Japanese car companies have been hiring American celebrities to star in home-market television advertisements set in ocean-straddling Japan/California locations for decades, and SAIC Volkswagen applied the same formula to the Chinese market a few years back, with this advertisement for the first-year Volkswagen Phideon.

George Clooney, having a bad day at the office after getting the eye from a pair of comely maidens, unwinds in his chauffered Phideon—based on the same platform as the Audi A6 and available only in China—with a highway drive along what might be Monterey Bay… or maybe it's the South China Sea.
