So, how will Amal Clooney, a co-host of this year's ball, interpret the Catholic-influenced theme in a way that's worthy of the position? Will George Clooney's other half stay true to her sophisticated, luxe and tailored-to-a-tee style. Or will she surprise us, like many stars are prone to do on fashion's biggest night? If we look closer at the humanitarian's past gowns, we can start to identify the common threads that she seemingly always follows. 
For instance, the lawyer almost always wears statement earrings on the carpet. This may be her way to express her fun side beyond the classic gown. The human rights activist also almost always wears a floor-grazing dress to a formal event. And with the occasional shorter hem, she relies on design details that still exude sophistication.

Amal Clooney is a co-chair of tonight’s Met Gala, though just yesterday she was involved in an altogether more intimate celebration: her husband George’s 57th birthday. The couple appeared to be in a party mood at Tribeca hotspot Locanda Verde last night, with the human rights attorney dressed in a flirty romper for the occasion.
Clooney has never been afraid to switch gears in her wardrobe, moving seamlessly between ladylike suiting for the office to more playful leg-baring looks after hours. She raised the bar on the classic romper accessorizing with a waist-cinching belt and neutral tone scrappy sandals. A coordinating gold box clutch finished the look with sophisticated polish.

Typically reserved for the office or school, the checkered pattern isn't always a first choice when it comes to date night attire, but Amal turned that mindset on its head while stepping out for a romantic dinner with George in Rome, Italy on Sunday evening. Wearing plaid Prabal Gurung separates, the human rights lawyer proved gingham can be sexy given the right silhouette.
