COMIC Dave McSavage has likened working with George Clooney to wearing “a comfy cardigan”.
The Savage Eye star has spoken for the first time about being directed by the Hollywood superstar in the new television mini-series Catch 22, which has been adapted from Joseph Heller’s novel.

Dave told the Irish Sun: “I play an American military investigator interrogating Kyle Chandler. What’s gas was I was being directed by George Clooney.
“On set you would think someone as famous as George would be full of himself but he’s not. He was jovial, cracking jokes, and behaved a lot like the character he played in that film Gravity. George is incredibly chilled out to work with, and hang out with.
“In fact if George was a big cardigan, you would wear it all the time, because it was so comfy.”
Just a few months ago Dave was penniless in Dublin but could now be heading for more roles on American TV after Ocean’s Eleven star, George cast him in the Catch 22 series after seeing his RTE Savage Eye series.

But Dave ditched his Dublin accent to play the mid-west air investigator.
Dave said: “It was a new thing doing an American but I was more worried about the heat. as it was really hot on this air force base where we were shooting in Italy.”
Catch 22 tells the story of a US Air Force bombardier who wants to fly enough missions to go home from World War II but finds air force bosses adding on even more missions.
Meanwhile Dave’s cousin, Late Late host Ryan Tubridy has spoken of his delight at Dave’s big break.

Clooney hired ‘fresh faces’ for the TV mini-series
He said: “It’s got absolutely nothing to do with our blood relationship. The Savage Eye was one of my favourite TV shows. It was very funny, very clever and very dark, It makes perfect sense that Dave would be cast in Catch 22.”
The RTE star is one of the “fresh faces” hired by Clooney, who producers say fell in love with early scripts of the Catch 22 show, first made into a movie in 1970 starring Alan Alda.
Paramount TV boss Amy Powell told the Hollywood Reporter said: “He (George) had incredible instincts on the material. He talked about how he wanted to direct, what locations could be used and how he wanted to cast fresh faces to play the show’s young soldiers. It was a love fest.”

George has been at the helm of the production in Sardinia since film started accompanied by his wife Amal and their ten-month-old twins Alexander and Ella.
Channel 4 are expected to screen the new Catch 22AL series next year in Ireland and the UK.
Starting as a street stand-up, then fronting his Savage Eye TV series, Dave’s acting abilities first overshadowed his talent for comedy after he was first cast in John Michael McDonagh’s film Calvary opposite Brendan Gleeson.
