelcome reminder of labor pains.

Feel better cindigirl the stomach bug is the worst. Today is so rainy that I am thinking most of the snow will go away. Parts of CT got close to 3 ft. Makes my almost a foot not so bad. Hard part is that my street is never fully plowed so it is hard to drive down.

Thanks silly girl - a little trick with the stomach bug is if you don't eat, your stomach doesn't complain too much. lol
And I have a firm belief that if the snow covered roads are hard to drive on, don't drive. Stay safe. I've had enough spin-outs to last me for a lifetime.

Re: February Chit Chat
Cindigirl, I had that bug and thankfully it sped it's way thru my body more quickly than it did friends. feel VERY sorry for you! I doubt you can do this since you're roads are still crummy but what I swear took my stomach cramps away was a Ginger tea I made and lived on for a day. You peel and grind up a big chunk of Ginger. Then take a tablespoon at a time and plop it in a cup. Cover with boiling water. I added lemon and a smiddge of honey. Oops--forgot to say, steep it for a few minutes then you can drain the bits of Ginger with a strainer and just drink the liquid. I drank the whole shebang as I pulverized the Ginger in my food processor. Within a few hours, the cramping was gone and the nausea and other lovely parts of the bug were gone by the end of the day. I just kept drinking the stuff til I felt better.

Thanks ladies for your caring. Just went shopping and stocked up on Gatorade, water and yogurt (pro biotic). Ginger and ginger ale is a good idea too. I think I'll live on that for a couple of days. I may lose a few more pounds but it's worth it. I'm creating my own cleanse diet

Yeah Oof gets a sunny day, congratulations, enjoy it immensely while it lasts. Take puppy for a nice walk. We have just had almost a week of hot weather and again this week apparently. We don't have aircon in any bedrooms so we are all sleeping in the 2 lounge rooms to cool down at night. Kids think its like a camping trip and are having a ball. Simple things amuse them, which is good.

Sillygirl - I enjoy the hot weather, just never been able to sleep when its hot, so thats a bit yuck. Hope you are using a leash with your puppy, he might get blown away.
One day Im definitely going to spend Christmas in US or UK just so I can experience a chilly Christmas again. We can house-swap (HA HA), you can come here for Christmas, put on shorts/t-shirt, slather on the sunscreen and get a sun-tan while you wait for the bbq to be finished.

Re: February Chit Chat
I know people talking about their pets is boring, but I can't stop myself. You all know we have a parrot in our office right? Well, he sits near the bathroom door which has now developed a loud squeak when you open and close it.
For days our janitor's been oiling the door and trying to fix the squeak to no avail. We've all been trying out different ways of opening the door (slowly, forcefully, normally) to minimise the noise.
Eventually it occurred to us to ask why the door only squeaked between 9am and 6pm . . . yup you've guessed it. Nothing wrong with the door at all. It was the parrot sitting there screeching whenever anyone went in or out of the bathroom.

Katie that is so funny. Your parrot keeps things interesting.
I saw that Joanna.....there is a way to let Facebook know that it is an erroneous account, go to the Facebook page and click on message. You can submit a report to them. I suggest you or Katie do it as she is using your names. Hopefully it will block her. Such a shame. She really has lost it.

I think it's gone way past "getting a life" and more a case of needing a white, tight fitting designer "jacket" which straps the sleaves of it around to the backside very nicely!
Sorry you all are having such a hard time! You don't deserve it.

This is undoubtedly boring but exciting for me, so I'll go ahead and bore you anyway..
After what feels like forever, too many hot days/hot night, a bushfire or 2 (too close to my house), finally thunderstorms arrived just now, lightning and rain, lots of it, hooray. Only downer was that it all happened as I was running through a carpark dressed for summer, accidentally becoming an entrant in a wet-t-shirt competition, (pretty sure I won, so that's okay). Thunderstorms are one of my favourite things, Im a happier cooler mini now. Cheers to all.

Glad for you Theminis. Would welcome some warmth and the sun here but can't stand weeks on end of really hot weather with no breaks. On the other hand, since it rains here almost every day during the winter, I'm a bit tired of being refreshed by the rain! Maybe the problem is that we don't seem to get the " after the rain" part! My moss is even starting to complain...

Too funny - see where I live, the weather changes constantly, but the prediction is for a longer hotter summer than usual. Theres about a week left before Autumn (Fall) arrive so we shall see if they are right.

I understand how you're impatient with the heat - but at this point i almost envy you. Here in US on the east coast we're having a wicked, wicked winter with temps well below freezing and the wind howling at about 30 miles per hour. And folks north of us are having a blizzard with over a foot of snow.
My heat furnace almost never turns off and I think it's starting to complain because it's rattling and wheezing. LOL

LOL silly girl - I think the weather people call that "insignificant sun." I'm about to put on my second layer of clothing. I think I'll curl up in front of the TV under a blanket and watch a Clooney movie. That may work.

Well I dont want to be part of a wicked winter or constant rain, but here our weather is so unpredictable at times, it would be nice to experience normal seasons. My air conditioner has been getting a real work-out, think its had about just as much over-use as your furnace. Sunny and hot all day but supposed to rain again tonight so looking forward to that. Rug up, watch Clooney, sure that will take your mind off the cold! x
