What are you watching right now?
I finally watched the Good German this morning. Thought it was good, but ruined for me by my dislike of Tobey Maguire.
Has decided to watch From Dusk til Dawn again to make up for it. It one of my desert Island GC films.
Which would be -
The Ocean's Trilogy
From Dusk Til Dawn
Out Of Sight
The Descendants
The American
Up in the Air
The men who stared at goats
Burn after Reading
Three Kings
Oh Brother, Where are Though
& Intolerable Cruelty
That list probably gives quite an insight into my tastes, movie wise.

A good list though Seth.
May I suggest a balance by absorbing Good Night & Good Luck as
it's a part of 20th century history LOL

Re: What are you watching right now?
Seth, I watched The American last week. Had seen it with my husband when it first came out and he had expected a "thriller/spy/action" movie and he sat thru the whole thing and groused about how bored he was -- I try not to let that ruin a movie for me, but it is VERY difficult. So -- this spring a friend gave me 20 of her fav movies and The American was among them. So beautiful -- I found myself breathing that crisp alpine air -- And the very stillness of the film -- that was incredible. Each moment simply breathing and then feeling the distrust and unsettling -- not fear, but -- yes, fear of what is sure to come. I wonder if my foreknowledge of the ending colored that sense of dread? What did you think of it? T

Did you hate Leatherheads? I thought it was awful. I've liked G's other outings as a director though, including Confessions. I thought Ides had some serious flaws and did not seserve an Oscar (and did not get one), but enjoyed it.

Re: What are you watching right now?
I loved Leatherheads, but I like watching sport.
Also it was great to sit back and relax while watching a George film and not have to concentrate on a multi layered film, as Syriana was before that...... A great film of course.
The one film I couldn't get on with is Intolerable Cruelty.

watched the peacemaker a long time ago (when it came out) - I'd say watchable but not memorable (to me anyway, to each his own). Not that I don't want to watch it again, but I go for the easy road, and just rewatch out of sight and ocean 11 for the umpteenth time...
you should definitly check the O movies (personnaly, I just don't get tired of O11, but don't care for 12 or 13 - though for the more superficial view : I think George looks hotter in 12 ; )
anybody here loves 3 Kings ? with Out of sight, I think they 2 greatly underated movies

Intolerable Cruelty - love it for George's vein and superficial side.
Peacemaker - love it for the story and George's hotness.
3 Kings - love it for George's down n' dirty side.
Out of Sight - love it for the sexy criminal side.
Leatherheads - liked it for George's goofyness.
Ocean's 11,12,13 - loved them - 'nuf said.

Just rewatched Up in the Air for about the 5th time, so love that movie for many reasons. All the Oceans movies were recently on TV here so happily indulged. Want to revisit 3 Kings and Michael Clayton as they are 2 of my all time favourites (besides Dusk)

Re: What are you watching right now?
A little trivia in Radio Times about the film....
"A Dianne Reeves jazz song is played in the film every 23 minutes.
This was the standard running time of a TV show in the 1950's in USA"
Also the band includes some members of George's Aunt Rosemary's original band.
These attentions to detail, and there are many many more,
just go to prove what a great perfectionist our man is regarding his work.

Re: What are you watching right now?
Now why have they never made an Out of Sight II? See Samuel L. Jackson at the end of OOS could have been the beginning of a really cool jail house film -- maybe something out of the Morgan Freeman / Tim Robbins type of film like a Shawshank Redemption.
Film could have started a couple of months after they get to the prison and like the Great Escape they could plan how to get out.
Jennifer Lopez doesn't help them escape but there could have been some dream sequences where they get hot and heavy in her mind or his mind or both their minds.
See I'd go see that film. And of course, somehow Ving Rhames could be involved.
Such and opportunity lost! Oh well!

I got the impression that Jennifer does help him escape; indirectly by waiting for the transport so the Samuel Jackson character could be a part of the ride and whatever happened after that. I agree that it felt like a sequel initializing there.

Yes you are correct. I meant in the sequel she wouldn't directly help him escape like come to see him and then he gets in the back of her car like in the first film. Yes, I realize she didn't help him then he took her hostage but I was thinking in a more direct manner.
I did love it when she hears them start talking in the back about how Samuel's character had escaped from so many prisons and she got that little self-satisfied look on her face.
Oh well, doesn't look like we'll see that film but it's a nice dream! At least for me! HA!

Seth, I have to say that is a good list but you forgot Solaris. Personally my list is built upon Gee's NUDITY!!!!! Solaris, UITA, The American, MWSAG, Burn was naughty!! and then the chuckle factor, IC, OBWAT. But the Peacemaker was good action/love interest film. Some of his cameos are funny too Spy kids, Magic Bubble. Have you seen the Thin Red Line? He's only in the end, but still a good war movie. Of course then there's ER....I need his bedside manners......ahhhh!!!!

I alwasys get George's movies from the public library. I recently saw, "Red Surf." It is a dark movie. George looks scary in that movie. If I had seen him in person back then, I would have been frightened of him.

Naughty girl - naturally my list on not how much of GCs arse you see. I have seen the Thin Red Line, always great to se him, but I thought it a shame that Nick Nolte put in such a good performance all through the film and was lower down the credit list than GC. That said, NNs star has fallen over the years and high credit ranking goes to the biggest stars.
I watched spy kids just for the cameo.
To answer your question, I thought that Solaris was excellent. However, my list was a desert island one - bearing in mind I would be lonely and desparate to get off that island, Solaris wouldn't build the morale too much

In my eyes George gets better looking as he ages. I wasn't impressed with him when he was in his 30's or 20's. But he seems to have attained a sophisticated and mature look about him now.
Nobody jump on me now, I'm not saying he acts mature just that he mastered the look. LOL

Oh... but he must act mature most of the time to be so creative

He's just young at heart IMO, and long may

Re: What are you watching right now?
I finally watched Welcome to Collinwood last night. Brilliant, I haven't laughed so much at a film in ages. Absolute riot from beginning to end. I recored it mainly because of GC, but he ended up being a bonus. Just bought it from Amazon.
GCs parts were hilarious. His unexpected appearance as a wheelchair bound Rabbi in a bad beard was wonderful. The whole cast was top notch.
Working tonight so a nice relaxing couple of hours watching The American will do me today.
