Surely Max belongs in the friends and family section.

George Clooney’s Pig
George Clooney’s longest relationship ever might have been with a pig. The actor owned Max, a 300-pound pig, for 18 years until the he died in 2006. “He was as old a pig as the vets had ever seen,” Clooney told People magazine. The bachelor was so close to Max that he sometimes allowed him to sleep in his bed and accompany him to interviews. His pet was so irreplaceable that when asked if he would get another pig, Clooney replied, “No, I think Max covered all my pig needs.”

Well at least the pig didn't yell at him or throw around false rumors.
I would definitely choose the pig over her. LOL

Best of friends... An artist's impression of George and the late Max
Condolences to George Clooney, whose pet pot-bellied pig, Max, has gone to porcine paradise at the age of 18. This is not a bad age for a pig. They can live for up to 25 years, but most pigs only get to be around for that long when a jar of frankfurters falls down the back of the cupboard.
Max not only had a good innings, he led a life of comfort and privilege befitting a Hollywood pet. George and Max have been described as "inseparable" by the celebrity press - which is surely just porkies. But Max was often seen rooting around on set while Clooney was filming and was allowed in the mega-star's bedroom. Max has been blamed for bringing at least two of Clooney's relationships to an end (the model Celine Balitran apparently got the wrong answer when she issued an "It's me or the pig" ultimatum). Clooney even took Max on a trip in John Travolta's private jet.
This, then, was one happy hog. Still, the end of what Clooney once described as "my longest relationship to date" is bound to be a sad moment in the actor's charmed life, particularly as it comes only months after the death of his bulldog, Bud.
Clooney told USA Today that he has no plans to replace Max, saying, "I think Max covered all my pig needs." Personally, I wouldn't have put Clooney down as a pig man in the first place. The elegant weimaraner, perhaps, would suit, or maybe a Burmese cat.
Novelty pets, I have long suspected, are sometimes acquired to mask a personality deficit - a bit like Homer Simpson socks. If your conversation is a little lacklustre, you could always try breeding giant cockroaches, for instance. No one will notice that you are dull if they think you are eccentric. One automatically assumes that a pet pig owner is a jolly sort of person - which is why pigs are the perfect pets for people who wish to disguise their miserable disposition. Pets can deflect attention away from our flaws.
This theory clearly does not apply in Clooney's case. He is, after all, suave, sophisticated, successful and, if countless polls are to be believed, the sexiest man to have walked the earth, ever. So what's the story with the pig? Pigs fall somewhat short of the aesthetic standards Clooney has set, but they are highly intelligent, entertaining animals. In any case, if you're George Clooney, you don't need a pet to make a statement about yourself. Perhaps he just thought a pig would be fun.

Clooney with Max in 1989
Max, the nearly 300-lb. potbellied pig who lived with George Clooney in the actor's Hollywood Hills home, has died. He had lived with Clooney for 18 years and had suffered from arthritis and partial blindness.
"He just died, like an hour ago," PEOPLE's Sexiest Man Alive, 45, tells USA Today.
"He was as old a pig as the vets had ever seen. I was really surprised, because he's been a big part of my life," says Clooney, who even sometimes shared the same bed with his pet.
The actor was out of town promoting his latest film, The Good German, when Max died.
In January 2005 there were premature reports that Max had gone to hog heaven. At the time, Clooney issued a denial.
"It has been a bad year for my pets," Clooney tells the newspaper. "I had a bulldog that died this year, too. It's strange how animals become a big part of your family. They really become a big issue with you."
The pig, in fact, was sometimes featured in interviews with Clooney, who called him "Max, the star."
As for finding a successor, "No," Clooney insists. "I think Max covered all my pig needs."

From Hollyscoop
From Pigs to Wolves: Celebrity Weird Pets
October 22, 2011 by: MADISON VANDERBERG
From naming their kids weird things like Apple and Bronx and believing in aliens, I mean, scientology...Celebrities are a weird group of individuals. Another strange habit of the rich and famous is adopting very bizarre pets. From pet pigs that seem more like a domestic partner to chickens that double as handbags, these are the stars with the weirdest pets.
George Clooney: Clooney may not settling down with a woman anytime soon, but he does have a special someone in his life. His pet pig. Okay the pig died in 2006, but Clooney had that pet pig Max from 1987 to 2006, making it the longest relationship of Clooney's life. When asked if Clooney would get another pig, the actor once said, "No. I think Max covered all my pig needs." When asked if Clooney would ever get married, the actor said, "No. I think Max covered all my marital needs." I made up that second quote.

Maybe because he had no agenda, never "asked" or demanded anything. Just as dogs and cats don't want much from their owners, I would imagine Max didn't either. He gave love and companionship with no strings attached. Pets, like friends inspire loyalty and love. George is truly caring and loving with his extended family and best friends.

Max George's beloved pet pig
I think it's about time that Max (rest his soul), should have his own tribute to being one of George's pets. He was still loved and adored by George, lived a happy life. Was he a rescue pig? What's his history?
Anyone who has "tails" to tell, or (sausage) links to other stories, should post here!
I jest, but I don't know an awful lot about Max, the love story, can you fill in the gaps?..........

Fluffy.....did you read anywhere if George taught Max how to fly? Or did Max have his own special flying abilities?
It is a Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky thing....like the local obsession with catching Leprechauns. PIGS FLYING seems to go into the same category.
Certainly, we have all heard the sarcastic phrase implying things will only get better when PIGS START FLYING. PIGS FLYING=MIRACLES/GOOD FORTUNE/WINNING THE LOTTERY/FINDING THE POT OF GOLD, ETC...
There is a FLYING PIG Marathon celebration in Cincinnati this coming weekend which coincides with George's birthday weekend. I think I will have my camera handy.....

Yes, at Sawyer Point on the Ohio River, there are four winged-pig statues with their front legs raised heavenward to commemorate Porkopolis (in the 1880's, Cincinnati had a huge pork industry, hence, it was nicknamed "Porkopolis.)"
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]
This is not one of the flying pigs that you find at the entrance of Sawyer Point Park, but one of the many pigs that people bought and decorated any way they wished. This pig is decorated to represent "Cincinnatus," a Roman statesman, whom Cincinnati is named after. Cincinnati has been nicknamed, "The City of Seven Hills," because of its hilly terrain, just like Rome is the City of Seven Hills.

Thanks, mel!
Suddenly now the link worked and I could open it.
My uncle and aunt used to have pigs at tgeir farm, and since I know how big pigs are I always thought Max was a mini pig, I wouldn't want to have such a big pig in my house (well, I never thought of pigs as pets anyway, because when you grow up in a village and all your relatives are farmers, you don't see animals as pets anyway. You have dogs as watchdogs or sheepdogs or for hunting, and you keep cats for catching mice, but not as pets.)
But Max really is a big pig! Wow!
