It isn't clear what, but it looks like there was something on top of the shoes. Kind of looks edited a bit too, the pic in that area does.

Maybe those shoes are still form his Uncle, you know Uncle Abe as in Abraham Lincoln. They sure look like it !

Ok I'll comment on the shoes....I was too busy looking at the sweet smile on his face to notice the shoes --at first. Maybe he was wearing really old shoes because of where they were walking. Not sure where he is but the ground looks messy. Don't we all try to wear an old pair when there is a possibility they might get ruined? I am sure he has nicer ones with him too.

Are not muddy, these are just old Timberland boots leather stained and worn and George wears them often. He lacks a woman who occcupa of her closet and throw away old things and consumed! If I did not do cleaning in the closet of my husband probably would find us still in school uniforms!

My husband had a pair of "originals" which were jeans that he NEVER washed...most bikers have them and they would STAND in the corner of the spare room all by themselves as a "monument" to his youth, until they finally fell apart because I couldn't take it anymore (the smell of dirt, gasoline and oil ) and I washed them...didn't hear the end of that for years!

So these boots are not so bad!
