Steven Soderbergh's Extension 765 site: funny, funny, funny
In the category of "Been There, Done That. Got the T-shirt... If you have not had occasion to peruse, Steven Soderbergh's little sideline into etailing, Extension 765, is smart, smartass-y and very funny. Being an utter devotee of smartass-ery, inside jokage and a fanboi of Soderbegh's from way back, I ordered some T-shirts. In fact, I ordered enough T-shirts to get the secret NSFW T-shirt... which was great for a laugh, but I don't expect to be wearing it to any family functions any time soon...
The communiques from the site are truly laugh-out-loud hy-larious. The latest details how one can get one's hands on Soderbergh's take on vanity productions of alcohol, Singani 63 (named for the year he was born perhaps? I haven't looked up the derivation of the name... yet) with great faux(?) ads featuring the slogan, "This &%#! Will #&%! You Up" is all a tasty sandwich of recommendation, truth and funny, funny, funny on sliced bread.
Great stuff.
Check it out

Though I have no way of knowing for certain sure, I betcha Mr. Clooney approves. It is the sort of thing you like, if you like this sort of thing.

Very clever....I like the graphics and it is pretty funny. Too bad we can't see the photo/art close up. I noticed the one with GC is already sold. Thanks for the find....

Oh man, I've never been a big fan of his films, but in real life he's funny. Thanks for sharing the link Amuserato, well worth a look-see.
BTW - does anyone think he's slightly joshing George's tequila line with his Singani 63 ("made in Bolivia") ads?

Excellent link, PAN
"The supply of 250 cases has dwindled. This is partly due to the personal thirst of the singani kingpin, who last year told a reporter, “Putting me in charge of a hard-liquor importing business is like having Clooney running a girls’ dormitory.”"
Hahahahahaha!

“There were three things: I could drink it on the rocks. It landed me in a place that felt really good and did so in pretty short order, and I also noticed, the next day, I felt fine.”
Maybe it is just me...but isn't that similar to what George said about his product

Re: Steven Soderbergh's Extension 765 site: funny, funny, funny
Thanks for the link, PAN. I had not seen the article. So my surmise about the 63 in "Singani 63" noting his birth year is confirmed! Soderbergh and I were born a few weeks apart in the same year so it stuck in my head that he was born in 1963.
Real or not real is kind of Soderbergh's schtick-- very metafictive and a bit assholish, but funny nonetheless. The liquor seems to be available at the Dream Hotel -- my preferred hotel when I am in NYC! Not planning to be up there anytime soon, but if that changes, I will give the stuff a try and report. Take one for the team, yadda yadda.

Ho! Melbert-- just the sort of ironically funny--and slightly offensive- descrip I would expect regarding a Soderbergh product!
It's me-- Singani is a clear brandy distilled from white grapes grown in high altitude in Bolivia. Here is the official paragraph (wherein I have, parenthetically, added some clarification to wean off some of the hubris):
"Singani (63) is the culmination of a 50-year privately funded project known as the Steven Soderbergh Adventure, the purpose of which is to identify the exceptional in all areas of human endeavor. (singani --no capital "s"), A clear, mixable spirit distilled from the aromatic white Muscat of Alexandria Grape at heights nearing 6,000 ft. Singani 63 was created in the year 1246+284 (around 1530), and is known as the national drink of Bolivia, a moniker that was bestowed with absolutely no interruption in government services."
All reviews are saying singani is a fairly light brandy with floral notes not dissimilar to pisco in Peru... and I loves me a Pisco Sour... so I will have to try it sometime.

@ it's me: no problem!
@ melbert: I certainly, certainly did not mean you were offensive. The description - now edited out - came from the author of the article and, as like, Soderbergh himself. As usual, you were kindness itself answering someone's question.
Please forgive me if there was a misunderstanding!
