Newlyweds George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin have reportedly purchased a multimillion-dollar mansion on the English countryside.
George Clooney now has a stunning new home to go along with his stunning new wife.
The newlywed actor has purchased a multimillion-dollar mansion in the English countryside, according to London’s the Daily Mail on Sunday.
Clooney, 53, and his new bride, 36-year-old Amal Alamuddin, have been honeymooning at the Oxfordshire estate since their Venice nuptials last weekend.
The palatial property boasts a state-of-the-art spa complex, a movie room and two separate cottages, the Mail reported.
PBS
The new mansion is less than an hour away from the majestic Highclere Castle (pictured), where the hit TV show "Downton Abbey" is filmed.
“It was Amal who first set eyes on the place. It’s her dream location,” a source told the paper.
The home, located 50 miles west of London, fits in well with the star couple’s professional lives.
It’s less than an hour away from the majestic Highclere Castle, where the hit TV show "Downton Abbey" is filmed.
Clooney is set to appear in a “Downton” Christmas special later this year.
Alamuddin’s commute from Oxfordshire to her legal chambers in central London is less than an hour drive.

Here is the link to mailonline article. It says they are expected to stay in their new home at least until next weekend.
GIRL ABOUT TOWN: George pushes the boat out for Thames love nest
George Clooney has swapped Tinseltown for the Thames – by snapping up a multi-million-pound riverside home for his new bride Amal Alamuddin.
The newlyweds are enjoying their honeymoon in the stunning Oxfordshire mansion after their four-day-long marriage celebrations in Venice last weekend.
The couple are expected to stay at their new home at least until next weekend.
I wouldn’t want heart-throb George to be besieged by hordes of screaming fans during this private time, so I won’t reveal too many details about the couple’s latest purchase, but I have seen the palatial property and trust me, it is fabulous.
The facilities they can enjoy include a state-of-the-art spa complex and a cinema room.
Naturally, neighbours are already excited that an A-list actor and a glamorous human rights lawyer have moved into the area, with some hinting at the couple’s arrival on Twitter.
A source said: ‘It was Amal who first set eyes on the place. It’s her dream location.
She was torn between Oxfordshire and Kent but ultimately chose Oxfordshire because she felt most at home there. She first fell in love with it during her days there at university.’
The couple’s entourage will have plenty of room to relax there too when they’re off-duty as there are also two cottages on the estate.
George, 53, will be less than an hour away from Highclere Castle, which will come in handy should he reprise his role in ITV drama Downton Abbey.
He is due to appear in a Downton Christmas special this year. The location is also ideal for Amal, 36, whose commute to her legal chambers in Doughty Street in Central London will be less than 50 miles.
George, who shot to fame in TV medical drama ER before starring in films such as Ocean’s Eleven and Gravity, already owns a number of properties. They include a vast Italian villa with stunning views of Lake Como.

Re: George Clooney's house in England
Here is the link to Mirror. Latest story is George bought the house as a 5 million pound wedding gift to his wife . They are staying indoors to make babies and only leave the house to walk the dogs. So does that mean that Einstein got a friend?

George Clooney and wife Amal Alamuddin secretly honeymooning in BRITAIN in £5million mansion he bought her
Sources say the super-attractive duo have barely left the luxury home since arriving last week
George Clooney and his stunning wife Amal Alamuddin may have ditched the Seychelles for a honeymoon in good old Blighty.
The newlyweds are thought to be celebrating their marriage in a £5million mansion which George bought his new lady as a wedding gift.
Sources say the super-attractive duo have barely left the luxury home since arriving last week.
A source told The Sun: "They want it to be the place where they bring up a family. They have talked about having kids.
"The fact they have barely left the house so far other than to walk the dogs implies they're keen to get cracking."
The newlyweds tied the knot in a lavish ceremony in Venice last weekend in front of close family and friends, and made their vows legally binding in a civil ceremony two days later.
According to Us Weekly, guests dined on lobsters, lemon risotto, fried polenta and mushrooms and partied the night away to Amy Winehouse, Daft Punk and old school classics from Jackson 5 and Blondie.
Guests including pal Matt Damon, U2's Bono, actress Emily Blunt, Cindy Crawford and US Vogue editor Anna Wintour were seen leaving the ceremony and hopping onto water taxis as thousands of people lined the Grand Canal to try and get a glimpse of the happy couple.
Emily was seen wearing a gorgeous blue patterned halter neck dress and was helped by a number of smartly dressed male guests as she stepped into a boat, while Cindy, whose husband was best man, also went for a darker shade of blue.
Matt and his gorgeous wife Luciana Barroso, who arrived in the city on Friday, were also photographed with Luciana dressed in a stunning low-cut lilac dress which flattered her figure.
Fashion icon Anna opted for a long black patterned number and white fur cardigan with heels and had her blonde hair styled in her signature bob.

