PRODUCERS GUILD ASSOCIATION AWARDS.
Producers Guild top 10 nominees
By Dave Karger, EW.com
updated 5:02 PM EST, Tue January 3, 2012
"The Tree of Life," which has done well in the critics awards so far, clearly takes the biggest hit in the overall Oscar race.
STORY HIGHLIGHTS
Expected contenders are "The Artist," "War Horse," "The Descendants," "The Help"
Left off the list, meanwhile, were "Drive," "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close"
"The Tree of Life" is no longer a sure thing for a Best Picture nomination
(EW.com) -- The Producers Guild of America has announced its 10 nominees for Best Picture of the Year, and along with expected contenders like "The Artist," "War Horse," "The Descendants," "The Help," and "Hugo" were two minor surprises: "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo" and "The Ides of March."
Left off the list, meanwhile, were "Drive," "Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close," and most interestingly, "The Tree of Life." That polarizing film, which has done well in the critics awards so far, clearly takes the biggest hit in the overall Oscar race and is no longer a sure thing for a Best Picture nomination.
Last year, the PGA honorees matched the eventual Best Picture nominees nine for 10, but this year it may not be as easy to compare the two -- the Academy's new voting rules dictate that there will be somewhere between five and 10 Best Picture nominees this go-round, depending on how many films receive at least 5 percent of the overall No. 1 votes. The PGA awards will take place on Jan. 21; all the nominees are listed below.

Re: PRODUCERS GUILD ASSOCIATION AWARDS.
From E-online
he Producers Guild nominations were announced today—and the Best Picture field for the Oscars just might have been set.
So, get ready to count in Bridesmaids.
Maybe.
RELATED: Has Breaking Dawn's best shot been shot?
The indisputable good news for Kristen Wiig's Bridesmaids is that it's one of 10 PGA nominees for film of the year.
Its competition is made up of George Clooney films and the other now-usual suspects: The Artist, The Descendants, The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo, The Help, Hugo, The Ides of March, Midnight in Paris, Moneyball and War Horse.
All but Dragon Tattoo, the closest thing to a mild surprise here, are up for the top awards at the Golden Globes.
Notably absent from the PGA Awards' field are some heavyweights that have made it a habit of being notably absent from the season's top races: Clint Eastwood and Leonardo DiCaprio's J. Edgar; Terrence Malick and Brad Pitt's The Tree of Life; Tom Hanks and Sandra Bullock's Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close; and, Gary Oldman's Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.
And, no, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2 didn't get nominated, either, so that's pretty much the end of that film's dream.
Last year, a PGA nomination just about guaranteed a berth at the Oscars, with nine of the 10 PGA films going on to compete for the top prize at the Kodak Theatre.
But here's the problem for Bridesmaids, which would now seem poised to finally bring honor to puke-accented, R-rated comedies: The Oscars may not nominate 10 films this year.
There's always something, isn't there?
Elsewhere, the critically trashed Cars 2 will compete for top toon honors against The Adventures of Tintin, Kung Fu Panda 2, Puss in Boots and Rango.
Mildred Pierce and The Kennedys are up for the TV-movie/miniseries prize opposite Cinema Verite, Downton Abbey and Too Big to Fail.
The PGA earlier announced its slate of TV series nominees.
The 23rd Annual Producers Guild of America Awards are set to be presented Jan. 21.

I wonder if George will present the honorary award to Les Moonves. They're good friends.

Yay! Thank you so much Laetval for posting these! I've spent the day at the beach and had no time to go searching on the internet.
George looks great and I love all those facial expressions - you can almost hear him speak, can't you?
However, if he ever goes out in public with a tuxedo jacket and normal tie again, I think Armani will hunt him down and have him shot. Quite rightly too IMO.

Re: PRODUCERS GUILD ASSOCIATION AWARDS.
From Nikki Finke----GC part:
This was one of the tightest and certainly best produced Producers Guild Of America awards I have seen. In fact it was one of the best Guild shows period. The clip reels across the board were exceptional — starting with a hilarious opening montage of movies featuring actors playing producers. It killed. As did a reel introducing Milestone Award recipient Leslie Moonves that even featured clips of his (very) past career as a fledgling actor. He wisely gave that up for the career path of a media mogul. George Clooney also got lots of laughs presenting his former E.R./Warner Bros Television boss Les Moonves the award, particularly with a riotous impression of the now CBS honcho. Moonves got him back by saying, “I think everyone is aware of the last few weeks and what a low profile you have taken.” Moonves did tell the crowd that ”every production is a minor miracle, every TV show, every movie,” while giving credit to producers like Mark Burnett and Jerry Bruckheimer for overcoming the odds and turning out hits.
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
There is a nice photo too but as usual can't figure out how to copy....

When George is flying solo and doing his own shtick (Yiddish) he looks happy and sexy. I wonder if he realizes that.
Also, I noticed on wireimage that there was a breakfast for nominees and Grant was there, but there were no pics of George.
