Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
Thanks, PAN. You're right, it is a great interview. I found his take on Hilary especially interesting. Sounds like he was never a whole-hearted believer, but rather a loyal party supporter.
WHY doesn't he have a star? I thought he did. Way2Old, how is it possible he doesn't have a star? Ho can he get one?

From what I know, he's always refused the star. They've asked him several times, but he has always said no; you also have to pay for it.
I really enjoyed the interview. I love when he talks about politics, he's so informed and a pleasure to listen to (or read, in this case).

Anyone can nominate a star for the walk of fame. The star has to agree to it also whoever does the nominating
has to agree to pay the $40,000 it costs to install and maintain the star.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce chooses who will be awarded a star.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
George is saying what a lot of people thought to be honest but it will be portrayed as an attack on her, I'm afraid.
I always thought that it had so much to do with her being a woman too as well as some previous history, and he touches on that I think.
Part of me wonders if the US will ever elect a woman to be honest.
Anyway the Daily Mail have got it down and created aheadline that looks a lot like betrayal:

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
George must have done something to piss off the DM this week. Maybe they want G&A back in the UK so they can renew their supply of drone photos from Sonning. Probably hoping to catch a shot of the twins - which they can't do if the family is in LA or NYC.
George didn't say Hillary wasn't qualified to be in the White House. He said she didn't campaign well and that the US still hasn't grown up enough to elect a woman president. Unfortunately both things are true.

George Clooney, who supported Hillary Clinton amid the 2016 presidential campaign and once hosted a fundraiser for her, said he believes she wasn't fit for the White House.
The A-list actor and new father, 56, spoke during a wide-ranging interview with the Daily Beast revealing that while he believes the Democratic nominee was 'qualified for the job,' she wasn't a skilled communicator like some of her counterparts.
'Being qualified for the job does not necessarily mean you're the right person to be president,' Clooney said in the interview.
'Here's what I mean ... She was more qualified than even her husband was when he was elected president, but she's not as good at communicating things. That's simply true.
'When she got up and gave a speech, it didn't soar. Now, that doesn't mean that she wouldn't have done a great job as president, and I supported her because by the time we did the fundraiser the primary was over at that point and it was time to get on with picking someone to move forward, and she was the right person to side with.'

The Academy Award-winning filmmaker and humanitarian had several liberal acquaintances who also believed Clinton faced a 'harder uphill battle' against Trump.
'It was frustrating because I never saw her elevate her game. I saw it. And I had a lot of liberal friends who were like, 'She's not good at this.' And I see that, and I understand it. I also think, though, that if it was a guy it wouldn't have been so polarizing.
'I think that she wasn't particularly good at articulating the things that she wanted to do, and unfortunately we live at a time right now where articulating what you want to do is more potent in the electorate than the other way around, obviously, when Trump only said he was going to 'Make America Great Again,' said Clooney.

During the discussion with the Daily Beast, the actor touched on other topics like his directing work for the 2017 crime comedy film, 'Suburbicon' and issues surrounding his home state of Kentucky following the Charlottesville riots last month.
Also this week, a worse for wear Clooney admitted to the Daily Mail he cries 'four times a day' after welcoming twins with wife Amal back in June.
The 'O Brother, Where Art Thou' actor shared the comments while he was spotted leaving a business meeting in Los Angeles.
'They don't cry,' Clooney said proudly. 'I cry more than they do. I cry four times a day right now, because I'm so tired.'
He then joked: 'Hey, remember back when you were single, before you didn't have to worry about keeping people alive? Wasn't that great?'

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
Really an honest and smart interview. I too love to hear George talk politics. He really gets it. He doesn't mince words does he?!
What he said about Hillary is not far off from what other Democrats have said of her. George didn't "turn on Clinton". Even Joe Biden has criticized the way she handled her campaign. I don't think Hillary will be upset with what George said. She's tough. She's had to take a lot of flak on how she ran. I think George was thoughtful in his criticism. And I agree that being a woman was a negative to some extent. But I also think that whoever had run as the Democrat candidate would have been drowned out by Trump.

