Truthfully, he's been talking about retiring from acting to be a director for years.

Um, IMHO, he wasn't being totally serious. Its one little sound bite and the reporter is making it into a huge story. Just like "the eyes", this is going to go around the world!

IMHO he wasn't being AT ALL serious - hence the laugh, he's laughing at himself, at getting older.

He loves being the center of attention and the art of acting he is not retiring just yet. It is like Clint Eastwood he keeps saying its his last film and he has a new one coming out.

he likes to joke about getting old all the time , i remember reading in an interview he did this year that he's not retiring anytime soon.

George jokes about it all the time so not anything serious. I think it will be awhile yet. George has a number of projects lined up to keep him busy for a few years at least.

I agree w/dex and dakota, both. George has a innate love of acting and won't stop. He may increase his directorial schedule but will always manage to give acting a go. As he gets older, his parts may change, but he won't stop.
