After spending decades as one of the world's most eligible bachelors, family man George Clooney is getting ready to spend more time in Southern California – amid speculation he may be seeking to run for office in Los Angeles.
DailyMailTV can exclusively reveal that the Ocean's Eleven superstar, 58, is carrying out a multi-million dollar upgrade at his Studio City mansion, seen in these exclusive aerial photographs.
The father-of-two is adding three new buildings to sit alongside the former bachelor pad – including a 'proposed play cottage and villas for live-in help.
The renovation prompts speculation over whether the two-time Oscar winner and his human rights lawyer wife Amal, 42, are planning to raise their two-year-old London-born twins Ella and Alexander, in the U.S.

Clooney has also applied to build a funicular - which is a cable railroad - an exterior pizza oven and a water feature on the property, according to planning documents.
Builders are putting in a new steel staircase, extending the property's deck with a trellis and revising its windows.
Aerial pictures show that construction work is well under way and neighbors say the noise of building has been coming from the property for months.

The construction project is valued at almost $1.1 million, with Clooney spending over $33,000 just to obtain the building permits.
Just this week, pictures showed how his 17th century mansion in the English countryside was swamped by floods.
Residents on Clooney's street in Studio City say they have heard that cottages are being built at the property for the Clooneys' live-in help.
One said that it had taken Clooney much less time than usual to be granted the building permits, which were applied for through his George Guilfoyle Trust.
A neighbor who lives opposite Clooney's property and gave her name as Tanya said: 'My personal theory is that he is upgrading the house because he's getting ready to run for office. He's always expressed a lot of interest in politics.
'My guess is that he wants to run for mayor of Los Angeles when (current mayor) Eric Garcetti's term ends. George held a fundraiser for Obama on the tennis court here and another for Hillary Clinton where it was $1,000 a plate. He's big in the Democratic Party.
'The workers start at around 7.30am but most of the noise is when they start bringing the heavy duty equipment at around 6am or 6.30am.
'They are putting up three or four little cottages for help, nannies and live-in help, that kind of thing.'

The Clooney family have been living in the U.K., where wife Amal is from and the twins were born
Six of the permits for the ongoing work were issued by the Los Angeles Department of Building and Safety on July 16 last year.
Another two were granted just after Christmas on December 27, 2019.
One neighbor, who asked not to be named, said: 'It's been noisy for a quite a few of months now. I don't have any complaint – that's just the way construction is.'
Clooney bought the 7,354-square-foot six-bedroom villa for $2.2million from Fleetwood Mac singer Stevie Nicks as his career began to take off in 1995 and has never put it on the market.
Aside from his mansions in California and England, the silver fox also owns property in Manhattan and Lake Como, Italy, where he likes to spend the summer.
In 2016 he sold the compound he shared with pal and business partner Rande Gerber in Los Cabos, Mexico, for $100million
At the time, it was claimed the pair were building another compound in the area.
If Clooney were to move his family back to Los Angeles it would allow him to spend time with celeb friends such as Brad Pitt, Matt Damon, Julia Roberts and Sandra Bullock.
He has previously joked that he would call Pitt over Damon to babysit his twins because the Once Upon A Time In Hollywood star has more kids and 'better juggling'.
The actor would also be able to play host to his friends Prince Harry and Meghan Markle when they visit California.

Clooney has politics in his blood, as his father Nick unsuccessfully ran to represent Kentucky's fourth district in Congress in 2004 (he's pictured with his parents in 2005)
Clooney, whose father Nick unsuccessfully ran to represent Kentucky's fourth district in Congress in 2004, has previously hinted at moving on to a political career.
He joked at the Venice Film Festival in 2017: 'Would I like to be the next president? Oh, that sounds like fun.'
Clooney would certainly have the funds for a run at office after the Casamigos tequila firm he co-founded with Gerber and Mike Meldman sold for up to $1billion in 2017.
The actor and director has previously been outspoken in his criticism of President Donald Trump.
He said in 2017: 'When you direct a film you have seven different unions all wanting different things, you have to find consensus with all of them, and you have to get them moving in the same direction. [Trump's] never had to do any of that kind of stuff.
'I just look at it and I laugh when I see him say ''Hollywood elite''. Hollywood elite? I don't have a star on Hollywood Boulevard, Donald Trump has a star on Hollywood Boulevard! F**k you!'
If he can kick-start a successful political career Clooney would be following in the footsteps of other Hollywood actors such as late President Ronald Reagan and former Governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger.

