Erm, a couple of facts here........

First of all, if you look at all the pix on Getty Images (cannot publish becos of copyright) you will see that there was an official line up of just the stars and many, many pages of photos taken, and they all go and take their place one by one to be introduced to the crowd. And then loads of applause, noise and music.

I have no idea exactly how long this took but it was way way longer than Amal's lone walk some time afterwards........

Julia had a huge number of pix taken, because it's her first time at Cannes and she conspicuously chose to flaunt the Cannes footwear for women rules and walk alone up the red carpet stairs barefoot. Clever girl. Although it's entirely possible any one else who tries it will be not be afforded such status.

It's a great pity that neither Julia's husband or Jodie's wife chose not to escort them on the red carpet (Danny Moder, because, well, he doesn't, altho he's at the back in tux with camera) and Jodie's wife becos - well who knows? Don't know where Dominic West's wife is either......to each their own.

Bear in mind too that the pics we see online and in the papers and magazines are based on what picture editors choose for the click factor and advertising revenue and what sells and keeps the shareholders happy............

I've looked at lots of pictures and some videos of the red carpet walk and I didn't see anyone in the group annoyed, peeved or unhappy with anything. They all looked like they were enjoying the moment and each other's company. So I don't know where the pictures are here that show otherwise.

George wanted Amal with him. For whatever reason. That's between him and his wife. Maybe he gave Jodie a heads up about having Amal join him. Maybe not. He was also producer so he does have some say. The group knows Amal well since she spent time on the movie set last year. Possibly having dinners together. The whole group seemed very friendly with Amal at the event. Julia especially was very close and friendly with Amal.

No media outlet made note of the supposed "inappropriateness" of Amal's presence with the group. Amal got attention because of the dress but Julia got lots of attention and comments about her shoeless walk up the steps on the red carpet. Cannes regulation forbids women from wearing anything less than high heels to their events.

The actors and Jodie Foster have had quite a bit of PR since they arrived at Cannes. Lots of interviews, the photo call. And there was no shortage of attention on the red carpet. For all of them. And Amal would have gotten attention whether she was with the cast or with just George. BTW, George looked so handsome. Best looking man there IMO.

There is no dress code for these events. Amal wore what she wanted to wear as did the other women. Amal's train was a problem. She handled it the best she could and with humor. As did George who tried to help her. No one looked the slightest bit upset about it. And despite the malfunction reported by many media outlets she was still complemented on her beautiful gown and how elegant she looked.

This 12 minute carpet walk IMO is much to do about absolutely nothing.

It looks like it was a wonderful and memorable evening for the cast. For Julia, who was there for the first time, it looked like she was having a blast! I hope the movie does well at the box office. I always wish the best for George.

From the Canne premieres I have seen the dates are on the carpet there is only certain times they are separated, when they pose at the beginning of the event at the top of the stairs and again when they are leaving they pose without dates.
There was also a gentleman there signaling and letting them know where they were to be and which way to face for the pictures. He also signaled when he wanted people on the stairs and in which order. He signaled for Amal to come up the stairs she was at the bottom waiting which is where she was supposed to be at that point.

Amal being on the carpet was fine it is not forbidden for dates to be there if it were she wouldn't have been there.

Kate Capshaw, Spielberg's wife, is an actor who, while she doesn't take roles any more, is very much involved in Hollywood civic and philanthropic efforts, as well as supporting various women filmmakers organizations. In other words, she is in the business.

And while it may not be popular to say in these parts, George is nowhere near the status of Spielberg in producing or directing. Spielberg could walk his dog down the red carpet and not expect to get called on it... if you'll excuse a bit of hyperbole to make a point.

Starting to wonder about any rules in Cannes now to be honest. Blake Lively (an actress of course) seems to have been on every single carpet in a different dress.

Have to say I've no idea which film she's promoting (think it may be Woody Allen's opener and maybe she's in one other) but I have wondered if she was promoting a new maternity wear brand at times....

