Re: L O V E
What is the best/your favorite movie about love that you've seen? (Note: that's kind of a trick question. All movies are about love, of one kind or another. But you know what I mean.)
Mine is Lars and the Real Girl. It is a completely perfect look at just about every significant aspect of human love: romantic, brotherly, self, community. I love it. It's incredibly sweet. If you've never seen it, treat yourself.
I think my next few, in no certain order, would be Love Jones, A Love Song for Bobby Long, Coming Home, and Passion Fish. Yeah, no new ones.

Way2Old - I'm not a big fan of love stories - especially the mushy ones. That being said, one of my all time favorites is "Two for the Road", with Albert Finney and Audrey Hepburn precisely because it doesn't wallow in sentiment but paints a very real picture of a marriage over time. And if you're looking for a really different kind of love story, try "Harold and Maude". I'd love to know what you think of it.

Re: L O V E
I've seen both of those, and while I wouldn't list them among my favorites, I really like them both.
Harold and Maude is surprisingly touching. It gets to you in ways you don't expect going in. Very good 'power of love' story. But, I have to admit, it was kind of unsettling the first time I watched it.
As you can probably tell from my list, I'm not a fan of mushy stories, either.

My absolute favourite is "You've got mail"! It's predictable but so great. And "Something's Gotta Give" as a close second...

Mine would be Romuald et Juliet. Daniel Auteil and Fermine Richard took it to a seriously beautiful place.
So low key, so ordinary, so unsentimental, and yet so touchingly real and extraordinary. And dialogue filled with such real and aching and heartfelt meaning.

I am a big fan of Love Stories and I love the English classics. So I a have long list of favourites.
Jane Eyre ( prefer the miniseries with Tobey Stephens).
Pride and Prejudice (prefer the miniseries with Colin Firth).
Persuasion (prefer the version with Ciaran Hinds).
The Unbearable Lightness of Being.
Salt on our skin.
The Lover.
Passion Fish ( that W2O4D mentioned. Love the music in that film).
The Piano. (Also amazing music).
Brokeback Mountain.
Etc.

Re: L O V E
Did anyone else notice that of all the favorite romantic movies we named, NONE OF THEM ARE GEORGE'S MOVIES?!!!! Shame. shame, shame! What kind of George Clooney fans are we?
What about "One fine Day" (adorable) or "Out of Sight" (super sexy) or "The American" or "Solaris" or .... I could go on and on. Which of George's movies do you think is most romantic or sexy?

Romantic? I'd have to go with Up In the Air.
Sexy would be Michael Clayton or the second Ocean's movie (I think; I really don't remember the movies themselves, but he was especially fine in it).
Both... Out of Sight.

Re: L O V E
I don't think George has really done many romantic films; not what I'd call classic romance, anyway. One Fine Day is probably the last one he did. The rest of his films have (mostly) had a romantic interest, but aren't romantic films as such.
I liked the smart conversations in Out of Sight and even in that dreadful football one set in the 1920s with Renee Zellwegger (a film so bad I've apparently blocked the name of it from my memory, but you know the one I mean) but I don't know that either of them really could be called romance films as such.

Learherheads. Agree Katidot. George doesn't do romantic films. One Fine Day is as close as he gets to romance. I chose ER cause at least there was an on-going romance with Carol Hathaway.
