George Clooney wears a suicide vest and cowers behind gun-toting Jack O'Connell to film explosive scenes for Money Monster

George Clooney was seen strapped into a suicide vest on the set of his latest movie Money Monster.

The 53-year-old was filming some explosive looking scenes in New York on Saturday along with co-star Jack O'Connell.
In the film, Clooney plays a TV financial personality taken hostage by Jack O'Connell's character who has lost his life savings after following his money advice.

The bomb: George Clooney donned a suicide vest on Saturday as he filmed Money Monster in New York
And if the producers are filming this much action in one day fans can probably look forward to one frenzied film.
At one point of the shoot, Clooney can be seen looking as cool as only George Clooney could wearing an explosive belt

Top billing: The 53-year-old was also shooting scenes with his co-star Jack O'Connell

Smart-casual: Wearing a sharp dark grey suit, untucked white pin-stripe shirt and silver tie, the star accessorised his outfit with a grey vest tightly packed with C4 plastic explosive
With dark grey slacks and black shoes, the Ocean's Eleven star looked completely relaxed with his white shirt untucked and sleeves rolled up, top button undone and silver tie slightly loosened at the neck.
He completed his outfit with a grey vest, with pockets tightly packed with C4 plastic explosives, interconnected with detonator wiring.
Despite being a walking grenade, the star looked totally laid back, strolling about the set with his hands in his pockets and sharing a laugh with his young co-star.

Plot: In the film, Clooney plays a financial TV personality who's bad advice leads to O'Connell's character losing all his money, who then takes him hostage

Tense: The pair also filmed some dramatic scenes in which Clooney cowers behind the gun-toting O'Connell

In trouble: The 24-year-old, who plays Kyle Budwell, looked like he might be a bit out of his depth
The pair were also seen filming a dramatic scene in which Clooney cowers behind the gun toting O'Connell in a street stand off.
This rime round Clooney's wardrobe goes from 'detonator' to 'douchier', as he rocks loose fitting jeans and black shoes, and a black leather biker jacked over a black Casamigos Tequila T-shirt.
The shades perched on top of his head, nestled in a hairstyle that's about four decades too young for him helps justify O'Connell's actions.

The 24-year-old meanwhile wears a worried expression along with his flat Addidas trainers, indigo jeans and black jacket with the hood pulled over a head.

As he nervously points a hand gun at someone off camera, a panicked Clooney grabs his hips and tries to take cover behind him.
O'Connell plays Kyle Budwell, who takes Wall Street guru Lee Gates (Clooney) and his entire TV show hostage live on air when he loses all his family's money on a bad tip.

The drama/thriller is directed by Jodie Foster, and also stars Julia Roberts and Dominic West.
Filming only got underway in New York City at the end of February, with release a date scheduled for some time in 2016.

If this happened today the DM really got it out there fast. O'Connell shouldn't look so cold, PAN. It's a beautiful, sunny day with temperature around 60 degrees.

But I'm confused. Either George filmed earlier in the day and hung around to rehearse with O'Connell (or mess with him - take your pick Very Happy

) or this is not just from today's shoot. I'm guessing he filmed earlier today (in costume) and was on his way out (usual off-duty uniform) when he decided to "rehearse" with O'Connell.
If his usual casual clothes didn't seem too out of character for him in the flm, I wonder if he'd have asked Jodie Foster for a product placement deal if he could wear the Casamigos shirt.Seems like he lives in the damn thing! Very Happy

So I'm guessing that this is a climactic scene where he (George's character) is taken to a crowded city area and reveals that he is wired with explosives, and is forced to take matters into his own hands with the hostage-taker.

God, I want to get my hands on that screenplay.

I like that Foster has him looking so un-movie star-glamorous. The 'tired' look is by design, I'm sure.

This should be a good one. (Hail, Caesar, I'm not sure.)

The directors who have worked with George have said that it's like having another really skilled and non-intrusive director and writer on the set. He's good about helping other actors hit their marks in relation to what's going on with the cameras and the other action in the scene. So I'm not at all surprised to see George there when he's 'off duty,' to work through the staging with his co-star.

I'm guessing it's the repercussions from his back injury that are aging him prematurely, because he really does look older than he is.

What are your reservations about "Hail Caesar"? Are they based on the screenplay or something else? Just curious.

Well, if a character has been through an on-air hostage situation that's being manipulated for ratings while his life is at stake, and then gets to the point where he's strapped with dynamite, I think the production calls for him to look tired and disheveled. :-)

But, I think you're right. George is visibly aged. It's probably a combination of genetics, real-life fatigue, chronic pain, and maybe even medications. I know my med has changed my appearance, so I'm really sensitive to that.

Not that George isn't as sexy as ever to me. But I attribute most of this to the production. The photos of him on the interior set have him looking polished, if not perfect. So let's chalk this up to the production.

Plus George not being at his best when it's cold -- which it looks like it was that particular day. He had to work without a coat for the explosives scene, and everyone else is dressed for the weather. He should have asked Amal for some tips on how to pull off the 'I know it's cold, but I look too good' thing.

Oh. Hail, Caesar.

I'm not a huge Coens fan. I think I've mentioned that. I think their comedy is very stylized, and it misses as much as it hits for me. I know I'm in the minority on that. But they have described this story as "zany." That's one of my red flags. 'Zany' means 'supposed to be comedic, but it's really just over-the-top silly.' 'Zany' is for farce and parody, and from what I read of this script, it's neither.

Then you have the megasize ensemble cast of major stars, all of whom need something to do to set their role apart. In a "zany" movie. I'm skeptical. I would love to be wrong.

Yea he looks older than he should but it's a beautiful face with so much character. Wouldn't trade a more youthful looking George for the seasoned man he is. His qualities as a human being reflect in his face.
