George Clooney jokes Tomorrowland co-star Hugh Laurie has ‘kleptomania issue’ after catching actor leaving his dressing room
US actor George Clooney has joked that his Tomorrowland co-star Hugh Laurie has a penchant for thieving.
Clooney, 54, praised Laurie’s “terrific” acting skills, but revealed that his only “downside” was his “kleptomania issue” – something he will be having words with him about.
“I met Hugh Laurie a couple of times before and he’s got a very dry sense of humour that I’ve always really appreciated,” the Hollywood star said.
“It’s a real pleasure to be around somebody who does things because he wants to do them, not because he has to. It’s also fun to have him there because he wants to be there and he’s a first-rate, high-calibre man first of all and then just a terrific actor, too, so there’s no downside to him.”
He added: “Except he does, and I don’t want to say it aloud, have a little kleptomania issue and it’s going to have to be addressed because I caught him coming out of my room with some of my belongings and I’d like them back."
Clooney – who plays Frank Walker in the Brad Bird directed film alongside Laurie as David Nix also praised his younger co-star Raffey Cassidy.
“She’s going to be something sort of spectacular, I think,” Clooney said. “I played a paediatrician on ER for quite a few years and I worked with a lot of kid actors and it’s very rare to see a kid that is ready and able, and parents who are in good shape.
“You know that kid’s going to be fine. You don’t feel like the parents are living vicariously through the kid.”
The film follows Casey Newton (Britt Robertson) who finds herself transported to Tomorrowland, a metropolis filled with huge robots, every time she touches a lapel pin with the letter T on it. She recruits the help of scientist Frank Walker - who years ago made a startling discovery about the future. Together, the two adventurers travel to Tomorrowland to uncover its mysterious secrets.
Clooney said he was drawn to the futuristic theme because unlike other sci-fi films it looked to the future with hope.
“What makes this film and this story unique is that the films we have seen about the future in general over the last few years have always had some real dark undertone to them," he said. "It’s been a long time since we looked at the future with some idea that there’s some hope and a positive outcome. I liked that about this story.
"Between Brad Bird and Damon Lindelof you have really good storytellers. I responded to the idea of doing a film that isn’t about death and destruction and the end of the world but rather about hope and inspiration. I thought that would be a fun film to work on and it really was fun to work on.”

Apart from this joke George made about Hugh Laurie he just said very nice things about him and the other stars and also the 'makers' of Tomorrowland in this interview. I reckognized that a few times and I like it. Says a lot about him...

I find George always shines the spotlight on the people he works with other than himself. A very admirable quality.