O.K. time out mayor of Los Angeles lol. That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard so far.
George has no interest in running for any office he wouldn't do that to himself or his family.
They are probably adding on for when they are there , not to move there permanently.

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
You're probably right about them adding on for when they're there to visit, rather than making it a permanent base. Amal still has her family in the UK and does a lot of work there. - and so does he.
The funicular is a bit over the top, if true, but how would the neighbors know what they were building? After all, one neighbor knows him so well ( ) that she has him running for office - which he has said many times he would never do - especially after Nick had such a rough time when he ran in 2004.

The funicular could be for delivery's and something fun for the kids. I might be wrong but it looks like the new construction is above the main estate.

Well, it does look like a pretty extensive build and putting in a small railroad probably required special permits. I was also thinking ... George has said that his property backs onto a park. I wonder if any of the building he's doing extends into parkland. That could require extra permits or financial commitments.

Pretty extravagant stuff being built here. A funicular?
The DailyFail takes one sarcastic comment from George about running for President and claims that he has always had interest in public office. Nooooo. He has not and he has said so repeatedly. George already had a guest house on the property. And the main house is pretty spacious.
I’m a bit surprised by this extensive add on. But as usual we don’t know all the facts. But it seems clear that George plans on using this house pretty extensively in the future for the family.

I don't think the house is that big. Not for them and all the people they now have to have. It had six bedrooms. that is probably not enough with the kids room play room nursery and nannies rooms. I wonder if the guest house isn't now used as a office for Amal. As that is where she did an interview right after they married.

All the new construction makes me think that G&A are planning to make this a more permanent home sometime in the near future...maybe when the twins start school. Personally, I'd stay in the UK for that, but I'm sure they'll ensure the best education for them.

I don't know about permanent but I do think they want it to be more comfortable and to make it fit their life now with the kids.
I do remember when the twins were born George talking about them going to school in both England and America.

Seems to me, Amal learned of Katie's new home and subsequent renovations--- green with envy, she demanded George renovate Studio City in order to retain her title of Style Queen of all things.

PP - I think you're right...and I'll bet that Katie will take that title away from her with ease - even without all the help of designers, architects and boatloads of money! Taste has to enter into it somewhere!

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
According to the reports he put in his first planning application in 2018....and apart from anything else it will increase the value of the property no end. I beleive he has always said he would prefer investment in land to stocks any old day. Amal has always called the house low-key, but with growing children I can imagine the number of bedrooms might be less than ideal. They're just adding to what used to be his play area!
Katie should send her portfolio to the girl who used to work at Soho House! They tell me there's loads of money in interior design...

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
PAN- No snark intended (well...maybe a little) but a 6 bedroom house seems to me to be a fair fit for a family of four. It still leaves 2 bedrooms for guests or a nanny. Playrooms, etc. can be accommodated in other buildings on the property, if necessary.
I guess growing up in a neighborhood where most families of 3,4 or 5 people shared a one bedroom apartment has made me a bit unsympathetic to the housing problems of the uber-rich.

Oh, I get it, Lizzy! 'Walk-in closets' here in this house are known as bedrooms!
But that's probably something they're aware of too, given that George has ended up sleeping in his lttle girl's bed on occasion and in other peoples closets in LA! And Amal lived above Beirut in a fortified guards station for a couple of years and spent weeks touring Yazidi refugee tents.
But I imagine that if they want to be there for say a month + and have numerous visitors
and you have the money, it makes sense. To be honest I think they'd be happy having the childrens playroom etc under the same roof as them for obvious reasons

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
I think since these plans have been in the works since 2018 , they have taken their time lived in the house and decided what they need to add. Both of their other homes are much bigger than this one.
It's George he has the money to buy something else , but chose to keep this house and make it work for them which
is a good thing and shows how much they love the existing estate.
I think the play house may be something like a tree house that kids have. I think it gets them out of the main house
and gives them somewhere else to have fun. This house doesn't seem to have a lot of open grounds , lots of trees for
privacy. From the tour there is a tennis court and large pool area with jacuzzi tub.
If I remember correctly I read that the guest house had one bedroom. We have seen bits of the living room in there when Amal did her interview.
If they are building a staff house it may be to give the nannies their own space and privacy. We have heard about the tight security around them when
George was filming and also the security build at the English home. Some of the changes may also have to do with more security. Which they obviously
aren't going to announce.