George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin eyeing up £3million manor of Downton Abbey producer
George is known to be a Downton fan and recently went on a private set visit at Highclere Castle, arranged by his Monuments Men co-star Hugh Bonneville
Hollywood superstar George Clooney could soon be lord of an English manor after eyeing up the home of a Downton Abbey producer.
The Gravity actor, 53, has been looking for a house here after getting engaged to London-based lawyer Amal Alamuddin , and is said to be tempted by the £3million 10-bedroom period countryside property in Kent.
George is known to be a Downton fan and recently went on a private set visit at Highclere Castle, arranged by his Monuments Men co-star Hugh Bonneville, who plays Lord Robert Crawley in the ITV period drama.
And it seems he took inspiration from the sprawling pile, and has made enquiries about one producer’s Grade II listed Georgian home, which boasts almost 10 acres of land and has a further 53 acres up for negotiation.
It also has an outdoor pool, formal gardens, a wine cellar and separate areas to house staff if required – and includes a barn conversion next door.
A source claimed: “George wants to lay down some roots in England and be close to Amal’s family and work.
“She loves rural areas, including Kent and Oxfordshire, so they’re keen to find somewhere picturesque and with some privacy.
He loves the lineage and the fact it is on a large acreage for privacy and to build further if need be.
“It’s isolated and not too grand and that’s the brief they have given their agent.”
George and Amal are set to tie the knot in September, near to their one-year anniversary. He is said to have proposed with a £450,000 ring in April.
The couple visited Downton’s grand Highclere Castle during a mini-break in the countryside last week.
It prompted speculation they could even consider the historic location as their wedding venue.
It is available to hire from around £14,000.
George met top lawyer Amal – who represented WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange in court – through a mutual friend at a charity fundraising event last year.
He was reported to have wooed the 36-year-old with a string of flirty emails, including one in which he joked that “the reported hottest man in the world should meet with the hottest human rights lawyer in the world”.

Sevens, something lost in translation, I think. It doesn't say she can't cook. It's says they've organised a private company to bring in meals. They're on honeymoon!
And it's a tabloid story.
Bear in mind that this home is not a million miles from location shooting for Monuments Men......beautiful part of the country. Nice pubs!

Well, we know HE can cook. He grills for his friends and he supposedly cooked for her the night he proposed. I guess they just don't want to be bothered cooking all their meals while on their honeymoon. They have better things to do.

It's said they have a cinema at the house so maybe they see movies and have meals in the day and have sex at the night! Anyway, I appreciate such a private and intimate honeymoon and wish them the best.

Re: George Clooney's house in England
The U.S. article assumes they know what's going on inside their home. Of course, through a source. We really don't know if they are even there. Who has actually seen them. One media report said that they haven't been seen at their home except when George "walks the dogs". Dogs? Does Einstein have a brother or sister now. As George said back in July the media just sits down at their computers and decides what they are going to make up for the day. For every report of them being at their new London home there are equal reports of them being in the Seychelles. Just driving us crazy.

claims that the high-profile duo have been sharing the start of their married life together in Berkshire.[You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]
Although the slight catch to the story is that George is reported to have bought Amal a £5m mansion - in which they're currently relaxing with just the occasional dog walk to stretch their legs.
A source told the tabloid: "George has all the money in the world but wanted to give Amal something special to mark their marriage.
"Buying her a house must be up there with the most expensive wedding gifts in history, but the thought behind it was to give them a proper place to call home in the future.
"George will still travel the world for his movies, but they intend for this to be their British base. They want it to be the place where they bring up a family. They have already talked about having kids.
"The fact they have barely left the house so far other than to walk the dogs implies they're keen to get cracking."
And while George has reported opened his wallet wide for Amal's gift, she treated her new husband to a pair of spaniels!

There are two reports in this thread saying the house is in Oxfordshire and Berkshire. is that the same thing and if yes is that where Kent is? in this case maybe we can merge it with the thread below as the house in the below thread is reported to be in Kent. I'm confused with all the "...shire" in England....

