The Canadian Mint is no longer making the Canadian Penny. This is sad.

Canada - no more:

penny for your thoughts

penny saved is a penny earned

see a penny, pick it up, and all day long you'll have good luck

I CAN'T STAND IT. Canadians will now have to say:

nickel for your thought
nickel saved is a nickel earned
see a nickel, pick it up, and all day long you'll have good luck

HATE IT.

how do you pay for something if it ends in something that is an uneven amount?

Most likely they'll round it UP to the nearest nickle!

2 cents down - 3 cents up to the the nickel. needless to say, charities will begin their penny drives in earnest.

start saving your pennies for your grand-children. By the time they've grown up, those pennies will be collector's items and worth more than one cent

that's what I think too. yet the gov't states that there are so many in circ. that it'll be years for value to increase. 2012's are the ones to save if you get some in change - as it's their last year.

Thanks Bamboo, I'll be sure to keep the 2012s! I read an article where they said without the pennies, our pockets will be noticeably lighter. As if pennies compare weight-wise to loonies and toonies!

Welcome about the 2012 penny gov`t saving tip. Makes me wonder what they want all the other pennies for. Wonder if copper is more pure the older they are. Hmm. I`m keeping all I get back in change.
