Kid Rock's 40th birthday actually is not until January 17, but he threw a smashing rock-hard party Saturday at Ford Field in Detroit -- and he invited some special guests.
The Romeo native celebrated on stage with superstar acts including Peter Wolf of J. Geils Band, Sheryl Crow, Martina McBride, Rev. Run of Run DMC, Anita Baker, and Uncle Kracker.
Many fans in he sell-out crowd of 45,000 started partying early Saturday afternoon before heading to the big party at Ford(y) Field in Downtown Detroit. Tickets for the concert actually read, "Guess I'm Frickin' 40!" Only Kid Rock knows why, and he didn't even sing "Only God Knows Why."
Local singer Ty Stone opened for Kid Rock and performed for about 45 minutes to an hour before an intermission.
Then, Kid Rock opened his set with his hit "Cowboy". During "All Summer Long" Rock told fans there was no place on earth he would rather be than here (Detroit) celebrating his birthday. He also said "Thank You" several times (see video below).

After the first few hits, Uncle Kracker joined Kid on stage. A short time later Martina McBride joined him for "Care", and that was just the beginning of surprises.
The first half of the show had a lot of songs off Rock's "Born Free" album, but he didn't hesitate to bring out his glow suit and sing oldies like "Early Mornin' Stoned Pimp."
Throughout the night, a slew of celebrities appeared on the big on stage screens wishing Rock, aka Bob Ritchie, a happy 40th, including Jay Leno & Jimmy Kimmel.

Seated fans jumped up when Peter Wolf of J. Geils Band took the stage and started singing "Centerfold" with Rock and the rest of Ford Field. But the most memorable performance of the night was the duet "Picture" and cover "All Night Long" with Sheryl Crow. She not only sang that song with Kid, but slow danced with him in black leather pants and a black corset top.
Other crowd favorites included Rev. Run's (Run DMC) appearance, and Rock's own hits' like "All Summer Long", "Welcome 2 the Party", and "Bawatiba".
Cindy Crawford and husband Rande Gerber also showed up and sang "Happy Birthday" to the Detroit rocker. Afterwards, a pimped-out Chevy Camaro SS lit up in the center of the floor presented from an onscreen video message (not live) by NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson.
Detroit City Council President Charles Pugh received several boos, but the crowd quieted down when they realized Pugh was presenting Rock with a Spirit of Detroit award. Rock also announced $25,000 in donations to various Metro Detroit charities.
If you missed the concert, check out some clips below. Rock ended the night with a bang, as Anita Baker sang the National Anthem and Rock closed with "Born Free."
Detroit fans seemed pleased with the 3 hour extravaganza, and the Romeo native made sure too, asking over and over, "Are you having fun Detroit?" The usual response: "YEAH!"
