The giant portrait of the American star was found in the parking lot of the Intermarché Réole (Gironde). A work on 8 of 9 meters, achieved with 25,000 capsules.
Everything starts there is one and a half. "I like to collect things I find and recycle them into art," said Axelle Lakli. Attracted by the form "aesthetic" of Nespresso capsules, she began to collect them without having clear idea of what they become. It was during a discussion with his companion that the idea of the portrait of the face of the brand, George Clooney, becomes evident.

Problem: where to find enough empty pods? Initially, the artist creates a look of the actor with the capsules she kept. Without really believing it directly solicits the CEO of Nespresso, Richard Girardeau, Switzerland. It responds quickly, "much faster than what I expected! "She joked. The brand willingly accepts to play the role of patron, and to provide capsules. The marketing department of Paris is contacted, the store of Bordeaux clears.
There then follows a painstaking job: for one year, Axelle Lakli goes twice a week at Nespresso store, during the Quartermaster, to fill casks used capsules. "Mr. Vettorel, the head of the shop, really helped me, leaving me the store available. I had access to their recycling system, and I could move freely, while there were customers inside! "Says she.
Recovered, the capsules are then sorted in the basement of the artist. Only remain black. It will use 25,000 to create his work. Then they are cleaned, one by one, and finally they are dried in the attic. "They had to have some way to dry, so they will not rot. "
At the same time, the artist is working to trace the drawing. From a photo of George Clooney she pixelated, it calculates, measures, and track each of the locations of the capsules, "to the millimeter." Meanwhile, the 24 panels that will support are made entirely by hand: cutting, painting, sanding.
Retrieve and transform
Once the work is completed, where the exhibit? Because with its 9 meter high and about 8 wide, there are few places that can host it ... It's Dezon Philip, director of the Intermarket Réole, which proposes to act as sponsor in the opening doors of his car to the artist. Last Sunday, with Choupi, his companion and the first support, they load two trucks of 20 cubic meters. "We both struggled to install everything! "Jokes Axelle Lakli.
George Clooney is not the idol of Axelle Lakli, but his image allows him to express a message: the finding of a society "increasingly pixelated, where image is king" and a " unbridled consumerism. " However, it does not denounce: "I only see, I am no one to denigrate behavior that I take myself. "
Recovery is the last aspect that comes into account in the project: "With Nespresso, we really do share the idea of things used to recover and give them a second wind. This is what I also enjoyed in this object, "said she.
Now, Axelle Lakli would find a place to exhibit his work, "for it to be seen by all."

===============

Holy F !!! Believe it or not but this is my hometown. I was born there, grew up there, my mum still live there !!!
Now I'm living in Paris, and I didn't know anything about it. Crazy that I've got to join a forum in english with people posting from all over the world to actually get some news from home, LOL And apparently I'm not the only clooney fan from there...
Love you girls, thanks to all who work so hard to find info
Don't know the artist either, but I'll ask my mum (she does ceramics, exhibits and stuff so she might, but she's just coming back from holidays so I don't think she's seen it live, too bad!)
BTW proper name of the city is "La Réole", in the south west of France (around 6000 people). A river, a castle, etc.
small picky, view from my mum's place (OT I know but can't help it).