OK I googled. And as per Google Oxfordshire, Berkshire and Kent are different Locations. So no clue about what house we talk about and if it's all the same. How about we merge all three threads and change the title to "buying a house in the" UNITED KINGDOM" That would cover it hehe

Here is the lastest article.George is buying a house in the village of Sonning in Berkshire, just across the border from Oxfordshire and becoming a neighbour of Uri Geller?

Is George Clooney Planning to Move in Next to Uri Geller and Theresa May in Berkshire?
Just weeks after getting married to Human Rights lawyer Amal Alamiddin in Venice, it looks like Hollywood A-lister George Clooney wants a fresh start and a change of scenery.
According to reports, the Ocean's Eleven star wants to start married life in the UK and has already brought a property in the village of Sonning in Berkshire.
The quiet community, which lies just across the border with Oxfordshire, is worlds away from his sprawling LA mansion and insiders claim the couple plan to raise their family there.
Sonning, described by novelist Jerome K. Jerome as "the most fairy-like little nook on the whole river [Thames]" is already home to likes of Jimmy Page from Led Zepellin and Home Secretary Theresa May.
Spoon-bending illusionist Uri Geller said he was looking forward to welcoming his superstar neighbour.
"It's amazing synchronisity that George Clooney, the same actor who played me in the film The Men Who Stare at Goats, may be moving to my home village of Sonning - we could be neighbours!" Geller told IBTimes UK.
Clooney said 'I do' to Alamiddin in Venice in a four-day wedding marathon, which was attended by over 100 guests, including Matt Damon, Cindy Crawford Bono and Anna Wintour.
The nuptials, described as the 'Wedding of The Year, included five-star hotel rooms, water taxis, poolside parties, designer dresses, and a wedding reception on the Grand Canal. The whole celebration reportedly cost £8 Million.

An interesting article here about Sonning.

There's something fishy going on: Mysterious red postbox appears overnight in the middle of a RIVER - but the Royal Mail say they know nothing about it
- Postmen in Sonning-on-Thames stumped by appearance of letterbox in Berkshire village bridge
- Village resident psychic Uri Geller says he is perplexed by meaning behind box
- Postbox just feet above water level, meaning it would flood in winter
Residents of a Berkshire town are scratching their heads over the appearance of a Royal Mail letterbox - in the middle of the River Thames.
An incredulous postman spotted the traditional box embedded into one of the buttresses of a brick bridge in the village of Sonning-on-Thames.
As he didn't have a boat handy, he took a photo from the riverbank to prove to his bosses just why he hadn't been able to make this particular collection in his van.

Flashback: This similar red letterbox has appeared recently on a bridge in Berkshire over the Thames
Posting a letter would be tricky too, and with the box nestled just a few feet above the water line, it would be likely to become waterlogged in the winter as this stretch of the Thames regularly floods.
Even psychic Uri Geller, who lives in Sonning, admitted he was stumped by the mystery of the letter box - how it got there, who put it there and why.
Mr Geller, a resident for three decades, said: 'I have never seen anything like this anywhere in the world, it's a new one on me.
'This is a very unusual village,' he added.
'There are many sightings of a child ghost that walks on the bridge.
'Maybe it was the ghost of a mischievous little girl.'
Canal users were also puzzled and took to blogs to question why the post box was there.
Some have suggested the box is part of a promotional stunt for a production of Don't Shoot The Messenger by the Mikron Theatre company in which 'a gun-toting hoodlum holds up a sleepy village Post Office'.

Lost in post: Residents have pointed out that the box would be useless in winter as the river often floods
The play was performed in July this year at Sonning Lock cafe.
A spokesman for the Royal Mail, Val Bodden, said: 'The recent appearance of a postbox frontage on the side of the river bridge at Sonning is a mystery to us.
'It is certainly not an operational posting facility and we have no knowledge of how it arrived at this location.'

