Daniel Craig, George Clooney, and Matt Damon take the cover of Vanity Fair’s February 2012 issue, on newsstands in New York and Los Angeles on Wednesday (January 4).
The stars of The Descendants, The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and We Bought A Zoo were recognized as Hollywood’s leading men and took part in Vanity Fair’s famed Proust Questionnaire.
“If George Clooney could choose what to come back as, it would be his dog - as the actor states, ‘he lives better.’ The Descendants lead also admits to being displeased with his posture and considers patience the most overrated virtue. Daniel Craig values patience in his friends above all, but doesn’t like his knees, and you’ll never guess what he considers his most treasured possession - but then, we can’t really be sure,” VF teased.

The Proust Smackdown: Clooney vs. Craig vs. Damon!

Photograph by Annie Leibovitz. Styled by Jessica Diehl.
For the first time ever, Vanity Fair pits three of Hollywood’s most fascinating leading men against one another for that signature illuminating interrogation of ours, the Proust Questionnaire—and the monthly back-page feature proves even more revelatory when offered in triplicate, from George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Daniel Craig.
If George Clooney could choose what to come back as, it would be his dog—as the actor states, “he lives better.” The Descendants lead also admits to being displeased with his posture and considers patience the most overrated virtue.
Daniel Craig values patience in his friends above all, but doesn’t like his knees, and you’ll never guess what he considers his most treasured possession—but then, we can’t really be sure. The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo star admits that he lies when answering questionnaires.
Matt Damon, who played a widower twice this year, in Contagion and We Bought a Zoo, is focused on family off the camera—he says that he was happiest in bed making his four children and in the hospital watching them being born. He says that his greatest achievement is his marriage, that his real-life heroes are his parents, and that his favorite names are those of his wife and children.
He and Clooney both wish they could play instruments, while the more practical Craig only wishes he had opposable toes. Find out more in the February issue!

Matt Damon, George Clooney & Daniel Craig Answer Proust Questionnaire With Memorable Answers
[You must be registered and logged in to see this link.]If you look back at the most memorable quotes of 2011, three names consistently pop up: Matt Damon, George Clooney and Daniel Craig. From their takes on politics, personal lives and the grittier side of Hollywood, these three movie stars were unafraid to stray from publicist-approved jargon to say what was really on their mind.
From Damon's criticism of President Obama & "Bourne" screenwriter Tony Gilroy, Craig's bashing of politicians altogether and Clooney's dismissal of a press obsessed with his personal life, they let it fly. That made them perfect candidates to take the Proust Questionnaire, provided by Vanity Fair.
We've got an early copy of the results, and while they say plenty of smart, important and touching things about their families and true selves, we couldn't help but noticing some of their funnier responses. A few of their more serious ones piqued our interest, too. Check out the answers we've selected, and click over to Vanity Fair to learn more. The issue hits news stands in New York and LA on January 4th, and e-Readers on January 10th.
George Clooney:
What do you consider your greatest achievement? Working in the Sudan.
If you could choose what to come back as, what would it be? My dog -- he lives better.
Matt Damon:
When and where were you happiest? In our bed, making our children, and in the hospital watching them being born.
What is your motto? "Don't be a d-bag."
Daniel Craig:
What is your most marked characteristic? My third nipple.
What is the quality you most like in a man? A good mustache.
What is the quality you most like in a woman? A good mustache.
What is your most treasured possession? Apart from my penis and my health? [You must be registered and logged in to see this image.]

