Oscar Night
The fevers around the popular Academy Award go to a new round. Christian Bale, Leonardo DiCaprio, Amy Adam, Cate Blanchett – who wins the Oscar in 2014 who becomes the best actor, who the best actress? Which screenplay is the best one? Which film the best one?

Oscars ® in 2014: Jared Leto is nominated
Actor Jared Leto is a hot candidate for the "Oscars 2014". The American is nominated for the very first spot for a golden boy, however, has good chances of the trophy as the best supporting actor in "Dallas Buyers club"

George has NOT been nominated for ANYTHING. So he has no chance of winning an Oscar tomorrow night. He has never gone before when he has NOT been nominated for something. Anyone expecting him there will probably turn blue holding their breath waiting for him. OR, he will be Sandy's date!!!

yes you're right. But let's wait. Perhaps he's gone along with Sandra Bullock as attendant. They're friends, and as Sandra Bullock goes not alone he might be there. And if he can not come to me I'll cook him a genuine Italian espresso. And then we see the Oscar ceremony on together.

Re: Oscar Night
Two Chinese actresses who can vote reveal their Oscar choices, I'm translating them to Eng:
Zhang Ziyi:BP Gravity BD Alfonso LEO+CATE+J.LAW+LETO
Joan Chen:She didn't quite tell which ones she voted, but she likes Her most and doesn't like American Hustle. And she predicts 12 Years A Slave will win BP.Leo has the slightest chance because he's too handsome to win.Cate has 99% chance to win, yet Judi Dench is the most impressive one.
She once said about George after 2010 Oscars:"George Clooney gave his most in-depth performance from Up in the Air, but he's just too goodlooking. Oscar usually won't award the goodlooking guys with Best Actor."
Another fun story: A renowned critic in China, who happens to be a fan of George and Leo and J.Law,says he brainwashed, directly or indirectly, three voters into all voting for J.Law and Leo and Gravity. He even tried to persuade them to nominate George as Best Supporting Actor this year but failed.

THR's Oscar voters' comments about George:
Brutally Honest Oscar Voter Ballot No. 5:[I couldn't vote for [Alfonso] Cuaron because I didn't like the way the big male movie star [a facetious reference to George Clooney] was used -- he seemed like a silly character to me ]
Brutally Honest Oscar Voter Ballot No. 4:[Gravity was pretty much a perfect movie experience. It had really good performances from really good movie stars, it was thrilling and emotional and I cried -- and it was only 90 minutes!]
Brutally Honest Oscar Voter Ballot No. 3:[I mean, she basically didn't make her comeback until she decided that it was time to die and turned off all the knobs, and then old George came bouncing back in -- only it wasn't really George, it was her, because something in the human spirit said, "You can't quit.]

I like Michael Fassbender becasuse he's a half-German and, just like me, a big fan of F1 legend Michael Schumacher who is in coma now for 2 months...#GetwellsoonMichael
I know you guys in America don't watch Formula One...But this year's zero-nominated film Rush is about F1...which I don't like because I don't like Niki Lauda who kinda forced Michael's retirement in a way and other selfish issues...he even attended this year's Golden Globe...He is NOT like the person in the film!
Michael Fassbender has attended many races before just supporting Michael, but the racing Michael didn't even know the acting Michael at first...George does know Michael Fassbender...so he's like a link between my two idols...however I hope Gravity will win over 12 years...while Michael doesn't seem to have a chance of beating Jared.
I don't know what I'm talking about...just ignore me

Re: Oscar Night
My daily venture out on a limb:
Oscar picks. What will win (what I would like to win)
Best picture: 12 Years a Slave (Gravity)
Best Director: Alfonso Cuaron (A. C.)
Lead Actor: Matthew McConaughey (Leonardo DiCaprio)
Supporting Actor: Jared Leto (J.L.)
Lead Actress: Cate Blanchett (Meryl Streep)
Supporting Actress: June Squibb (Sally Hawkins)
Original Screenplay: Nebraska (Her)
Adapted Screenplay: 12 Years a Slave (Philomena)
Documentary Feature: The Act of Killing (20 Feet from Stardom)
Best Animated Feature: Frozen (Despicable Me 2)
Notes:
'Gravity' will probably win every "technical" award it's nominated for, with the possible exception of Sound Editing, which might go to 'All is Lost.'
I would like 'American Hustle' to be completely shut out. I don't get the hype. The performances were good, and the design/costuming was fun, but the story sucks big time. To me, that's not a good movie, good screenplay, or good direction. And none of the actors, though as I said were good, gave better performances than the other nominees in their categories.
I don't really know what I'm talking about. Once it's turned over to the voters, it's a crapshoot. Your guess is as good as mine.

Temp thread do not post
LornaDoone wrote:It's March 1st in Oz so starting the new thread.
To answer amuserato - not in any Oscar pools. Too close to call for Best Picture.
Thanks for bringing my question over, LornaDoone.
Here are my pool pics ( We also handicap winners and losers on who wheres what well-- all of this MUCH more fun than The Final Four bracket!)
Best Picture: 12 Years a Slave
Best Director: Cuaron
(splitting the categories once again as Best Director and Best Picture usually go together)
Best Actress: Cate Blanchett
Best Actor: Mathew McConaughey
Best Supporting Actress: Lupita Nyong'o
Best Supporting Actor: Jared Leto but I absolutely hope it will be Chiwetel Ejiofor.. I would watch him
read the phonebook.
Sound Editing, Sound Mixing, Visual Effects, Film Editing and Score to Gravity
Cinematography to either Gravity or 12 Years a Slave
Costume: American Hustle
Adapted Screenplay: 12 Years a Slave
Production Design: Might go to The Great Gatsby, but I am hoping for Gravity.
Make up: Hoping for Dallas Buyers Club, because Jackass: Bad Grandpa would be weird.
Orig. Screenplay: Her (unfortunately-- anyone who has written in the sci fi genre has done a story like this. I certainly have!)
Animated Feature: probs Frozen (boo on Disney)-- but hoping for The Wind Rises
Animated Short: Get a Horse
Doc Feature: 20 Feet From Stardom -- but wish it was Cutie and the Boxer
Doc Short: The Lady in #6: Music Saved My Life
Foreign Language Film: I liked The Great Beauty from Italy-- but I confess, I have not seen all of them
Live Action Short: hope it is Just Before Losing Everything

The rain is intermittent Joanna but it is colder than normal.
The local ABC station has a doppler radar map of the rain. It updates every few minutes.

Saw August; Osage COunty. Wasn't crazy about the movie as I didn';t need to watch a family constantly bickering for two hours, but I did think that Meryl did a phenomenal job playing her character. I feel that she should get the best actress award.

George was mentioned along with Sandra. The other nominees in this category were great too. The visual effects carried this film over the acting by far and what really made this movie sell. I thought Ellen wasn't so funny and off her game. Overall the show is boring by previous show standards.
