George Clooney: 'Fame Is Disrupting My Wife's Life'

George Clooney's wife Amal's work and personal life have been disrupted by the increased fame which has come with their marriage.

The human rights lawyer wed George in September, 2014, and her husband says he has had to offer her advice on how to deal with her resulting fame, such as avoiding public places.

"It's harder for her," he tells Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper. "We were in New York and Amal, who lived in New York for six years and worked there, said: 'Let's walk to Central Park', and I said: 'You can't'."

I say this with the understanding, that no one wants to hear people who have fame and everything, complain. I'm not complaining, I'm just explaining it. You can't walk out when there is 30 people follow you everywhere (sic). That is always the case. For her that is the real adjustment."

The Hollywood superstar says curious members of the public have even been turning up at her lessons at New York's Columbia University, where she holds a teaching post.

"It's been fine at public events but it's been very hard when she is teaching at Columbia, when people follow her into the classroom where she is teaching," he says. "Those are difficult things for her. But she handles it like a pro, she's great. She's so great at what she does."

Despite her new status as a celebrity, Amal has continued her legal work, the nature of which fills the Ocean's Eleven actor with pride.

"She has gotten two people out of prison that had no business being in prison including the President of the Maldives, Nasheed, who was the only democratically elected President and was charged with terrorism and put in a prison in the Maldives for 13 years," George says.

"She has just got him out. She is really good at what she does. And I'm very proud of the work she does."
