George Clooney and Amal Alamuddin Spend Time with Her Mother in Italy

I wonder if her mother will come back to Como when Nick and Nina get there. I also wonder whether her father will show up before the wedding.

Interestingly, US Weekly says both Amal and her mom were photographed at the airport on Sunday (probably that picture in Nicky's post above). So either she just escorted mom to her flight and went back to Como (which, why?), or Amal left too? Short visit if so, but definitely more in keeping with the amount of time off granted to someone who has an actual job.

Dinner for two! George Clooney enjoyed a dinner date with fiancee Amal Alamuddin in Italy on Friday, June 20.

Donning a black suit and white shirt, the handsome actor matched his lawyer love, who wore a chic white shift dress with black heels. The pair, who arrived via boat taxi, looked in love as they held hands and made their way to dinner at hotel Villa D'Este in Cernobbio Village.

The 53-year-old Oscar winner has been taking his bride-to-be on several romantic dates as of late. Just last month, Clooney took Alamuddin to visit Downton Abbey's Highclere Castle in Hampshire, a county outside London.
Clooney also got a chance to bond with his future mother-in-law, Baria Alamuddin.

The 36-year-old lawyer and her mom were photographed at Milano Malpensa Airport on June 22 after reportedly spending the weekend together at Clooney's Lake Como house. 
Clooney proposed to Alamuddin back in April. A source tells Us the noted bachelor would "marry her today if he could, but he wants to give her a dream wedding."

Clooney was previously married to Mad Men actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993. This will be the first marriage for Alamuddin.

Awww...Amal is a mommy's girl. She so happy with her mom next to her.

Its only about a half hour flight London to Milan so very easy to do a quick weekend visit if you need to get back to work on Monday.

I thought it was closer to a couple hours TNMC.  That's still quick enough for a weekend visit.  Does it depend on commercial vs. private?

Yea, I'd like to fly private! But I doubt it's any faster via private jet. Air traffic is going to control how fast you can get there and definitely when you can land!

But even if two hours it's still better than the 14+ hours from Los Angeles to London!

You're in the air about 30 minutes and if you include time waiting to taxi and then get to the gate its about an hour or a little over.  Went to Milan a couple of years ago and it was a very quick flight.  I believe the drive from the airport to Como is about 30 minutes.

Are you kidding? the flight from London to Milan lasts two hours.

That's what it said when I looked up flight times.

A flight from Heathrow to Milan Malpensa is roughly 1hr 40 mins flying time. They add in 15-20 mins, for taxiing/getting to gate. There's another 1hr time change as Milan is an hour ahead of London. Great view across the Alps! The drive from Malpensa up to the Villa D'Este in Cernobbio takes about 40-45 mins. George's house is about another 10mins past that, depending on how fast your driver is and the traffic. Once you get to Como, the streets twist and turn around the lake more so you get slowed down.

Yeah, you can't even get as far as Paris from London in 30 minutes, but even so, it's a short hop for weekend visits.

I'm actually speaking from experience having done the flight a couple of years ago.  Disagree with me if you want but We were only in the air 30- 45 minutes tops, rest of time was getting to the runway for take off and waiting at the gate.

You must have flown via the Concorde or some other spaceship then TNMC.   Sorry, not trying to be an ass, but I was actually speaking from experience too, as I flew over to Milan (both Malpensa and Linate airports) from Heathrow and stayed up in Cernobbio/Bellagio on the lake for the past 8 summers over long weekends. I do recall the pilot on more than one occasion announcing to passengers as the flight started, what the actual flying time would be once we departed from the gate. It was usually somewhere between 1hr 30 - 1 hr 45 mins depending on the weather we were flying through. I think Lela or PAN could verify, but it's no biggie. Hope you had a nice time in Milan and that you got a chance to go up to Como anyway. Beautiful place! Shame that Amal and her mother weren't there for longer, but I guess they'll be back many more times before the summer is through.

OMG Id forgotten how people here like to argue ridiculous stuff!! The point is that regardless of whether the flight is 30 minutes or an hour and 30 minutes, its a hop skip and a jump from London to Milan and people from the Uk often fly over there for a weekend so for those posters that want to come up with some conspiracy about why Amal left so early there's no point in reading anything in to it.

Hell they'll be going there for the rest of George's life.  Unless they divorce.  

Get used to it George, Amal's Mama will probably be visiting frequently!  :-)

The article says Amal's mom left the next day not her. She may still be there. We don't know how long they have been there so it may have been a longer visit than a weekend.

She could still be there, just struck me as odd to make that 45 minute ride to the airport just to drop mom off and turn right around.  I'm certain they didn't drive themselves, so it would have been just as easy to send mom to the airport with the driver if Amal were staying.  Now that I know Milan is between 30 mins to 2 hours from London, it makes sense that she'd come for a few days or a long weekend, then skip back to the UK for work.

It's approx 590  miles from London to Milan, so to get there in 30 mins you would need to be going approx 1180 miles per hour, pretty sure the only passenger plane that could do that would have been Concorde at Mach 2

This is totally inaccurate, but inconsequential due to the French air traffic control strike happening this week (over 5 days).
This will have a back up on all flights; London - Milan, London - Rotterdam, and many many more.  Air traffic has no respect for celebrity, fiance or it's mother in law

Sorry I should have explained better.  With the Libyan elections starting today and the already tumultuous happening in the middle east, not only Iraq and Syria.

An arab speaking member of DSC would be on standby for a quick flight connection to either London or Rotterdam. Throw an air traffic control strike in the mix, and Lake Como is not where you want to base yourself.  
Remember, she is trying to get Mr Senussi, her client out of Libya, he is much hated and stuck in a town descending into turmoil.


I am sure she will want to know what is happening to him.

Now as we have new pics of them I assume Amal didn't bring her mum to the airport I guess she picked her up from the airport as she is still there????

I think in some countries it is different, not everywhere the same. I forgot how it is here (which hand right or left) but I know in Germany you were the ring on the other side compare to the Americans. It is not everywhere the same.

On the other hand (pun intended) I think Joanna got it right. If you look at the other pic of her in that dress the drawstring is on the other side.  So looks like they flipped it. Good gads these people stinks at their jobs!

Just curious: why would she walk with her mouth half open? I saw other people do that but could not understand it. It does not look elegant.

Partially opened mouth ( somewhat seductive), make-up perfectly applied, blow out hair, etc etc etc. Why ?? Because she knows how to work the paps, has been photographed many times ( sexiest barrister blah blah blah) bG ( before George), was probably tutored by Stan, George and possibly Cindy on how to "work it". Ladies- meet the professional ( oh gee, is the press watching me?) poser. Get used to it, it's only going to progress.

Pigpen -You nailed it - Don't know whether she had to be told or if she figured it out for herself. Whichever, she has to know that now she's representing George as much as she is representing herself, and he has a public image to uphold - it's part of his job and, if she doesn't want to make him look bad, now it's part of her job, too.

Having taken another look at these two photos, they aren't attractive, they're irritating. Phony Phony Phony. And I know exactly who is going to challenge me on this!!!
