Do you remember what I wrote in the 'September Chit Chat'?
My choir wanted to help a specific refugee project and made a concert to collect money for an Afghan family. The father had worked for the NATO, and when the Taliban got into power, they had to leave the country because he was an enemy of tge state. They first went to India (their neighboring country), where their eldest daughter was hijacked and raped multiple times before her family found her after weeks. Refugees have no rights there, so they returned to Afghanistan and were hidden by friends. The eldest daughter was traumatized, so they decided to leave the country. They didn't have enough money to pay for the whole family to escape to Europe, so just the father and this daughter left. Now they have the right to stay in Germany and the rest of the family is allowed to come to Germany as well.
So we helped to collect money for the travel fees of the family.

Today the family was united again - after more than two years.
One happy end - millions of families are divided...

Thanks carolhathaway for sharing this story with us. It is wonderful what your church has done to give this family a new start in life.

"One happy end-millions of families divided." So true. Hopefully many more refugee families are being similarly helped and reunited by communities in the U.S., Canada and Europe.

Just had to say we've had an early Christmas present on tv this last week: a George-fest! One channel ran a couple of the Ocean's movies, The American was on the other day and so was Out of Sight, One Fine Day was on yesterday and The Peacemaker was just on this afternoon. Best way on earth to forget about all our problems and the political mess! I just hope they keep it up. There are still a lot of George's movies they could play and I, for one, would watch them all. Very Happy

old George movies are shown here occasionally, but not as 'concentrated' as you seem to have tgem at the moment. They sometimes show the Oceans trilogy in two or three days.

But I've got all of them on DVD so I'm able to run my own George marathon cheers

which also has the advantage that I can watch them in English, not synchronized (we've talked about that before, in Germany all movies are synchronized Rolling Eyes

).

Terrific carolhathaway! I have most of them on DVD too but I have to find a lazy, rainy or snowy day for a good excuse to be a lounge lizard and watch one after another ... with a huge tub of popcorn bounce

Despite his many medical issues, especially a stroke, Douglas has made it to 100! Quite an accomplishment. Yahoo wrote that "He might very well be immortal."

My fave movie of his is "Strangers When We Meet." I'm sure not many remember this one. It was a love story with Kim Novak ... not his usual touch guy role.

ladybug - IMHO, not happening. He might drop by as a guest if he had a project to push but I don't think he'd guest host. That spot is for guys trying to get where George already is - A-list superstar. He doesn't need it.

I agree with you. I've seen him as a guest on the show. I know he is an A-list superstar and does not need the exposure. It would be just because... and a joy to see.
