Hugh Grant shares bizarre theory why George Clooney 'sleeps in the closet'

The British rom com actor has explained why he believes rumours that George shuns the huge rooms of his countryside mansion in favour of sleeping in a much more humble setting


Hugh Grant has discussed a stereotype that is attached to famous actors – and questions whether or not George Clooney sleeps in a closet due to being ‘emotionally’ stuck in his humble years.


The 60-year-old British actor and 59-year-old George were due to star in a reboot film version of the TV series The Persuaders in 2007.



Hugh claims George sleeps in a tiny room in his palatial Berkshire mansion due to being emotionally attached to the condition of his life when he first found fame.


George was aged 33 when he first found fame on medical drama ER – while Hugh was a similar age when he became a household name following his ‘90s movie success.

Speaking to the Daily Mail, Hugh said: “I love the theory I have heard that people who suddenly get well-known stick emotionally, in terms of their personality, at the moment at which they get famous.


“They can't move on from it. I've heard stories that George Clooney, in his vast mansion, still sleeps in the closet, because he was sleeping in a very small apartment when he got famous.”

Hugh went on to reveal he has kept his own bachelor pad from his early days of global fame which he now uses as a retreat from his hectic family life – which includes wife Anna Eberstein and his five children.

Hugh said: “I'm talking to you now from the flat I had at that time and which I've never sold, because I like to run away here to work.


“I feel safe here. Well, you know, around the corner, I've got five screaming children and a whole other life.”
George, meanwhile, lives in a huge English countryside estate with wife Amal, 42, and their three-year-old twins Ella and Alexander.