Mel - Thanks for posting the video. After seeing it I have to wonder what Amal was thinking when she decided to wear that dress. Didn't she walk around in it beforehand? Didn't she consider that she might have problems with a long train with so many people around? Didn't she anticipate what could happen with a waist high slit on a windy day? Personally, I would have asked for a scissors and cut the damn train off!

I hope George sends notes of apology to his co-stars who spent an uncomfortable photo shoot trying not to get tangled in his wife's dress. George Clooney was as “sick as a dog” during the Cannes Film Festival, sources told Page Six, but that didn’t stop him from celebrating “Money Monster.”

After the film’s premiere, Clooney and wife Amal were spotted having dinner at tony Le Michelangelo in Antibes, France, before heading to the Hotel du Cap to hang with “Money Monster” director Jodie Foster and co-star Jack O’Connell.

“The place was hopping, and everybody was coming by to see George,” said a spy, adding that Amal’s been photographed as much as any actor in the film.

“She was in every cast picture — usually they tell the wife to stand aside,” said one Cannes vet. And while Woody Allen was at the center of controversy in Cannes, Steven Spielberg has been the toast of the town for his film “The BFG.”

The director stayed on his boat, sources said, with producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall, who hit town from other hot Hollywood projects. Kennedy arrived from the set of the next “Star Wars,” while Marshall’s in postproduction on “Sully” and “Jason Bourne.”

I don't know how George could have been "sick as a dog". He looked good, and seemed to be totally enjoying himself in all the pics I've seen. And People Magazine reported that he and Amal, and others dined at three different restaurants during their stay in Cannes.

I think George is very proud of his wife and I can imagine he thought she was the most beautiful woman on the red carpet. Regardless of the malfunction she was still one of the best dressed. I doubt seriously he ever advises her on her fashion. That's her business. And he didn't seem the least bit annoyed by having to help his wife. George is pretty easy going and has said in the past he doesn't tell anyone what they should do.

There were a number of beautiful women wearing beautiful gowns on the red carpet. WWHS posted a few. Those were also beautiful gowns but it doesn't take anything away from Amal's appearance.

"Sick as a dog" usually means very sick - like with the flu - usually implies fever, vomiting and feeling really awful. George looked to be in fairly good shape and seemed to be enjoying himself, so maybe "sick-as-a-dog" was a temporary thing like food poisoning or his back acting up again and giving him headaches - with symptoms gone before the red carpet. Either that or he's a much better actor than he's given credit for.

George doesn't care what Amal wears I think like most husbands if she is happy he is fine. I don't see him laughing at her he is not that type of man. He did comment on the gowns train he knew that was going to be hard to handle on the stairs
I liked the gown she looked wonderful in it and I think George was very proud to have her on his arm.

The gentleman who was handling placement on the stairs signaled for Amal to come up you can clearly
see him do so in a video on you tube.

I remember Stacy wearing that at the premier I also remember a few saying how embarrassing that dress was. George's parent's were
there and it was said that poor Nick didn't know where to look.

The movie is doing well and hopefully will be a big hit.
And at the end of the day that is really what matters that people go and see the movie.

Seems like Blake Lively had the most red carpet events. I've seen her in a handful of gowns. She looked beautiful. And I liked that she didn't try to conceal her growing belly. I think it enhanced her beauty.

I believe that Nick had a "where to look" moment with a dress that Stacy wore with a huge plunging to her navel style waiting for her boobs to jump out. Not the dress like Amal's.

I am NO expert in the Husband department, I really don't know.

George's calling card should read Mr Premier-Red-Carpet-Clooney....that is what he excels at....I've witnessed it and it's a kind of magic*.....It saddened me greatly that he ripped up his calling card in Cannes (thanks to Sevens. video above which shows he still knows why God gave him a right hand...press conference only).....
I can't imagine the disappointment of the crowd that gathered...George is famous for his walk about, Jack did it and Dom.....but The Master decided not to play....not fair...DO YOU HEAR ME, NOT FAIR!!!....

