George in Como

This seems quite early (or is it me?) but I guess if the twins are in school they will have broken up by now too. 

    Oh, hang on, they're usually there for July 4th aren't they?

Right PAN.  I wonder if we will see any pics of the family on their boat this 4th?  Hope so.

Lots of places have curtailed fireworks shows because of a lack of supplies and personnel. So maybe they'll go out on the boat and just stare at the sky. "See, that's where I was in 'Solaris' and 'Gravity.' Space is the one place Daddy doesn't do well with women."

From what I remember They usually go at the end of June.

I always found it odd that they would celebrate Independence Day in Italy. Are the previous firework displays I've seen there privately funded by George or is Como that Americanized? I'm not complaining, just wondering.

Ida - I don't know who pays for them. PAN might know.

 I think George just likes being on the lake in the summer. He can take his boat out or swim in the pool or the lake. It's relatively quiet and the town respects his privacy. Great views, great food. What's not to like? Besides, if he wasn't in Italy he'd probably be in the UK, and I'm not too sure they'd appreciate 4th of July fireworks!

The fireworks on the lake are all at this time of year because there are several Saints Days in Italy at the same time as Independence Day - and of course it's a brilliant setting with the lake, mountains & some pretty amazing hotels and towns joining in and funding the displays. 

The main ones are on the only island on the lake, Sale Comacina for Santa Giovanni and many of the large hotels like Villa D'Este and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo join in (must be good for business and American tourists.

At some point Napoleon ruled the area as well but I think he got as far as Verona, so whether he had any days named after him I couldn't be sure!

George Clooney and his wife Amal looked in high spirits on Thursday evening when they were pictured out enjoying a lavish meal with pals in Moltrasio, Lake Como.
The actor, 60, cut a dapper figure in a grey blazer, matching trousers and a black shirt as they dined al fresco. 
Human rights lawyer Amal, 44, put on a glamorous display in a pink satin gown while escorted to her seat at the upmarket restaurant.

The natural beauty styled her long brunette locks in loose waves, while sporting a full face of glam makeup. 


The couple tied the knot at a lavish ceremony in Venice in 2014 and the couple went on to welcome twins Alexander and Ella, four.

It comes after reports that George and Amal were reportedly set to splash out £6.8million (€7.9million) on a sprawling 425-acre estate in the south of France.

The property is located in Brignoles in the Var, known as Domaine de Canadel, which boasts a swimming pool, tennis court and a 25-acre (10-hectare) vineyard.
The stunning historic house is also thought to be just a stone's throw from George's fellow Hollywood star and Oceans' co-star Brad Pitt's Château Miraval in Correns, meaning the pals would be neighbours while in Europe.
Set on 425 acres (172 hectares) the 18th century main house is thought to be spread out over three stories to provide ample space and was been remodelled in the 1990s by architect Bruno Lafourcade, reports Dirt.

So, I guess the summer road trips are really over?? I guess we all have to grow up sometime.

After watching the video of his 2018 motorcycle accident in Sardinia, I'm surprised Amal didn't make him sell them all earlier. He's lucky to be alive after that one!

I am willing to bet that George has negotiated for the bike to be auctioned for charity from there, and it's only happening now because Como has been closed for a couple of years because of covid. 

And that Il Gatto Nero will also benefit from the publicity, as they always have before from George's frequent visits there every year.

I may get beat up over this.... but I really can't take this woman seriously when she dresses like this and all of her other style statements - makes me feel that she's more interested in fashion than her "causes".  Go ahead- let me have it. I like her work wardrobe a lot. It's her off-the-clock clothes that make me wonder why she's such a fashion victim. And why, for all that's holy, can't the two of them sync their choices? She dresses for a night of clubbing and he looks like he's hanging out at home watching tv.

Well, I'm glad it's not just me. I love her red carpet attire and her work attire but some of her casual attire makes me raise my eyebrows as well. I thought it looked like a teddy as well.

Some of her evening attire and dresses are entirely too short and rather unprofessional for a barrister, even on her day off.

I've been trying to keep my mouth shut about it because I'm 61 and old fashioned. I'm also being a bit hypocritical since I wander about in my community wearing shorts and tank tops that are most likely inappropriate for a woman of my age. The only difference is that no one paps me or cares about my attire. Lol.

So not only am I judgemental but hypocritical, too.

I honestly think Amal's a beautiful woman but it's hard for me to respect someone who dresses like that. She knows by now that she is going to be papped so why would you give them any additional ammunition?

I'm just a jealous old hag. Carry on.

Maybe being married to George makes her think she has to stay "hip" (if that's still a word). Maybe she thinks he wants her to be a pap magnet - the whole "look at my gorgeous wife" thing. Or maybe she just likes the attention. Who tf knows? Not me!

Thanks for the link. It looks like George's sister, Ada is visiting now. At least the Paparazzi seem to be getting better about blurring out the twins faces. I can't believe hw fast they are growing. Amal's dress is stunning (although a bit see through).  George looks mighty fine as well. I'm glad he ditched the jeans for their night out. It was odd seeing some of their pics where she was dressed to the nines and he was so casually attired.

I agree Ida.  So nice to see George complementing Amal’s stunning outfit.  George looks super dashing in his gray suit and white open collar shirt.  Love all the pics.  It’s been so long since we’ve seen George and Amal in Como on their summer vacations.  Like old times.

Is it as hot in Italy as it is further north? Thinking about the massive heat wave on the continent made me wonder if they've installed A/C in the house. I remember seeing an interview George did there way back before he was married and he was talking about how hot it was. There were a couple of standing fans, but it was obviously uncomfortably warm. Considering the high ceilings, I would think A/C would be impractical. I know it's probably a bit cooler around the lake than further inland, but I'm guessing it's still pretty warm.

No it isn't - currently 40 degrees here - and about 33 there - plus a lake! However there is some concern that the lake is shrinking because the rivers in the top of the mountains have dried up with lack of rain. Global warming there too!

George in his suit is always usual in the evenings and for places like Villa d'Este and the Grand Hotel Tremezzo further up the lake...

Lizzy, I'm on a Chromebook laptop and I've often found that an Ipad sometimes does not necessarily configure. My only thought (as a non-techie) is maybe the links would work of you typed into the bar at the top.

  The other possibility could be that you have to subscribe to things that I do not...Arrgh!!

PAN - I don't know. I'm a total Luddite when it comes to this stuff. Honestly, it's not a major problem. If I'm not too lazy or time challenged, I can look for the things myself - or wait for Annemarie (Bless you a thousand times over! ) to post the articles here. One way or another I usually get to see them.
