The lawyer's work has allowed her to take high profile cases in defense of Human Rights in countries like Turkey and Iraq.
Actor George Clooney's wife is on the list of nominees to win the 2017 Nobel Peace Prize. A few days ago, the lawyer launched an international investigation into the crimes perpetrated by the Islamic State. In doing so, the United Nations will listen to the victims of the EI and will judge all war crimes and crimes against humanity.

Last year, Amal accompanied Nadia Murad, a survivor of the Islamic State, who became ambassador to the United Nations. Nadia was one of thousands of Yazid women who were abducted and exploited as sex slaves by militants of the jihadist group.

The lawyer will compete with renowned figures from around the world such as European diplomacy chief Federica Mogherini or Iranian Foreign Minister Mohamad Javad Zarif.

The name of the winner will be announced on October 6 in Stockholm, Sweden.

In the FAQs they describe the nomination and selection process and say that they themselves never publish a list of the nominees.

If it's true, it's certainly terrific. And as I wrote already, I do remember mentions about other nobel prize nominees. I just wanted to say that this doesn't seem to be an official mentioning.

From what they say on their homepage, the names of the nominees would have to come from the people who nominated them or maybe from one of the people who does research for the Nobel committee.

I wonder who nominated Amal. George doesn't seem to fit the qualifications for nominator so I guess it wasn't him.

Her mom, dad, one of George's cronies, Obama, etc.

My guess is someone in the legal field, or one of her clients.

They will write anything to get attention for their story.

PAN - Do you think it's possible her law office would have nominated her? I know she's not a senior member of the firm and there are others working in the same field who have seniority over her, but she has brought them a lot of publicity - and probably a LOT of new business.

I very much doubt it Lizzy. It would smack far too much of nepotism.

I think Nadia Murad is also nominated as too are the White Helmets though tragically many of them were targeted and killed in Syria

PAN - It seems that most nominators must be members of some international or professional organization, that's why I thought maybe they nominated her. I guess it could be anybody she's worked with on the international scene. Still curious.
