What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas. That is, until it doesn't.

Just in time for Valentine's Day, Ancestry.com is lifting the veil on who got hitched in the unofficial marriage capital of the world (with 62 marriages per 1,000 residents, it should seriously be official).

Looking back five decades, from 1956 to 2005, they've uncovered some of Hollywood's hottest names who pulled a "Ross and Rachel" in Vegas. Just, hopefully less drunk.

For instance, did you know notorious bachelor George Clooney was once married, over 20 years ago? Way before Elisabetta Canalis and Stacy Keibler, hunky Mr. ER married Talia Balsam in 1989. They made it through three years before calling it quits.

Look, we even have his marriage license as proof!

And hey, if Clooney fell prey, you know none of us are immune.

In 1963, Golden Girl Betty White got hitched to Allen Ludden.
Elvis Presley tied the knot with Priscilla Beaulieu in 1967.
Bette Midler wed Martin Rochus von Haselberg in 1984.
Demi Moore and Bruce Willis left the chapel as husband and wife in 1987.
The same year as Clooney, 1989, Jon Bon Jovi married Dorothea Hurley.
Clint Eastwood smiled for a day, when he married Dina Marie Ruiz in 1996.
Dennis Rodman and Carmen Electra reminded us that being bad can feel so good in 1998.
Evel Knievel took the plunge with Krystal M. Kennedy in 1999.
Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thornton wed in 2000.
2004 saw the 55-hour marriage of Britney Spears and Jason Alexander.

So his friend Thom was his witness. This is something new. Although it amazes me how many forget he was married. I also love how they say he was married for 3 years but in reality it took him over a year and a half to get the divorce.

Look at Kim Kardashian....they keep calling it a 72 day marriage but technically she is still married so it is over a year. thanks for the find!

The story goes, they all rode to Vegas in George's camper, they got married and George played in casinos with the boys. From what I've read(mostly here) it wasn't much of a marriage, George spent more time with the boys than his wife.

Where does this certificate come from and why it was published?

A marriage certificate is a legal document and a matter of public record. Although the couple would get one, there would also be one in the jurisdiction that has legal authority over the marriage.

I guess that explains why that one looks intact?

Fascinating what the Freedom of Information Act can bring us! Who knew it would be useful for pulling George's marriage certificate?

Mine had two witness places on the left side and 2 places where the couple sign showing they both agree to wed. Then the minister at bottom. Of course, mine was done in the State of Michigan.

I LOVE Michigan. Used to take my boys to the dunes all the time when I lived near Chicago.

I had to look on several different websites, so unable to post a link, but the bride and groom-to-be both sign the "application" but only the clergy/pastor/minister signs the actual marraige cert. Bride and groom's signature are not on the actual certificate of marraige

No-one has metioned that George was married by a woman vicar! The official was "Belinda Rhodes", very modern for that era, do you think she was a female Elvis as well?!!
