Thanks laetval. George and his potty mouth are back. Opening statement, "There are so many ways to fuck up." Charming!

Yep, if I didn't know about his family background, I would swear that he was raised in the gutter.

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
Yes MM - it must be the "Hollywood" influence. I've been known to drop the F bomb sometimes but only when I'm really angry. He seems to use it as his primary language. Unless he's always ticked off. LOL

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
We come from a different era, cindi. It seems today that the F word is par for the course in conversation. You can't go anyplace public without hearing it in general conversation. It's become an adjective, as well as a verb. An exclamation of surprise, shock, whatever. Why should George be the exception? He basically lives in a "man's world" and this has "always" been a staple among the boys.

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
Yes,you're right patty. Coming from my background, no one in my family uses the F bomb. Although I have a girlfriend who always says f**k me now when she's angry. Whatever that means. I used to always say shit and now say crap. So much more ladylike. lol

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
My 19 yr old Nephew used the F word so much I finally had to sit him down and told him to stop. I said it is a word that can be very offensive to people and when you use it every other word in your sentence, it makes you look uneducated, unrefined, and basically ignorant. He just looked at me....he did however, start using it less.....well, when he is around me.

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
Years ago, if the F-bomb was used, it was almost unthinkable. Now, it seems that people try to make a game of it, like seeing how many times that can use it a sentence.

This is an interesting discussion on the F-bomb. I'm not a prude, I've posted a lot of off-color jokes and innuendos on this forum. I just happen to think that it is the ugliest word in the English language. There are so many replacement words - screw, nail, boink, pork, fork, or as George referred to it as schtucking. Don't know where that came from but I think it's cute. LOL

Maybe a generational thing . . . I use it often and it's not a big deal.

Schtucking is a blended word: "schtup" from the Yiddish, meaning "to have sex," and "F_cking" from the English. Yiddish is a German-Jewish dialect spoken as a universal language among Ashkenazi Jews.

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
Very interesting. So, MM I wonder where George picked up that name. We all know what he wanted to say during that interview with Alexander but thought it might be a little to "crass" for Alexander who seems to have a serious side.

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
Just watched that video interview and enjoyed it and I'm not offended by his language at all.
It's a mature man talking after all.
I've always felt that I'd much rather hear someone say "fuck" or "shit" as an expletive every time, rather than someone saying
any blasphemous words which insult The Lord in any way.
That's something I can't stand at all.

Well, I agree with you there.
G loves that word. A funny thing, I was watching the Michael Clayton DVD with all his character's expletives and didn't realize the backyard microphone was on. Apparently some of them were blasted through the neighborhood and I got some dirty looks from neighbors. Didn't think it was funny then but I do now.

Sad, we were talking about George's use of the F word and I said he didn't want to say that to Alexander Payne.

ahh, ok, thank you for answering. I thought you were talking about the other word: schtucking (?) in context with an AP interview... which I thought I missed.

That's funny cindi. I can just imagine !
You'll have to watch that closely in future. You don't want all your secrets broadcast out to the neighbourhood.

Re: George in the new US Esquire (january 2012)
Is not what you say, but how you say it and where you say that counts.
I drop the F word all the time but in private (when I talk to myself)
to relieve tension and when I tell my partner to go F-off.
IMO, a lady is known by how she conducts her life, not the foul that comes out of her mouth, the foul that is spoken in public is a lack of education and knowledge.

CindiGirl, I got the impression that he "cleaned up" his language for the youngsters up on stage. I recall in a couple of them, he told the girls to cover their ears.

These types of interviews, his films, and last but never least his looks and humor is why I learned how to use a computer, so I could find out more info and follow his career.

WOW One of the best interviews I've read in a long time. I really enjoyed it very much. What he had to say about danger was most interesting. I've seen his satellite project about the Sudan once my life settles a bit I want to attempt to help with it but right now just don't have the time or energy to learn the software skills.
