This young woman has gone through so much it just horrible. Her sharing her story can help those who have been through it . I hope that seeing her strength will give others strength. I also hope and pray that those with power to do something will work harder to stop these horrible crimes.

I was really impressed by Amal's speech, and Nadia's fate is just beyond my imagination.

One thought just came to my mind:
When women and girls are raped countless times during a long period of time, how many of them will have gotten pregnant and gave birth to children? What happened to the mothers and the children?
Are they treated as they should be? I can't imagine that, because you have to dehumanize people so those who use them, are unhibited. The Nazis were quite good at that...
What happens to the babies (if they and their mothers survived the birth)? Who looks after them when their mothers are raped? What happens to them when their mothers are sold? What if some ill-minded ISIS fighter / supporter decides to rape the child?Will their mothers be able to love them? Without thinking how they were expecting? WHICH PERSPECTIVE WILL THEY HAVE?

Amal to much centre and dressed up for this it look too much she present her pretty self to much.It dielute what is purpose. Purpose is lost to many. Not well presented and handle bad.

Amal was speaking that is part of her job. I don't think what she wears makes a difference what she had to say was what people were interested in. This is not and never has been about what Amal  wears.

I believe all the people there heard Nadia's story so nothing was lost to them.
The people who want to complain about what Amal wore are the one's who the topic was lost on. Nadia's story is what is most important here not Amal's clothing , that is what should be discussed.

I wonder if her style blog and all the articles on this believe it's NOT about what Amal wears?  When the titles state what she's wearing rather than writing about Nadia, we know what the priority is.

that always disturbs me, but that's the nagazines' priority, not Amal's. If she would wear a simple - let's just say - M&S dress, the same magazines would put this on their headline. 'Do they run out of money?' 'Is she pregnant and her designer wardrobe doesn't fit her anymore?' 'Does George refuse to give her any more money because he's fed up with her high-end designer outfits?' 
But I guess they wouldn't write it as a question but as a statement.

And I prefer to read articles who's headline is not about her dressed and the designers, but about what she says and does. So - it's our choice what we read!

And have you ever read about who designed the suits Ban Ki Moon or other diplomats and politicians wear and how much they cost? There might have been hundreds of people at the U.N. or at the event afterwards who wore dresses as expensive as Amal's, but nobody talks about them. And as much as I enjoy to read the fashion blog about Amal's wardrobe, I really don't like the fact that the woman who runs it, always publishes the prices as well. For - I guess - all of us her wardrobe would be prohibitive, but there are also many people who couldn't afford the prices of my wardrobe. One of my sisters likes to buy designer outfits, the other one always buys very cheap clothes, and I'm inbetween them ranking the prices. It's just a question of perspective IMO...

What is interesting with that blog is that it has had to evolve to Amal's own schedule and priorities.

More and more you find articles about her cases and causes alongside the 'who's she wearing' type stuff - and sometimes as now, they take priority!

It's also possible that she's obliged to print the prices.

The Twitter feed to my mind tends to have all the important news!

People say clothes don't matter are an insignificant part of life...How wrong...

Ask any actor and they will tell you the costume determines the role..adds a dimension...

We have to go back to Adam and Eve....to God casting them out of the Garden of Eden for eating the fruit from the Tree of Knowledge Of Good and Evil.....Not only were they cast out but from then forth told to HIDE THEIR SHAME.....(wear clothes).....

God was being kinda sly....Tut tut Lord.....You see how we hide our shame says more about us than any words....

I looked at the picture of Mrs C and Nadia at the UN, and I was reminded of a Nora Ephram(sp ?) quote "You can be the Hero or the Victim of your life".....

Please I ask you all to look at the picture, see if you can guess who is the Hero and who is the Victim?.....

See the clothes do the talking...not in a good way.....

Someone is shouting Hero, in red white and blue!.....parading around a victim...who is quiet simply not ready to be a hero,yet....

Some people take time to heal, some never do....I doubt the Hero here will care......

it's the advantage that now magazines talk about her cases and not just her fashion - which led me to sometimes read them which I didn't do before.

I don't know if Amal is obliged to print the prices of her wardrobe. But that would mean that she or somebody who's paid by her hosts this blog. When you follow this blog, you'll realize that Nati doesn't react as a PR pro and also isn't informed that well. It often takes her weeks to find out the designer, and there are outfits she doesn't know about at all. If Amal was obliged to tell everybody the designers and prices of her wardrobe, it would be much easier if she would just have a twitter or instagram account.

