Hollywood's most famous couple is calling it quits.

Angelina Jolie has filed for divorce from Brad Pitt, a lawyer for the actress told the Associated Press.

According to court documents obtained by TMZ, Jolie filed for divorce from Pitt on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences.

The gossip site reports Jolie is asking for physical custody of the couple's six children and asking the judge to grant Pitt visitation rights.

Pitt and Jolie married in August 2014, ten years after they first got together.

The pair infamously got together on the set of their movie "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" while Pitt was married to actress Jennifer Aniston.

Reps for Pitt and Jolie did not immediately return FOX411's request for comment

That's just sad. There's so many rumours going around too, it won't be easy for Brad and Angelina, and especially for the kids.

True , the rumors are out of control,  this is sad. Hopefully, they will work out the terms for the sake of the children.

I felt bad for George having to address this at the UN meeting, he covered his surprise so well. 

DailyFail are having a field day with the rumours and gossip.

I don't even think Brad knew this was coming. His reaction sounded like shock he was deeply saddened by this.

The rumors are out of control.

I just googled George's name and found about 60 articles in different languages about his reaction on Brad and Angelina's divorce - within the last hour. They really seem to enjoy that they were able to surprise him with this news...

Anyway, I also found a tweed by Piers Morgan who blames Trump for that. I found it funny since I read some reactions in Germany blaming Angela Merkel for it. 

It's not often that George is almost at a loss for words. He did seem to be taken totally off guard and I did feel bad for him grappling with what to say. An uncomfortable moment for him.

All the rumors coming out on what broke up the marriage are just crazy. Yep, the DailyFail is doing a great job of leading the rumor mill.

and the rumors are what makes it even worse. So - no matter if Brad and Angelina will read it - it's about them and their family, and the medias will repost it any time they might be seen in public, are about to make a new movie or just because there are no news.
I remember that one of our best singer/songwriters in Germany lost both, his wife and his brother to cancer within two days (actually quite similar to Celine Dion this year) several years ago and decided to move to London because he was quite unknown there. And he wanted to protect his kids from paps who would cath them laughing and joking around although they had lost their mother and uncle and should never laugh or even smile again...

By the way: His neighbor in London was Anton Corbijn, and he made him compose the music for 'The American'...

carolhathaway, there is no upside to having a couple's divorce splashed across the media. Kids in divorce unfortunately are the ones usually most affected. I don't know how Brad and Angie's kids will be protected from all this hoopla in addition to coming to terms with their parents' breakup. It's just sad for all of them.

This mornings story is really bad , I hope it's not true.

I just read what was suspected. I hope it's not true, but if it is, I really understand why Angelina decided to divorce...

It seems like a third party reported it. There should be a few witnesses as it happened on a private plane, right? I feel so bad for the children.

Marion Cotillard put out a statement denying any involvement with Brad. It was emphatic and I loved this line in her statement "And to all the media and the haters who are quick to pass judgment, I sincerely wish you a swift recovery."

What is sad and ugly in a way is that the newsstand media has been spinning Brad/Angie breakup rumors for years ... not just in the last few weeks or months. So if you report on it often enoughthe odds will work in your favor and it will finally come true. Now they can pat themselves on their backs and claim journalistic job well done.

Yes, these rumors were written for ages, as for other couples we know... (who maybe get a little rest now because for the next weeks the gossip magazines will be filled with articles about Brad and Angelina's divorce). And if they don't divorce, well, of course these unnamed sources always tell the truth, but the couple then decided not to split, to give their marriage a second chance .

Donnamarie - It is pretty tacky - but it's pretty funny, too. It's just too soon - way too soon. Who knows? They may work things out and get back together again. After all, the story's only two days old.

Well now they are saying there is a video of what happened and it shows brad never touched the kid.
This is horrible all the rumors there has to have been a better way to handle this.

The rumors are ridiculous.  When I first heard about the reasons why Angie filed for divorce I was surprised she wanted sole physical custody of the children ... not joint custody.  That's before I heard about this incident on the plane.  It's just hard at this point to figure out how much his use of pot and alcohol or his relationship with his kids factored into their breakup.  It's none of our business obviously but now all these stories are out there for the public to sift through and we're all wondering what's true and what's not.

I hope the two of them can work through this horrible situation in private and quietly without having their lives together splashed all over the tabloids.