Anyhoo you get the picture when it comes to Red Carpet Premiers. The present Mrs C happens to live with an expert par excellence. (with a side order of shiny pretty)...
When George was asked in an interview what the present Mrs C was wearing he answered something with a train and did a choking action, to indicate what he thought....The present Mrs C should have listened....

this photo always upset me. it shows a total lack of respect for his parents, esp his mom. when he saw her in this, his response ( in my opinion) should have been "we're meeting my parents for God's sake! Change NOW!"

George has always been very thoughtful of his fans and goes out of his way to sign autographs at all premieres and awards shows. That he didn't for the Cannes carpet walk is hardly an indictment of George being disrespectful to his fans. I shouldn't even have to mention that he did step away from the group at the top of the steps to go over and wave to some fans. That's not signing autographs but it is still making a conscious effort on his part to recognize the public. IMO a very harsh observation WWHS and as far as "fairness" is concerned I think your observation is quite unfair ... to George.

I don't think he gets involved in what the women he dated as the picture above shows, or what his wife wears. George has said he doesn't care what the women in his life wear .

George warned her about the stairs and she learned the hard way, that is life. I think Amal found the dress
beautiful and wanted to wear it. There have been many women who have worn gowns like that at this event and
they also find out they are a lot to deal with.

Frankly , I wish Julia had worn something other than that black gown it was boring. This was an event she should have turned it up . American women love to wear black it is spring can we please get some color. Black tie does not mean a woman has to wear black.

As for George greeting the fans, Security was extremely tight because of terrorist threats,we have something posted here about the security. He did go when they were on the stairs and wave.

Let me clarify for you all, purely from my own experience, which I know means f.all....but it is a true perspective to me and only me....

I have attended 2 GC premiers I looove the buzz and excitement....getting close is secondary to just being in a group of like minded people...it's hero worship...it's like going to Church on Christmas or The Super Bowl(sp?)...It's out of the ordinary NOT everyday, a memory....A memory of "how close" of "seeing is believing"....

Maybe I'm too childlike for my own good, but I hope when I see a sea of people calling George George, or Georgio, Georgio as in Venice....it validates my belief, the belief that her we have a "Special One"....possibly no more special than Brad Pitt to his fans... but far more special to me....more special than the self important "so called specials" I deal with daily...this is My Special who works in make believe and does it effortlessly, seamlessly and beautifully with art and grace and above all humility....And to top it all he is a nice guy.....I got within a Donkeys screech of him and he was ordinary, vulnerable but still a star....I just wished that all the fans that had gathered in Cannes had had that opportunity ....

We don't know how far they traveled, what planning had to be put in place, how long they stood in That Spot....The Best Spot, just to shake a hand or shout Hello....or just stand and stare and drink it in....

George knows the best spot, as much as I do...FYI it's barrier where the cars pull up, George hops out and straight to the fans, the hard core fans the one's that got there early and bagged their spot....he always comes, he has his own pen, he smiles, he makes light conversation as he moves along....it's his MO.....

He lost his MO... Sad

Security was not the issue Jack did it so did Dom....but The One they all waited for, who ALWAYS does it didn't.....having been THAT fan, the one who waited....I was crest fallen for them...sick as a dog....

The wave from the balcony proves two points....He has IT still....And he was The One...

If you lose IT (the kind of magic)....you will never get IT back....

There might have been a valid reason why George didn't come to greet fans this time. One article says that he was ill. He is a human as well, and I'd think he'd be excused if he once for some reason didn't come to greet fans. He has been really good with fans for decades, I doubt he has changed. So I'm giving him the benefit of the doubt here, and guess that he had a good reason for it.

Thanks PAN and Sevens for the videos. It looks like a really enjoyable evening for all of them. Especially Julia. She couldn't stop smiling the whole time. A great first experience for her. It looks like the film was well received at Cannes too. Nice ovation for the movie and it's stars after the viewing. And the cherry on top having a very respectable box office opening stateside!
Fingers crossed the movie continues to do well.
