Piers Morgan Writing Book About CNN Behind-The-Scenes
Posted: 05/22/2013 1:15 pm EDT | Updated: 05/22/2013 2:05 pm EDT
Piers Morgan is writing a book that he says will give a "warts and all" account of life at CNN.
The AP reported that the book is tentatively titled "Shooting Straight: Guns, Gays, God, and George Clooney," and is slated for release in October. The deal was announced by his publisher Gallery, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, on Wednesday.
"There are few jobs more varied, dramatic, or exciting than anchoring a nightly cable news show, so I decided to record it, warts and all, in real time," Morgan said in a statement released by Gallery. "Readers will go on the same journey I did – a pulsating, entertaining, terrifying, emotional and occasionally disastrous roller-coaster. This is 'The Newsroom' on steroids."
The book, according to the statement, will be written in a diary-style format as huge news events unfolded. Morgan has been at CNN since 2011, when he replaced Larry King.
Between the book and hosting "Piers Morgan Live," the CNN host has a lot on his plate. Earlier this month, he signed on to executive produce "Fleet Street," a drama about British tabloids in the 1970s, for Starz.

Re: Piers Morgan writing a book: Shooting Straight: Guns, Gays, God, and George Clooney,
Oh, I like his books. I read his first one about his days as editor of the Mirror and it was fascinating. Yes, he's all about himself but still a good read.

Re: Piers Morgan writing a book: Shooting Straight: Guns, Gays, God, and George Clooney,
I don't mind him writing a book--but to use George's name in the title (presumably based on that one interview) seems a little exploitive to me. Can't he sell it based on his own name?

Yeah, totally agree with u, it's so obvious why George's name is in the title. Also I can't stand Piers Morgan as a substitute for Larry King, he does such a poor job on CNN, i'm horrified sometimes at the standard by which he conducts his show...couldn't they have found anybody better than him to be the host of such an esteemed talk show?

I get so many articles that come in on my George daily up-dates, that trow his name in to use it.

Re: Piers Morgan writing a book: Shooting Straight: Guns, Gays, God, and George Clooney,
Not really an update but it has a few different facts that I didn't know, so many some others didn't know either.
Reuters) - British CNN host Piers Morgan is writing a book about his career, his job as news show anchor and his interviews with Hollywood stars and world leaders, his publisher said on Wednesday.
NEW YORK | Wed May 22, 2013 5:41pm EDT
"Shooting Straight: Guns, Gays, God and George Clooney," to be published in October, will be written in a diary format and delve into the controversy surrounding his gun control campaign and love affair with America.
"Piers Morgan is honest, forthcoming, and fearless. I fully expect 'Shooting Straight' to enlighten some readers and enrage others. Either way, it will be a thought-provoking book that I'm thrilled to publish," Jennifer Bergstrom, vice president and publisher of Gallery Books, an imprint of Simon & Schuster, said in a statement.
Morgan, 48, replaced veteran host Larry King on CNN to host the interview show "Piers Morgan Live" in 2011. After criticizing pro-gun guests on his show following the Newtown, Connecticut killings in December that left 26 dead, including 20 children, more than 48,000 people signed a petition demanding he be deported.
The petition accused Morgan of subverting the Second Amendment of the U.S. Constitution, which guarantees the right to bear arms.
The controversial host started his career in England where, at age 28, he was the youngest editor of a national newspaper, Rupert Murdoch's now defunct News of the World tabloid.
He was fired as editor of England's Daily Mirror in 2004 after the newspaper published false photographs of Iraqi prisoners apparently being abused by British soldiers.
Morgan gained fame in the United States after becoming a judge on Simon Cowell's TV show "America's Got Talent" and as the winner of "The Celebrity Apprentice."