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
Considering that they don't spend all their time at any one of their homes, I got to wondering what happens to their staff when they're not in residence. How many, if any, are full time residents? How many are only there when the Clooneys are there? Who travels with them? Who's on retainer to show up whenever the family's in town?
I know we don't know all the answers. Obviously the nanny travels with them, and I think their cook might, too. As for the rest....?
(PAN - He slept in the closet (I think it was Tom's) when he first got to LA and couldn't afford a place of his own. Times have certainly changed for him! )

He's always had the guest house - it used to be that one of his friends used to live there (can't remember which one). He also had a house for Angel nearby at one point too, didn't he? I think he didn't like having live-in help.
I was wondering if that land is actually his, but if the Daily Fail have posted the plans, then they must be pretty sure they were submitted by George.

Well, as it happens, I'm having a canal put in (need somewhere to park my cruise ship) and I'm given to understand that the gold-plated suspension bridge above my new canyon will be the largest in the world, but I'm having difficulty finding a place for the flamingo lake with wave machine. Think the indoor ski park will have to be sacrificed. George Clooney and his wife Amal have reportedly forked out £90k on a playhouse for their two-year-old twins Ella and Alexander.
Built to emulate the family's main home, the swanky outhouse will feature two floors and include a fully functioning kitchen and bathroom, complete with running water.
The mini pad also allegedly features a zip-wire and a life-sized toy giraffe for the kids to ride on.

What's more, the actor and his human rights barrister wife are said to have enlisted Barbara Butler - a playhouse specialist - as well as Michael S Smith, who redesigned the Oval Office during Barack Obama’s presidency in 2010.
George and Amal are spending nearly £1m on renovations to their mansion in California currently, including a new pool house and living quarters for their staff.
The Sun reports that a source close to the pair said: 'It is extravagant but George and Amal want the best. They are also adamant the kids are appreciative and don’t take anything for granted.'

She previously donated 20,000 meal replacement drinks to New York City healthcare workers.
Also on Wednesday, Halsey donated 100,000 masks to medical professionals amid the coronavirus pandemic.

In a message posted to social media, the 25-year-old singer explained: 'Every single day I am in awe of the medical workers on the frontlines. Their determination, selflessness and empathy is the single greatest example of our capacity to love and survive as humans. I am beyond privileged to be self isolating in my home, without the fear and obligation of essential work employment.
'Without a sick family member to care for. A child to feed. A financial crisis to navigate. So I tried to find a real way to make a difference.'
Rihanna has also donated $5 million to frontline healthcare workers and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) to the state.
Meanwhile Lady Gaga will be curating a World Health Organization benefit concert schedule for April 18, and she's already helped the Global Citizen organization raise $35 million for PPE.
Rappers Jay-Z and Meek Mill have also helped out inmates packed in prisons and vulnerable to COVID-19 with a donation of 100,000 surgical masks for prisons.

Frontlines: The remaining $300,000 will be split among the Lebanese Food Bank, the Lombardo region of Italy and the UK's National Health Service (NHS); shown in October

That is a cool gift and the giraffe is Amals favorite animal. I'm guessing the kids love them too.

Oh, I'm so hoping this turns out not to be true. These kids are turning into the typical spoiled Hollywood children that I'm sure George would never have wanted. Doesn't he remember his own childhood? You can't make a child be grateful for things - unless the child doesn't have many things and then they become appreciative whenever they get something new.

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
Well, I have a feeling it may be partly true. The original house that he has there - with the land that he always loves - was a bachelor pad really and not especially huge.
I think that this has been built as a birthday present for two three year olds who were due to be there for their third birthday - it's probably also for the likes of the Baron Cohens children, the Krasinskis, etc. Most of it seems to be for staff. Whatever he does as far as land is concerned is always an investment - and at least there will be enough for the children there to keep them occupied if they don't end up in nursery during their visits
.......and Wendy Houses seem to be the norm, don't they?
I'm guessing Obama's bloke is probably doing stuff for the main house too...just like the Soho House interior designer and James Cordon's wife did Sonning...

