Praticamente bloccate quasi tutte le arterie del lago. Dopo la Lariana e la Regina, anche la Regina Vecchia, nel Comune di Laglio, è stata interdetta al traffico a causa di una frana che si è riversata sulla strada impedendo il passaggio di qualsiasi mezzo. Di ora in ora la situazione si fa sempre più difficile e sono ormai tantissimi i comuni del Lario interessati dai danni causati dalla terribile ondata di maltempo che non sembra lasciare spazio ad autentiche tregue.
A Carate Urio, invece, è crollato un ponte in frazione Cavadino.

Frane, fango e allagamenti a Brienno e Argegno: chiusa la Statale Regina

Virtually all the arteries of the lake are blocked. After the Lariana and the Regina, even the Old Queen, in the Municipality of Laglio, was banned from traffic due to a landslide that spilled onto the road, preventing the passage of any vehicle. From hour to hour the situation becomes more and more difficult and there are now many municipalities of the Lario affected by the damage caused by the terrible wave of bad weather that does not seem to leave room for real truces.

In Carate Urio, however, a bridge collapsed in the Cavadino district.

Alcune immagini degli allagamenti a Carate Urio sulla vecchia Regina (Guido)

Continua ad essere particolarmente grave la situazione sulla sponda occidentale del lago. Una frana si è staccata dalla località Torriggia ed è precipitata a valle: travolti gli spazi esterni dei ristoranti e sfondato il parapetto a Laglio. Probabilmente sono state danneggiate anche alcune abitazioni: sul posto i Vigili del Fuoco che stanno cercando di capire la situazione. Una persona cardiopatica salvata dai pompieri. Allagamenti si segnalano anche a Carate Urio e Maslianico.

Situazione difficile anche nelle zone alte di Cernobbio con le auto portate via dalla furia dei torrenti.

Si sono registrati crolli e danni, come si può osservare anche nel video qui sotto.

Un’automobile, sulla strada verso la scuola di Campo Solare, sempre a Cernobbio, è stata travolta da un fiume di acqua e fango.

A Lezzeno, in questi minuti i Vigili del fuoco stanno intervenendo per tre smottamenti che sono caduti sulla Statale. Almeno una famiglia evacuata, si sta valutando la situazione.

Considering the steep hills that surround the lake I wonder if landslides aren't fairly common, although certainly not on this scale. One of the earlier photos seemed to show a metal grid apparently keeping loose rock from falling on the road. I guess it doesn't matter where you live. Mother Nature will have her way.

I hope everyone in the area is safe. I guess now would be a good time for G&A to take the kids to France to check out the new house.

Yes, there are safety nets in place, but this has been beyond the usual and it's been concluded by some scientists now that we don't have the thirty years to fix things now. It's less. (Three bonkers thunderstorms here in one afternoon)

Yes, they might already be in France, but the official advice there is to stay put.

If you look at the first picture in Annemarie's post, that is very close to the gates of L'Oleandra

About safety nets: We've got them everywhere to protect roads and houses from falling rocks. They aren't constructed to protect you from a landslide - which wouldn't work because they are fixed on the mountain. So if the mountain starts collapsing or there's an avalanche, safety nets don't really help.

The photos, by the way, remind me of those in West Germany two weeks ago. More than 170 lives are lost, and more than 70 are still missing.

I'm not surprised that he would do this. Fundraising is something he does really well. It doesn't hurt that he has so many rich friends. Many of them have been guests at Villa Oleandra, so maybe it's time they paid a bit for the privilege.