George Clooney, Matt Damon & Daniel Craig cover Vanity Fair: who looks worse?
Seriously? I don’t actively dislike any of these men – George Clooney, Daniel Craig and Matt Damon – but I think it’s odd that Vanity Fair has put them on the February cover with the title, “The Leading Men” or whatever. Yes, George has been having a good year, and he’s looking to get nominated for another Oscar for The Descendants. And yes, Daniel has had a big year, although his films haven’t done that well financially. But Matt? I love Matt, but I haven’t seen a new Matt Damon movie in years. If he’s not Jason Bourne, most people don’t care, you know? Plus, this Annie Leibovitz-shot cover is only a good photo of Matt, really. Daniel looks like a gargoyle, and George looks like he’s about to tell me to get off his lawn. Not the best, really.
Another gut reaction – George is 50 years old. Daniel is 43 years old. Matt is 41 (and a boyish vampire). Would VF have put three over-40 actresses on the cover with the title “The Leading Women”?? Of course there’s something to be said for “old faithful” leading men. But 2011 was dominated by actors like Michael Fassbender and Ryan Gosling. Some respect for them? I guess not. Anyway, here’s a little excerpt from VF:
[From Vanity Fair]
So, VF got Daniel, George and Matt together in one place, and they could only give them the Proust questionnaire? I want to know if Daniel kissed up to George. I want to know what stories George told about Matt, and vice versa (because those two are both terrible gossips). I want to know if Daniel dared to talk about politics around either George or Matt. I want to know if Daniel and Matt judge Clooney harshly for his Oscar-Date Barbie. And I’ll never know! Because VF didn’t ask the question.
Oh, and we should play F–k, Marry, Kill with this cover. I would marry Matt, f–k Daniel and kill Clooney.

Vanity Fair blasted out a press release this morning for their new issue featuring, in their words, “three of Hollywood’s most fascinating leading men”, George Clooney, Daniel Craig, and Matt Damon photographed by Annie Leibovitz. You can see all of them at the movies right now. They each submit to the magazine’s Proust Questionnaire. See how great George looks in good lighting?
(Did anyone else wonder if Brad Pitt wasn’t available...or didn’t want to share? Let’s come back to this in a minute.)
These decisions of course are made well in advance, before a clear picture of award season develops. And all three had opportunities. George, as you know, is a frontrunner in the Best Actor race and it’s a good strategy, this. Not only having his face on Vanity Fair during such a high profile month in Hollywood but also being magnanimous enough to split the real estate with two others. But then again, that’s George Clooney, right? Mr (Celebrity) President is friends with everyone. And he needs their vote.
As for Brad...
I don’t think he’s covered VF since they put what he considered to be an unauthorised image of him on their December 2006 edition. Remember? He was so pissed the lawyers were involved. Since then, while Angelina’s made multiple appearances, Brad has abstained...
But this year is his best shot at an Oscar, like, ever. And next month is the all-important Hollywood Issue, timed for release just 3 weeks before the Academy Awards...
Do you think?
What are the chances?
The February 2012 issue of Vanity Fair is available for purchase tomorrow. Here’s the blurb they sent along:
If George Clooney could choose what to come back as, it would be his dog because, as the actor states, “he lives better.” The Descendants lead also admits to being displeased with his posture and considers patience the most overrated virtue. George really makes a good model, over the years I've noticed how well he poses, and how great he looks in clothes. Now if I only knew what he looked like without clothes!
Didn't really care for DC's answers, the ones I read, maybe they need to be read in whole article.
Matt looks good, liked his answers, glad he's got his bald head covered up, IMO bald isn't a good look on him.
But of course GTC stands out, as simply the best of the bunch.

I assume that this shoot is the one that Stacy referred to in her tweet
StacyKeiblerStacy Keibler
Annie Leibovitz I love you! Loved hanging out with you this morning..
19 Nov
Not making it about Stacy but highligting a date when the shoot may have occured. In NY. He had surgery around that time as the Ravens game was two days later and her tweet about elbow surgery stated that the surgery was two days earlier. Shoot in the morning then surgery? If that is the case, he can really go without being seen if that is the case when he wants to - especially in NY when he stays that the same hotel every single time.

What is the trait you most deplore in others?
Criticism
I thought these three were interesting answers. I wonder how he reacts to criticism?

Re: George Clooney, Matt Damon and Daniel Craig on cover of Vanity Fair mag (US)
You know Katie, I was wondering that too. We've seen him react to some situations, but not true criticism that I can recall. On some not so nice reviews, he does seem to just fluff them off like it doesn't bother him. Or did he really want to say "my choice of women" and then thought better of it???!!!!

Nobody knows, It's Me.
An interview for a magazine is like a job interview. You don't want to lie but you also want to make sure that only your best side is presented.

That could also lead him on to the one about lying only when it avoids hurting someone. Not sure I entirely buy that argument, but still.dakota007 wrote:who knows it's me??
