Re: December Chit Chat
Hi everyone
Asking for a favour here: I'm normally open to posting any story about George, no matter how ridiculous, stupid or far fetched it is. However, I've just come across something that's clearly fabricated about George in Thailand and I'm asking you NOT to post it. I assume that if it turned up in my searches, it might turn up in yours too and I think it's too libellous to post here.
Thanks

I think the point is that katie doesn't want it posted and therefore by extension not discussed either as the key word was "libelous."Maggy wrote:Thailand?

So hopefully we can drop it now. Thanks.

Yes huge sea surges expected on the East coast during the night and again tomorrow.Nicky80 wrote:Winter storm "Xaver" just hit Germany. I'm not going anywhere tonight. And this storm stays until tomorrow or so.If you go outside doesn't matter how big you are you will fly away.

Highest sea level for 60 years so evacuations are going on in that area.
From MSN.UK.......
Two people have been killed as fierce winds battered the country.
A man died after he was struck by a falling tree in a park in Retford, Nottinghamshire and a lorry driver was killed when his HGV toppled on to a number of cars in West Lothian, Scotland.
The powerful storm has also led to the evacuation of thousands of families living on the east coast.
More than 10,000 homes in Norfolk, Suffolk and Essex are being evacuated after officials warned that the lives of people in the region could be at risk from the worst coastal tidal surge for over 60 years.
The Environment Agency (EA) has issued a number of severe flood warnings - the highest category, which are only issued when flooding poses a danger to life - to the east coast and north Wales as high tides and strong winds threatened to swamp the coastline.

How to get on with your family by Mariella Frostrup
Happy families with Mariella. Photograph: Karen Robinson
For many, dread, not delight, is the primary emotion sparked by the festive season. "Tis the season to be jolly", allegedly, but it's the conscientious objectors of popular fiction who sum up the reality of this most commercialised of religious festivals. Scrooge feared profligate spending and the Grinch dreaded hammy happiness – both reach epidemic levels at this time. As desperate shops ratchet up the seasonal cheer, the most terrifying threat has to be the invasion of intolerable siblings, meddling mother-in-laws, hysterical children, grumpy parents, ghastly uncles and aunts, feral nieces and nephews.
For most of us it's a holiday experience to endure, not enjoy, but with a few behavioural tweaks you, too, can survive this annual emotional Armageddon. First, reduce exposure – halve the time you spend with family and you can halve the arguments. Even in the most acrimonious of environments it usually takes 12 hours to kick off. Also, spend less. Cut down on the amount you spend on gifts and you'll decrease your resentment levels. Finally, create a diversion – bring a box set in which you can all immerse yourselves when civil conversation becomes a challenge.
I'd also recommend that you stock up on Kalms, the herbal alternative to Class A drugs, and try to remember: these people are only human – even if particularly annoying examples of the species. If all else fails, you could turn to the Bible – in 1 Corinthians 10:12 you'll find good advice: "This, too, will pass."

Re: December Chit Chat
Thanks Joanna for the tips re family.
I always make 2 trips on Christmas Day to hubbys family and to mine. However hubbys family (ie parents) expect us to stay all day. It has been suggested for 17 years now that I should spend Christmas Day with them and see mine on Boxing Day - I have always refused. So comments invariably are made, and you could cut the tension with a knife each and every time I announce we are leaving to go see my family. No support from hubby on that one either as he sides with his Mum. I could solve it and ask both families to my house for the day, but no way in heck am I cooking for over 30 people. Whatever those Kalms are, will locate them in Aus and stock up on them for the day.

Weather here in lala land is raining, pouring rain at the moment and freakin cold for this part of the USA Land.
But not complaining - we need the water and at least it's not snowing. Those in the wintery weather stay safe.

Motorcycle diaries: "Mom no hands!" there was a movie by that name? I´ve never been on a motorcycle but it looks like it has a same feeling to it as riding a horse...in a way.

Re: December Chit Chat
Today both my children had their final reports for the year. The way their school does this is to have the children read from a script they have prepared detailing all their work this year and what their favourite subjects are. My daughter in particular still struggled with reading this year, but Ive seen her ability improving as each month went by. Today though, I was totally blown away by her confidence when presenting all her work and reading from her script, amazing to watch how far she has come. My son is also a superstar (his teachers words). I already knew this and expected he would have a good report, but still very pleased with his teachers comments. He is in grade 2 and reading at a grade 6 level, so his Teacher is very impressed.
So excuse me for being one of those boasting Mums, Im so very proud of both of them.

Thank you, they both love being in the classroom, so hope it stays that way as I think that has a lot to do with how hard they try to learn new things. Taking them out to dinner tonight so no doubt they will pick McDonalds, yuck for me but they will enjoy it.

A little tip about displaying Christmas cards in the home....
I lay all of mine down on top of various items of furniture around the main living room. Not only don't they fall over it....keeps the dusting chore at bay !

That´s a tip
Talking about christmas cards. I´ve been signing and hunting down some addresses... while working. Bad idea. Something that was green 30 min ago is now deep red, approaching it´s 100 day moving avarage. I mean this thing needs a viagra. The stock needs one like right away.
Tomorrow is my last day before long holiday break...

I bought my Xmas cards from a charity in Chelsea this year. Peace & Reconciliation was the cause I chose, which is in aid of charities working in areas of the world torn apart by civil war or ethnic conflict.
There are so many different causes to select to support.
The volunteer gave me this wonderful catalogue with this amazing concept:
http://www.goodgifts.org/how-it-works
There are many brilliant ideas to help others help themselves..
Like
Goats for Peace (eg, in Rwanda)
Gift of Sight
Revive River Jordan
The Donkey-drawn library
Knit for Peace (to keep the elderly working)
Save the Rainforest
Pet Cause for abandoned dogs & cats.
Really inspiring & motivational.
