GEORGE Clooney left staff and customers starstruck when he dropped in for lunch at a Shere pub, fuelling rumours that a new film is to be set in the village.

The Hollywood A-lister was a surprise guest at the William Bray pub, in Shere Lane, on Thursday (August 30).

Owner of the pub, Julian Bailey, admitted that Clooney's appearance had taken everyone by surprise as his table booking had in fact been recorded for a different day.

"Someone had made the booking for a particular table and said that there would be a famous name in the party," he said.

"But for some reason it had been booked for the following week so we weren’t expecting anyone. I was with my wife and son when he came in and it was my son who recognised him.

"George was very polite and pleasant to the waitresses – who were a little flustered – and he certainly seemed to enjoy his meal."

The actor was joined by four others, who were believed to be making a visit to Shere for a production company.

Clooney is not the first famous face to grace the William Bray, as ex-Formula 1 driver Mr Bailey often entertains his motorsport and Top Gear friends at the pub.

Shere was also a setting for 2006 film The Holiday starring Jude Law and Cameron Diaz, as well as Bridget Jones' Diary and the Foyle's War television series.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
