PICTURE EXCLUSIVE: That kid will go far! Never-before-seen pictures of George Clooney in his first TV role aged 17
He now has an estimated fortune of $220 million and two Oscars under his belt.
But a career as an actor was beckoning George Clooney from an early age as these pictures of his first ever screen role clearly show.
The budding young star, then aged 17, appeared as an extra in 1978 TV miniseries Centennial, which was partly filmed in his hometown of Augusta, Kentucky - and was even joined by his teenage love on set.

He's a star: George Clooney shows off the physique that would one day win her millions of hearts
The NBC miniseries, starring Raymond Burr, followed a group of early US settlers, known as ‘Trappers’ as they explored the new world. It spanned from the mid 1700s to the late 1970s.
It was based on the novel of the same name by James A. Michener and the star-studded cast included Richard Chamberlain, Michael Ansara and Barbara Carrera.
The miniseries was one of the longest - 26½ hours including commercials - and most ambitious television projects ever attempted at the time and had a budget of $25 million at the time.
In another cute snap from the same year, George, now 53, can be seen cuddling up to his sweetheart, Laurie Laycock Bach, whom he took to their high school prom.
While George is best known for his prowess on the basketball court, he was also a keen tennis player as family friend Ronnie French told MailOnline.

Poser: George Clooney always loved being in front of the cameras
'George had sort of a temper when we would play tennis you know. He was just 16, but he broke a few racquets. Broke [my wife] Diana’s one time, her Wilson D-2000. That was back in the 70s.
‘His mom and dad used to have to come and get him from the tennis courts for his supper, he liked playing so much.’
Now engaged to human rights lawyer Amal Alamuddin, who he will marry in Italy in September, George recently met up with his former love Laurie when he returned to Kentucky- and took on her son Brent Bach on the basketball court.
While the youngster admits he’s a good player, both have declined to let on who won their match.