Re: George Clooney's house in England
From local Berkshire:
Now it looks as if Amal Alamuddin will be sailing up the Thames with her new husband to the couple’s first marital home together in Sonning Eye.
This week the village was awash with the news that the celebrity couple have purchased the Grade II listed Aberlash Manor nestled on a four acre island in the Thames River straddling the Berkshire and Oxfordshire border. Previous owner, London-based banker Omar Bayoumi, confirmed that he had sold the house but when asked who had bought it, said: “I’m afraid I am unable to comment.” He did not, however, deny that the purchaser was the Hollywood legend.
The nine-bedroom luxury home, next door to the Mill at Sonning theatre, was built in the 17th century and was once owned by the Rich family and Lords of the Manor of Sonning. Last year it was listed on RightMove at £10million but recently the property was being marketed on exclusive property website luxos.com with a “price on application” tag.
The stunning home boasts a gym and steam room, a library, study, family room, formal dining room and cellar and a boat house. The kitchen has an Aga and the breakfast room overlooks a sun-soaked terrace and formal gardens reach down to the water.
It is thought that Clooney, 53, fell in love with the area when he visited the small Oxfordshire village of Fingest last June to shoot scenes of Hollywood movie The Monuments Men, which he was directing. The couple moving into the village was the talk of the neighbourhood this week after George and his wife were spotted at the local pub The Bull last Saturday. Marisol Frost, 39, and Sarah Hele, 40, said there were lots of great things to do throughout the year in the village which is also home to Home Secretary Theresa May and spooner-bender Uri Geller. Mrs Frost said: “It’s nice that he has chosen Sonning and we will make them very welcome. The primary school is also very good — if they decided to have any children! “We are used to seeing celebrity faces around here so he will get privacy.” And Mrs Hele added: “We have the village show every year and the Scarecrow hunt every two years. The village rounders match is also great fun and the school children do a lovely nativity play in the local church. “We are a small, friendly community where people get involved. It’s a great place.” The pair advised that as long as Clooney avoided rush hour when Sonning gets clogged up with commuter traffic, he should be fine.
Lock Keeper and neighbour Keith Burnage is hoping the pair will visit his lock cafe where they can enjoy homemade cakes and cream teas. He said: “Well apparently he is a good chap. I know because my son Mark was an extra in the last film George directed The Monuments Men.” The keeper, whose riverside home was isolated due to last year’s winter flooding, said the newlyweds should not be affected by rising water. “The water gets high and right up to the home — but not in it,” he said. The landlady of the 630-year-old pub The Bull, Christine Mason, was keeping tight-lipped on whether the couple had popped in for a drink on Saturday, as most villagers claim. She said: “They are more than welcome to come here to have a great English pint and food. We are a real taste of England.”
And neighbour The Reverend Jamie Taylor said the couple were most welcome at St Andrew’s Church, in Thames Street, that was at the centre of village life. - [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]

Yep. Great thing about this is that it's on Sonning Eye, a private island in the Thames. Not sure about flooding potential tho! Beautiful place.

I'm less conviced after checking google map... I think it is the house next to The Mill (Dinner Theater). Would this be something George would be comfortable with?

Re: George Clooney's house in England
It's a beautiful house and seems to have everything they could possibly need.
The one thing that struck me was that a couple of people said that village life revolves around the church. How will G&A handle that, since he's at best an agnostic and we don't know what she believes?
The other thing that comes to mind is, if they raise a family there, isn't that then their primary residence? If so, it puts paid to any political aspirations he might have in the US. They might become a power couple on the international level, but he won't be electable in America. You have to live here to serve in public office - we're kind of picky about that.

Re: George Clooney's house in England
I still have huge doubts that G&A will have children. They both are pretty driven by their careers. But of course don't know what they have discussed. Also do not believe George has political aspirations either. He had said so many times. Charlie Rose asked him in one of their interviews if he would and George said no because he doesn't like to compromise. Then there was that famous statement in. Newsweek article(?) he made in which he said he's done too many drugs and f****ed too many women. I could see them becoming a very international power couple on the humanitarian front. Beautiful Home. Is it confirmed that this is their house???

Re: George Clooney's house in England
I'm not completely convinced this is it.
Someone's putting two and two together and making five, I think. If you think about would it really still be advertised if they've bought it?
It's entirely possible they were in the local pub, interesting that the pub wouldn't comment. But they could be anywhere in the area. It's all close to Henley
The Mill at Sonning is a very nice and popular theatre/dinner club and very snug. Altho it looks close on the map there are many narrow walled roads there to get to tiny bridges over to Sonning Eye - and private roads.
If the Home Secretary lives there (it's her constituency I think), then security wouldn't be a problem!

Oh, I don't think he's going for political office. In one interview he was asked and he said 'Why on earth would I want to do that? I have a very nice life, thanks!'

I think George is way too smart to ever run for political office. He saw what his dad went through . He is also aware he has way too much baggage to even attempt it.

Unfortunately people keep talking about it. He has enough on his plate. I think his real passion is directing and as time goes by he will be far more focused on directing and producing.
PAN or anyone else why do you call George Mr. Nibs? I asked earlier on another thread. No one has given an explanation