The only hero here is Nadia that is all any one needs to know or care about. Maybe , people should pay attention to Nadia's story and what she has to say and less about what Amal wears. 

We have a choice what we find important to me Nadia's story and her survival are the important things here. What Amal wears means nothing and I'm sure the people who meet her could care less what she wears, they care about what she says.

Sorry, Carol. Maybe I gave the wrong impression. I'm perfectly sure Amal herself doesn't have to acknowledge the designers, but I wondered if the owner of the blog might have to as a condition of publishing.........

I'm so glad Amal spoke out about how tardy the UN is about getting anything done. It's a leviathan of an organisation with endless committees etc. 

If I was a betting person I would say her husband probably despaired of it some time ago. He probably feels he can achieve more outside the organisation than in it.

But it's all we have.......and better than nothing

PAN - I'd say George lost faith in the UN when they failed him in South Sudan and he gave up being a "Messenger for Peace". He and his friends can accomplish more on their own than they can within the restrictions and politics of the UN.

Just an observation on the media (should be on Chitchat for this). Any paper owned by Murdoch (and of course Fox) will have a Trump leaning. Most of the shareholders will be Republican.

I thought Amal gave a very powerful and moving speech.

Nadia is such an incredibly strong woman. Not only to have experienced such horrors but to be able to tell her story over and over again.

I think this talk about Amal's clothes is giving people an excuse to not hear Nadia's message, maybe because it makes people feel uncomfortable. It's disheartening to acknowledge that people are being enslaved, tortured and raped a plane ride away. Trying to paint Amal as some sort of villain does the same IMO. 

Amal's speech was great. All about the victims, and how UN and we as people have failed them.

Her speech was  good and she spoke the truth everyone has failed these people.

AGAIN....look to George.......He has a vast knowledge of how the world works....a street knowledge of politics, war, PR, law, government, famine, aid, persecution you name it....He knows not only the limitations of the world we live in....but the potential...and it involves more than passing on the message.....(see other thread...)

I think those who cared  were paying attention to Nadia and what Amal had to say. 
Which was the important thing not what Amal was wearing.

There was no reason to bring up Amal's clothes there was so much to talk about Nadia being the main thing. 
zsome feel the need to try and find fault with Amal in everything she does. People should realize what is important and what is trivial.

I'm pretty sure those who saw and heard Amal didn't know or care who she was wearing they knew what the purpose was and heard everything
loud and clear like those of us who chose to listen.

Serious journalists are focusing on Nadia, her story and how Amal is using her legal expertise to bring some justice for the Yazidi people. The media stories I've read have not been claiming Amal is a hero or discussing her fashion. They have described Nadia as a voice for her people .... a brave young woman. They've discussed the notable speech Amal gave to the UN. Amal's message has been strong and I don't think it was lost on people who care for the plight of Nadia and her people. So beyond reading such claims here haven't read as much elsewhere.

I couldn't disagree more. No message was lost because of Amal's choice of clothing, except for those who are wilfully ignorant and use it as an excuse to not listen. It's IMO taking us backwards when the clothes a woman wears is used as an excuse to not hear what she's saying. I'm pretty sure the suit George wears is a designer, but no articles are written about it.  

IMO if anyone, when hearing the horrific story of Nadia Murad, chooses to pick apart Nadia's lawyer's clothes she wears instead  and not listen to what Nadia is saying,  well, they weren't going to hear and listen to Nadia anyway.

WWHS-- I don't get your point.  Are you saying that Amal should have worn a tshirt emblazoned with her client's cause?  Or that George would have worn one to the UN?  I think he wore a suit.  I am no apologist for Amal's wardrobe, but I think what she wore was appropriate, businesslike and understated.  I also wonder if there is a little bit of sexism at play.  A man who wears a suit is serious and so the message is not about the wrapping?  Why are we even talking about what she wore when the issue she is addressing is so horrific?  I doubt if we would even be discussing what a male attorney representing these women wore.  Hopefully those attending at the UN are not so shallow that they concentrated on her clothes (and celebrity!) rather than the content of her speech.

I can understand those who have concerns about the cost of the clothes and whether that conflicts with the message, but that issue has been hashed over many times on this forum already.

I thought what she wore was perfect . Understated and lovely .
