George Clooney's Future In-Laws 'Delighted' as Wedding Nears

As George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin's highly anticipated wedding in Venice, Italy, draws near, no one would blame the bride's parents if they felt a little stressed out.

But, as it turns out, Ramzi and Baria Alamuddin appear utterly unruffled – just thrilled to welcome Clooney, 53, into their family.

"Ramzi couldn't seem more delighted," a source close to the Alamuddins tells PEOPLE. "He finds Clooney very sympathetic, intelligent, cool, easygoing and crazy in love with Amal!"

The 77-year-old retired travel agency operator and university lecturer, who hosted his future son-in-law onboard a yacht last March in Dubai, has even been involved with the planning.

Engaged since April, the Oscar winner and the British international lawyer have quietly planned their nuptials with help from both their families.

The pair spent much of the summer in Italy at Clooney's Lake Como estate, often making it a family affair with visits from Alamuddin's mother, Baria, and Clooney's parents, Nick and Nina.

In July, the couple's moms bonded over a day of shopping around Lake Como, walking down the street arm-in-arm in one of the small Italian towns near the lake.

Of course, the Clooney-Alamuddin clans will have plenty more chances to bond in the coming weeks – and that suits them just fine.

Excited for the wedding, Alamuddin's father is also "extremely calm," says the family source.

And discreet. "He's not saying a thing about the wedding," says the source. "He's a card player and he's not giving away anything!"

Delighted?  Yes, but I'll bet also holding their breath which will be let out in a collective sigh of relief once he puts that other ring on her finger and says, "I do!"

Meet the famous friend that will Officiate George Clooney & Amal Alamuddin's Wedding

They've chosen their locale and coordinated the planning with their parents, and now, George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin have settled on an officiant for their upcoming wedding. 

Walter Veltroni, an Italian writer, journalist and politician who served as mayor of Rome from 2001 to 2008, will conduct the ceremony, a representative for the Venice Municipality confirms to PEOPLE. 

Veltroni is a close friend of Clooney's, and the Oscar winner has likened him in the past toPresident Barack Obama, saying that the former mayor appealed "to the young, he speaks of hope and a clean environment, [which is] rare in Italian politics." 

Veltroni, 59, also wrote the preface to the Italian edition of then-Senator Obama's 2006 book, The Audacity of Hope. 

Clooney and Veltroni previously shared the spotlight when the actor, 53, was honored in Rome in 2007 with a human rights award for his activism on behalf of refugees in Darfur. 

This won't be his first celebrity wedding: He was also one few Italians invited to Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes's 2006 nuptials at the Odescalchi Castle in Bracciano. 

Surely Veltroni has officiated plenty of weddings in the past, but should he need any last-minute pointers, he can always ask the bride!

Just about a week away, and I bet george is in heaven. this is what he has wanted all along and his dream is coming true. I wish him and amal much happiness and I would love to be there for the wedding, not that I wish I was the one, but to give george a big hug and let him know he is well loved and cared for by me and many others out there. he is a very special man with a beautiful smile and love of life and people and a very kind, & genuine person. love to you george, bg

I think they will look a lot at Matt and Lucy's marriage. After all, Amal is a "civilian" like Lucy who, because of the daughters, can't follow the husband everywhere. Amal instead is very busy with work, so...
