NICK CLOONEY HEADED TO NASHVILLE

PRESS RELEASE 8/11/2014
917 Society Brings Clooney to Town! !
Carrying a personal copy of the US Constitution wherever he goes, Nick Clooney — American journalist — believes 8th grade students must better understand the Constitution’s importance to a strong nation and that’s why he is coming to Nashville to participate in the 917 Society’s short film which is being produced for viewing on Wednesday, September 17, Constitution Day, across Tennessee by 8th grade students studying civics.
Clooney and 917 Society Director Joni Bryan intend to improve students’ appreciation for the role the Constitution plays in American government.
The Constitution begins with “We the people,” allowing all citizens, rich and poor, to have equal freedom and boundaries. Something this vital should be memorized and immortalized by every American, and yet, how many have even read it? One of our forefathers, Thomas Jefferson, said, “Whenever the people are well-informed, they can be trusted with their own government.” If we don’t know what our Constitution says, how can we, the people, still be trusted?
It is with this crisis in mind that 917 Society, a new non-profit, is being launched this month by Bryan, and vice president Jeffrey Humble. The name “917 Society” refers to the actual date of Constitution Day — September 17. The 917 Society is committed to providing the resources public school teachers need to make this one of the most important days and times of the year.
Along with the short film (produced by Rob Cheplicki), the organization will be launching an interactive website and mobile app to continually educate and empower youth, and intends to give a copy of the Constitution to every 8th grader in the country, starting with Tennessee.
The 917 Society is launching into the community with a fundraiser at OZ at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, August 19. Clooney will be in attendance, and will be sharing about why he has joined forces with 917. Due to Clooney’s high profile, tickets are limited, but attendants will be able to socialize with Clooney as well as other Nashville entrepreneurs, educators and visionaries.
The event will feature great food and music, through the generous donations and participation of the Nashville community, including fluff by Lora Miller, Flavor by Jason Crockarell, and music by Teri Reid.

Re: NICK CLOONEY HEADED TO NASHVILLE
Agree Katie. Even with a private jet, he's 80 yrs old, has had a small stroke, and in some of the Italian photos, he looks a bit frail. Don't think George would put that kind of strain on his dad. So, when's then next possible date? Doesn't look like Sept 20, if he's back to work the end of Sept. Are they already married?

Re: NICK CLOONEY HEADED TO NASHVILLE
Could be this weekend. They have just departed Como via private jet, correct? Settle into Torcello on Thursday, rehearsal/welcoming dinner Friday, wedding Saturday, relax Sunday and most of Monday. They could even get married Friday night and have the whole weekend to relax with family. Nick doesn't really have to be on a plane till Monday evening, right? Plenty of time, both for Nick and to get those "exclusive"wedding shots to People before their Wednesday print deadline.
Missa- Clooney-love. And they said it wouldn't last

Last night, Nick Clooney gave one of the best openings to a speech I've ever heard. He looked at the crowd and said, "I'm probably one of the few people who knows exactly what his obituary is going to say." Here he paused and held up his hands, as if reading it in the air.
"Nick Clooney," he continued, "comma...brother of renowned singer and actress Rosemary Clooney...comma...father of actor, film director, producer and screenwriter George Clooney...comma...died today."

Thank you to Nick and Nina Clooney for coming to Nashville to champion the cause of the 917 Society and help us help our public school teachers and students celebrate the U.S. Constitution with our Films, website and pocket Constitutions given to every eighth grade student!

So maybe soon we will see a video of his speech????
Two more shouts out for Sandy Jo Johnston and Rachel Bryan for helping with make-up yesterday for the Nick Clooney Filming and interviews!

BIOGRAPHY
Nick Clooney has been a broadcaster since he was 16 years old.
For most of the intervening years, his focus has been radio and television news. His career has also encompassed hosting talk shows, researching and introducing "golden era" films for American Movie Classics, lecturing about news, American history and movies, writing a newspaper column three days a week and authoring three books.
But gathering and delivering news has been Nick Clooney's passion since he was a little boy in Maysville, Kentucky, listening to the unforgettable voices of Ed Murrow, Elmer Davis, William Shirer and others describing the panorama of World War II on the radio. It was in Maysville that Nick began his broadcasting career. His first assignment, appropriately, was reading a newscast.
Over the years, Nick Clooney has been a reporter, anchor, managing editor and news director in Lexington, Kentucky, Cincinnati, Ohio, Salt Lake City, Utah, Buffalo, New York and Los Angeles, California.
He has been a speaker, master of ceremonies, moderator or panelist at more than 3,000 events and has delivered the commencement address at high schools, colleges and universities more than 30 times.
When anchoring in Los Angeles, Nick Clooney was selected as one of “the best in the business” of television news by Washington Review of Journalism. He has been inducted into the Cincinnati, Kentucky and Ohio Journalism Halls of Fame, named a Kentucky Distinguished Broadcaster and, most recently, elected to the Ohio Radio and Television Broadcasters’ Hall of Fame.
Nick Clooney has received an EMMY for commentary and another for historical narration. He was nominated three times for National EMMYs for his work with American Movie Classics. He received an Honorary Doctorate of Fine Arts from Northern Kentucky University.
In 2006, Clooney and his son George travelled to Darfur, Sudan and filmed a documentary, A Journey to Darfur, which was broadcast on American cable TV as well as in England, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, and France. In 2008 it was released on DVD with the proceeds from its sale being donated to the International Rescue Committee to help the people of Darfur.
Clooney became a strong activist for Darfur. He has done several open forums and speeches at local high schools in Ohio & Kentucky, and has participated in different rallys for Darfur. On March 16, 2007, Clooney was awarded an honorary diploma from St. Xavier High School, the high school he attended in Cincinnati before moving to California. On October 11, 2007, Clooney visited Turpin High School in Cincinnati to talk to students about Darfur.
Nick is married to Nina Warren Clooney, a writer, TV host and inventor. Their children are Ada, a writer and mother of the World’s Only Two Grandchildren, and George, an internationally successful actor, producer and director in both films and television. Nick’s late sister Rosemary Clooney was a world-famous singer and actress.
Nick Clooney now works with American Life TV cable channel headquartered in Washington, D.C. and continues to write his thrice-weekly column for the Cincinnati/Kentucky Post.
Nick and Nina have lived for 30 years in tiny Augusta, Kentucky, 20 miles from where Nick was born.