Georgie.. stop talking out of both sides of your mouth. The general public isn't as stupid as you think.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
I think George is saying what most others have said and thought. She was the candidate that was most qualified that is why he supported her. There was no other choice she simply didn't have what it takes to win. And yes her being a woman was a major problem for a lot
of the men in this country.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
I don't think what George said was a criticism as much as it was an analysis of her campaign style. In a normal election campaign she would have been fine, but this election was anything but normal.
If people are looking for someone to blame there are plenty of candidates out there - from Comey's last minute statements and the media's coverage of Trump's every brain fart - to the detriment of all the other candidates, not just Hillary - to Bernie's followers who went home pouting and refused to back her, not to mention Russia's interference and, of course, the misogynists who would never vote for a woman.
IMO the main reason Trump won was that the media gave up responsible reporting in order to cover the Trump circus and get ratings and boost circulation, Rubbernecking at a train wreck.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
Without getting into the voters' heads we won't ever know what was the factor that put Trump over the top. There were a multitude of factors. IMO even if Bernie had been the nominee he wouldn't have won against Trump. Bernie on some levels was just as divisive. And his stance on some issues were too far left for the country. George was not a fan of Bernie's either. I think if Joe Biden had decided to run George would have endorsed him over Hillary.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
He held the fundraiser as a duty and loyalty to his party not because he fully believed she could win. The time when he thought Trump couldn't win was during the primary elections for both parties maybe he thought Republican Party wouldn't nominate Trump. That's a different story.

Sevens - Just to clarify:it seems we don't have the same relationship to our political parties as you seem to have to yours. If we don't like our party's candidate it is not our "duty" to support them, it's our choice.
If George didn't think Hillary had a chance to win - or if he didn't think she could do the job - he didn't have to do anything to fund her campaign. He could have supported Bernie or Biden or Donald Duck. His choice. If we support a candidate we don't like it's because we dislike the other party's candidate even more.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
Just read the interview. As has been clarified already, George's criticism was of Clinton as a candidate, not a potential President. But I think even he oversimplified. Remember, neither Bush communicated very well, or had any (reasonably workable) ideas, and they both got elected.
Hillary Clinton lost because (1) she had the electronic and intelligence apparatus of a hostile nation working against her; (2) her opponent was a traitor willing to accept (as a best case scenario -- the worst being he initiated it) that help to steal the election; (3) Republican gerrymandering of voting districts finally reached critical mass and made it nearly impossible for any Democrat to win via the electoral college system; (4) the visceral and unexplained hatred of the Clintons, particularly the too-smart female one, and the knee-jerk racist reaction to go against anything or anyone the Obamas endorsed; and (5) as LizzyNY pointed out, the press failed miserably in its duty to cover the candidates responsibly.
I think Hillary miscalculated several things, and didn't capitalize on others, but in a long campaign, that's expected. Without probably any two of the above, she still might have won.

It's irritating how the right-leaning media are spinning George's comments in this interview. Fox news claims he "slams" Hillary's failed campaign. No, he analyzed it and commented on why, in his opinion, it failed. No hysterics, no ranting and raving. Just an intelligent adult giving a thoughtful opinion - neither of which Fox news would recognize if it smacked them in the face.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
I've also read several articles about George's interview, most of them misquoted them. But that's not unusual; after he'd said that he cries four times a day die to tiredness, I read quite a few articles claiming that he feels overextended, too old to become a father, that he wants to run away from his huge responsibility as a husband and father after having been a bachelor for such a long time etc.
So that's the same with this interview: all the medias try to find the essence they want to tell their readers - and whoever believes it without checking für original interview (which sometimes is difficult to understand due to language barriers, if you just remember the I George did with the French tv at first before they published the original interview), is just thoughtless IMO...

Carol, it is thoughtless, irresponsible and sometimes reckless. You're right that the multitude of media outlets take quotes out of context and try to fashion their stories to fit their audience. The headlines alone are click bait. That's the way it is sadly.
What BS for Fox News to claim we are the least racist country. But hey they've got their audience of zombie followers who will go to their grave thinking that 'America is the shining city upon a hill'. No ...... we've got a long way to go people!

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
Way2Old - I am a Hillary fan, and while I agree you don't kick a man when he's down, I'm not sure that she is. Maybe in the first weeks after the election, while we were all in shock, it might have been unfair to discuss why she failed (which plenty of pundits did - at least George waited a few months!) but in the time since then she's obviously been analyzing why she failed. The result is her book.
The fact that she's actively promoting the book, which entails discussing what went wrong with the campaign, tells me that she's ready to talk about it. I don't think George said anything she hasn't thought herself.

Re: Daily Beast interview with George on 'Suburbicon'
George's criticism of Hillary did not come across to me as thoughtless or insensitive. I thought his comments were measured and constructive criticism. I don't think he was disrespectful of Hillary and I don't think she would have taken it as such. And everything he said has already been said many times over from many Democratic politicians, supporters and even a few from her campaign staff. And most of all Hillary does fault herself to some extent and has come to terms with the shortcomings of her campaign run. As Lizzy said Hillary bears this out in her book 'What Happened'.