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
Just because he grew up poor doesn't mean he has forgotten his child hood. Also George is the type of man who wants his family to have the best of everything. So big play house is for their family and friends who will be there with them. It gives the kids somewhere to go and get out of the main house.
I don't think that things make you spoiled it is how you are treated if you are allowed to be full of your self and not taught to be grateful . I don't see George and Amal ever letting that happen .
The estate is not huge, the house is actually the smallest of all of them. Now with the kids nannies and whom ever else they have with them it is too small for them.

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
But this isn't a wendy house or playhouse as we may have had as children. It's a fully designer-decorated two-storey mini-home complete with working kitchen and bathroom that's cost just under £100,000 to build. Does that sound normal? Am I really the only one here who thinks that's an extravagance?
His home in LA isn't small - it's just small by billionaire standards - but for a family of four . . . It's got seven bedrooms, god knows how many reception rooms, a pool, tennis court, gardens, guest house plus the new staff buildings he's having put in. I don't accept that this playhouse is a necessity because the children would have nowhere to play otherwise.

Mm, see what you mean, Katie - just looked up the place on line - tho it turns out to be the smallest property of the lot! (Had no idea that l'Oleandra had 25 bedrooms - and that's one of four or five villas on the plot that he owns - but do remember the video of him showing Diane Sawyer around and him saying that he didn't want to sleep in the biggest bedroom)

Could it be that having so much money they don't see this as overkill? After all, it's just the kind of thing other uber-rich celebs do with their money.

I do think security may influence every decision that they make about the children too - and I'm not sure that it's 100,000 just for a wendy house type thing. After all this is the Daily Mail!
It is going to be interesting to see what their decisions will be about schools, isn't it? We may never know

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
I think what people don't understand about George is he is a taurus they like only the best nothing cheap will do for them
comfort in everything is important to them. Especially once they are financially successful. Him spending the money he has earned on things is how he lives. The homes weren't cheap and the money he spends on them is not cheap they are designed for his and now his families pleasure and comfort. Not to mention for his friends to enjoy as well.
They have lived in the house and know what they need and want and are getting it done.
We all give our kids the best we can some more than others and to me there is nothing wrong with that.
It is what you teach them and show them that makes them who they are caring and kind.
I have no doubt that no matter what their kids have , they will be taught to be grateful , respectful and to give back.
This is after all George and Amal clooney. These little apples will not go far from that tree or be allowed to.
The fail is known to get things wrong and this could be a play house but also any thing else we have no way of knowing unless George announces it.

The George from Kentucky raised by Nick and Nina is still there. He has more money but he is still the same caring
thoughtful child they raised.

I think it might be a while until we find out what is actually planned for the site. California is still in lockdown and will be for the near future, so I doubt any work is being done on the projec.
PAN - I don't think his values have changed much, but I do think his perspective has changed. No matter how well meaning you are, a millionaire doesn't see the world the same way as a nine-to-five wage slave.

Re: George Clooney renovates his home in LA - adding annex, funicular and playhouse
It’s hard to believe the DF or the Sun when it comes to factual reporting. That said if it’s true I’m not keen on the whole funicular, two-story playhouse arrangement for their kids. Sounds like some small scale amusement park. But again we probably don’t have all the facts. I’m not going to judge George and Amal’s decisions when it comes to how they raise their kids. That's their business. I trust George. He’s always shown respect, courtesy and caring for others. He’s a very giving person. I can’t imagine that he and Amal won’t be instilling those same values in their kids.

Did you note the $88,000 + used playhouse that the owner is selling for the low, low price of only $35,000? It's a steal!

No, Katie, you are not the only one who thinks this is an extravagance. Actually, I see it as a waste. This is not a mere indulgence of the kids because they love them and want them to have the best. It's right up there with Barron tRump having an entire floor of the family's gilded penthouse to himself.
Now, here's my question. Who the eff grows up to specialize in designing PLAYHOUSE interiors? Is that seriously a thing?
