George's old quote about drugs

I still can't find the pic I want to use as an avatar, but have dredged up other stuff in my search!

This is his quote about doing drugs when he was younger, which I think he said in 2000:

In college, I basically partied a lot. You gotta understand. We're a very strict Catholic family. Curfew was at nine p.m. when I was a senior in high school. So I got out of the house and thought, Oh my God! People don't ever really like to talk about this anymore, but there was a period of time when blow was considered OK, like it won't hurt you at all. It was almost mainstream. All the designer drugs were OK-Quaaludes and blow. So that was the time in college for me: Drugs and chasing girls.

I remember that quote. He blew all his college money pretty quick. I don't think studying was really part of his college experience.

His mum said something similar in a TV interview: they (stupidly) gave him the money for all three years in one go and by the end of the first semester, it was all gone! Something along those lines.

He had to do the first year twice and then dropped out, right?

Admin-sounds like whatever he did, he did a lot of dropping.....

Maybe that explains his taste in women????

J, there's been times when I've really been in the gutter and come to think of it, that's who I attracted. I still have low self-esteem, but at least I don't have gutter trash. Come to think of it, I don't have anybody. But, that's okay right now...

Thanks Purgatoire! I've got my grandbabies that I get to see tomorrow, so I'll be a happy camper then! They'll spend Christmas day with other grandma, but that's okay. I'm just going to plug in a Clooney-a-thon!!!!

MelB-I understand and suspect we all do to some degree. Learning to enjoy one's own company may be the answer--let me know when you figure it out, I am certainly a work in progress.

Bringing this thread from 18 months ago back on topic, I always wonder how seriously involved in drugs George actually was.

Can't help but think he's exaggerated trying cocaine for hunorous effect or is that me indulging in a little wishful thinking?

The funny thing is, I can easily imagine him to this day smoking dope.

I think George has smoked a lot of marijuana, when he was Ocean Twelve? Amsterdam, he and Bred Pitt often went to Coffee shops (they do not sell coffee, but soft drugs) to smoke!

In that one interview that I just saw again for the first time with Norman Lear (CRS), George stated that he never smoked cigarettes. I do believe that is wrong, as one interview I heard, he stated that he smoked a little, but stopped completely before Rosemary died. As far as drugs, I think he did his fair share, but don't think he was totally hardcore about it. He seems to me to be too intent on his thinking abilities for writing, directing, etc., to be a total druggy. I'm sure that he probably smokes pot occasionally, to relax?

I had never read this quote before:

Never read that quote either Doug Ross.  George has been pretty honest about his drug taking and his episodes of hard drinking ( after his spinal injury).  He said in the Rollng Stone interview after he arrived in Hollywood that he partied like crazy, mainly booze, some coke and many quaaludes ("I thought quaaludes were the greatest drug ever made")!

It is a bit amazing with all the drinking and drugs that he never let it noticeably get out of control and let it take over him.  He must have a pretty strong constitution.

Oh lummy I feel such a ninny.....I've never tried any of the above consensually....so the times I did I can't remember.....but I believe a good time was had by all....
